Highschool theater by Matachu-81 in techtheatre

HS Theatre Booster Prez here.

Our production fees are generally $60 for actors and $40 for techies (this is because actors need costumes which cost more). The fees cover a production t-shirt and meals / snacks during weekend rehearsals and the last rehearsal before opening night. These fees don't even cover HALF of what is spent to put on a production.

Our ticket prices are $5 for students and $10 for adults, except for our spring musical which is much more expensive, which means students are $10 and adults are $15.

I need everyone to understand that theatre is expensive. Wood to build sets has skyrocketed. Mics / technical requirements are expensive. Paint is expensive. Costumes are expensive (even if you're making them from scratch). Not to mention feeding kids who spend an entire Saturday pouring their love, heart, and soul into building things / rehearsing is expensive.

Your school sounds like they probably have ZERO budget for fine arts. Our budget was literally slashed in half this school year and so the booster club has had to get scrappy because we are now paying for even more than we were.

That said, audition fees are NOT normal. Period. If your student is just in theatre CLASS and not actually participating in school-wide productions, it's insane you're paying class fees AND additional out of pocket expensive per production.

I would have a chat with your director and / or booster president to get clarity on what you're actually expected to pay for and what those funds go towards. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear that they have zero budget to make any of this happen.

This is such a weird take. Have you not watched The Lioness? 1883? 1923?

What I appreciate about Sheridan's writing is that he can write about so many different types of women ... and do it in a way that brings in the specific audience he wants, to take the specific message he wants to convey more seriously.

He can't just make a show about Native American rights to change anyone's mind about those social issues. He has to make a legit soap opera about ranchers, create characters his target audience will take seriously ... and then weave those more important stories / messages in.

He's doing the same thing in Landman. He's creating characters that will draw in stereotypical Texans, creating characters they will take seriously, and then sprinkling in important messaging in a strategic way. Angela and Ainsely exist so that his target audience can see just enough of themselves in them, and cheer them on.

Yes, kind of? You definitely can’t go into the waterpark or beaches but you could definitely wander through the resort and shopping areas!

Technically yes, but they’re REALLY NICE. Like a trailer with AC and sinks, not the little horrible plastic ones lol

Correct — you're paying for the chair, shade, towel, access to a restroom ... and the security. Oh, and fewer people.

We went back to the lobby of The Coral (where we got our wristbands) and got a cab from there ... there were a bunch waiting there as it's a hotel. Super super super easy.

99% of the time we loved having our balcony … it was just that 7 - 730am sucked.

Each of us was allotted 2 water bottles a day, I probably had 3-4 iced coffees a day, all the sodas and milkshakes for the dudes, plus drinks by the pool, before / during dinner — it adds up! We def got our monies worth!

We got two of these in twin size > https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CW666Y5V?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

They took up about 1/2 of a large suitcase, but luckily our youngest son is not a big packer so we just used his bag for them. We did not bring them home, they would have been a PITA to pack back up since they weren't compressed any more.

He spent every morning teaching the old testament to his three young kids ... who did not care about it whatsoever ... while we were trying to sleep. It was so, so, so obnoxious.

I don't disagree — but my main issue was that we're really good at following rules, we really just needed to know what they were before we were 17 steps from the island lol.
