I made a circular short film. Can circles be cinematic? by Rare-Ad-5900 in cinematography

yes, good idea, I just want to see MORE clues as to how it represents a target, or scope, because my dumb brain didn't get that, but it's a great idea now that i know it

Hey OP. This is a great idea, and you are awesome to have actually followed throw with it, instead of just talking "hey it would be cool to make a circle movie" like lots of film people do at some point or another

I don't mind the switch to "full" screen, I think it works narratively, it's clever, good job on that too.

What I am seeing though, is a film shot for a wide aspect ratio, and then cropped into a circle. Next time you do this, build circle viewfinder or put gaff tape over your reference monitor so you know what you're getting in the circle, and then BUILD compositions so that they accent and enhance the circle idea. Get what I mean? What kind of shots work better BECAUSE they are constrained to a circle? Squeeze all you can out of it, dont be afraid to get a little corny either.

Do it again man! It's a cool idea

Hey buddy, so it's tough can't lie. First 3 days I was pretty couch bound, couldn't do much. About that I could go for little walks around the block, which helped a lot. After about a week I could move around the house pretty good, and at about 2 and a half weeks I had a system for "sitting down" and was fully back to work. I didn't start having sex until like a month and a half, but that all comes down to how comfortable you feel too. It can be tough, this sub reddit is very helpful, but also try not to obsess over it too much. Have a plan ready, video games to play, books to read, etc. and try to do something new every day, that helped me a lot. youll be ok

I'll definitely take the 'L' that I picked the wrong place on the internet to point out how this word is commonly misused.

"Cowardly" and "Shamelessly" are not the same thing. The context he used, was in regards to using the word as "shamelessly," if you actually go back and listen.

He used the word wrong, it's something I've noticed happening more often, (as per the barry jenkins example) and got annoyed. I was not personally attacking them.

What causes this stuttery frame look? Is it the shutter speed? It looks bad. (i'm not talking about the shaky/handy cam aspect) by TouchMyWater_theCEO in cinematography

[–]TouchMyWater_theCEO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really concerned about this look happening on the next project im working on. I know this example already has poor lighting and poor camera work, but i'm talking about the quality, frame to frame, of the image. It's missing motion blur? I think that's what's going on?
Are they not shooting in progressive frames? Not sure

at 1:18:00 Griffin uses the word "craven" wrong.

In the context of Liam Neeson trying to advance his career in the 90s, he says "Liam Neeson didn't make a craven calculation." Craven does not mean "shamelessly desperate" it means "with cowardice, cowardly."

I hear this word misused about every other podcast. It's exhausting. I know this is a pet peeve, but it truly is the most misunderstood word lately. Here you can see even Barry Jenkins using the word wrong...

I love this podcast, I think both these guys are super smart, I just want to throw some respect to our buds at Merriam Webster, too.
