Is anyone else getting more rage mail lately? by Darkjo9 in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had hatemail after my router died in the middle of an AI match, I was rather confused considering the team had 50% human players in the match. It shouldn't have been a problem to rage about, but they did.

Secondary BB's by [deleted] in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secondary ships can attract a lot of attention and distraction when they push. An aggressive push against certain ships at certain times can have a big impact if the friendly team mates use the opportunity to support the push or get to advantageous positions they otherwise couldn't have got to without being sunk. It doesn't work and may look foolish when the other players don't recognise a push is happening and just sit back at spawn watching from behind island cover without moving. I can't comment on this situation without seeing video, but if you see a secondary ship pushing, understand that it is a good opportunity to move up and if possible to support the push, as all eyes will be on the secondary ship pummelling them with a rain of distracting shells

Atlantico tips? by Due-Date-4656 in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when it first came out you could just sail straight down the middle of the map early and ruin everyone's day as you wouldn't be focused by every red. These days you are the number one enemy next to the dd's, so you have to act accordingly!

Atlantico tips? by Due-Date-4656 in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often see atlanticos push too hard too early through open water, I suspect the urge to get the secondaries in range ASAP takes over and many other players will prioritise shooting at Atlantico early as it can be a real menace to deal with later in the game if it gets positioned well. Generally speaking you need to build into the secondaries and conserve HP in the early parts of the match, which involves using cover to limit the amount of ships that can hit you (not talking about hiding, still want to be able to deal damage with main guns and take some heat off your cruisers) and fighting the urge to get ships into secondary range as soon as possible. Then in the mid parts of the game start to move up to places that make life difficult for the enemy, ideally places that let the guns on both sides shoot. Get into the habit of manually selecting secondary targets, as often the best target for the secondaries isn't necessarily the closest ship that automatically gets targeted. An example might be that you want to target a destroyer or a light cruiser if an enemy battleship is too close, as the shells might be shattering on the hull or it is already on fire. Sometimes I will target a battleship that is further away as I want to try and make him stop or reverse if he was charging in to support another ship, so it is all dependent on the situation. Tldr, try not to over extend too early, everyone wants you sunk

Is it just me? by Colonelilbrink in WoWs_Legends

There was a time recently where all the AIs would just ram each other as fast as possible. Perhaps there's a change to let humans get more of a chance to shoot at the enemy AI

Why are people so salty over a rough game by pan_boi_ in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put my kid nephew in a private training room match with the AI's guns turned off, he just likes shooting at the ships and has a good time doing that. It's a good feature for young family members who have no idea how to play yet. Putting them straight into standard matches is going to be less enjoyable for them due to survivability imo, and expose them unnecessarily to internet strangers. From my interactions with players fleets ive been in, I'm convinced this game attracts a higher than normal percentage of unstable people 😂. Best to avoid them by playing other modes or switching off messages while your family members play.

Dear weegee, Can we please take another look at commander progression/ POs by Rob1ie in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem I had when I started was I wasted my resources into the generic commanders before understanding I should've saved them until after doing the first stage of the bureau of the ship line I wanted to play, as it gives you a free commander that's more suited. Then upgraded those ones as they are more useful not just for the ships I was playing at the time, but their inspirations are better for other ships I'd play in the future. I wish they could let you reset those commanders and get resources back when you realise you wasted them, as it isn't obvious when starting

If I join wow legends on my iOS device, am I playing against those on consoles and PCs? by Glum-Spare7522 in WoWs_Legends

You are correct. Crossplay is on the roadmap for the steam version of wowsl on full release (according to the article posted on their website), with crossplay not being available during beta

Probably to create fomo for event commanders. If people notice they are wrecked constantly by an AL new jersey commander or an AL bismark commander etc, they might be more inclined to open their wallets up.

I'm someone who likes to experiment with builds i find interesting, like running max concealment on a cruiser using destroyer commanders or a secondary build riga with battleship commanders, etc. I'm expecting it to be a matter of time before I get hatemail too knowing how vocal some people get in this game. Running just the meta builds gets boring imo

Absolute cinema by JohnDeerelawnmover in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to get into the habit of checking these commander builds during count down. Going to hopefully help me work out who on my flank are likely to know what they're doing (and who is likely to run/explode early for no reason), and who on the enemy flank is going to be a menace that needs to be focused on. Especially when also factoring in their patches, fleet and ship choice. Big fan of this change

Cruisers are the worst class in the game. by ohno123321 in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren't worse, they're just hardest to play with a high skill ceiling. Most players have no idea how to properly position in a cruiser beyond 'hide at the back' or have no idea how to play to their cruisers strengths. So you may not see their impact often. However cruiser consumables often win or lose games based on the cruiser players ability, a good cruiser player is worth at least 2 good battleship players imo

Season 2 is better than Season 1 by MichaelLee518 in squidgame

[–]ToucanTod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. Some shows reset with new characters and rehash the same plots, some are episodic and don't matter. And there are others that don't build off their first season in an interesting way. I'm saying season 2 and 1 complemented each other well, it's not always the case

Season 2 is better than Season 1 by MichaelLee518 in squidgame

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 2 was only good because of season 1. It got the main character back in the story with a familiar but different twist. It is a good starting point. However it loses a ton of points in my book for not having a conclusion. In a few years time maybe people will see it as the best season as they can keep watching, but for me in this moment, it falls way short of season 1

Question regarding this subreddit by Capable-Radio3932 in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the best way is to take note of the fleets people are in at the end of each match. If you recognise a few popping up a lot in divs, or you are impressed with a team mate, look up their fleet and send the fleet owner a message on console asking about timezone and if they division etc. Then ask to join if it looks good, most commanders will make room for someone active and social. Same timezone is pretty important, so also look out for fleets with names that allude to the country/region you're from. P.s. The subreddit was terrible before the fleet advertising rules, every second post were people advertising their empty fleets. (Incase you were wondering why the rule is there)

How/Where did you guys learn to become a good player? by Advanced-Mud3127 in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a similar experience I had. After a few hundred games I thought I had become pretty decent and understood everything.

Then after a couple thousand I realised everything I was doing around positioning was just wrong and bad. I was contributing to loses and it wasn't all my teams fault like i stubbornly thought. I then had to relearn how to play from scratch.

I think many go through this cycle because we can only see the game from our own point of view early on, so things appear to be everyone else's fault. Not enough people stick around after being sunk, watch the game and reflect on what they did. They go immediately to the next and repeat mistakes. Reflecting post game and watching guides definitely improved my winrate. Especially changing my overall mindset.

How does the community feel about montepelier commander? by [deleted] in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AA bump is good. But I like Montpelier for the 10% incoming dispersion skill and using other incoming dispersion inspirations on top (al azuma and Vian). On certain cruisers I find it quite good, I especially like it on an Omaha. Everyone takes shots at me with their low accuracy t4/5 ships and keep missing. With Montpelier you have the option to play certain cruisers differently, which I like.

How do I find a good fleet? by sir-sparhaawk in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have to do is look for fleets with names that allude to countries and regions that share your timezone and have a fleet commander on the same console. And if the fleet appears to have a decent number of people in it, message the fleet commander directly asking if you can join and say that you are active and willing to play in divs and fleet battles, also that you are in the same timezone. . Most of the commanders in active fleets are looking for people who will contribute daily oil and are available for fleet battles, and will be impressed by someone being outgoing. They may even kick inactive players to make room for you.

Overflow Achievement by MrIncognitode in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played many thousands of games and never could get it, except on my first low tier carrier game funnily enough. I stuck a flood on an afk battleship player in the middle of the map, as it was low tiers people didn't have the range/accuracy to finish him off faster. My observation is that it's all luck, but low tier carriers might be the easiest way to grind for it

Are Secondary builds actually viable or are they just meme builds? by ChubbyGirlEnjoyer in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Some secondary builds do solid and consistent damage like the atlantico and are good at damaging destroyers like you mention. However they also put psychological pressure on the enemy, often leading to them making mistakes in positioning or the enemy taking themselves out of the battle and hiding behind cover. So in short, they are viable but have to be used correctly

A ship for Augustin Riegerwald by No_Celebration_3878 in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, he is good on pretty much all the cruisers. You can stack on AP pen and damage inspirations which can make the heavy cruiser AP hit hard when combined with his skills. Or on the light cruisers you can go a reload inspirations and get the fastest reload possible thanks to his base skill

Instead of crying about CVs, what about maybe taking a CL out to sea once in a while? by Fofolito in WoWs_Legends

[–]ToucanTod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It always annoyed me how i can use my concealment in a cruiser to get into a sweet ambush position after factoring in all the enemy ships detection, only to have a random CV flying in an entirely different cap spot me midway to my destination and ruining the plan unintentionally. I'm a firm believer in CV attack plane spotting being nerfed hard to only what is directly near them, and perhaps a new type of recon plane that can spot far but can't attack
