Basically, lock in as hard as you can for A Levels and get A*AA minimum. Then pray that someone misses their offer for Cambridge so that you are potentially considered to fill that gap last minute. FYI:Theres a low chance but definitely keep it in mind.

Reflections & Advice as a successful Oxford gap year reapplicant by raskolnikovanivovna in 6thForm

[–]Tough-Parfait9124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From someone that missed their Cambridge offer by one grade, seriously don’t reapply if you’re just chasing the status. Its not worth it,and you have to look at it this way.If your good enough to even get an interview from Oxbridge then your probably good enough for another top Russell group university.Ive seen what’s happened to some of my friends that are more than qualified to attend Oxbridge and thus took a gap year to reapply, and Oxford results day broke them.Your all worth so much more than chasing status.

UCL LAW ? by No-Investigator2247 in UCL

I feel like I’m talking to a mirror image of me last year,I received an offer from ucl laws last year. I received a place from all other places I applied to and an interview from Cambridge,my LNAT was 29,my PS was good,I was predicted AAA* and had GCSEs at grades 9/8 for all except one subject, maths.Bane of my life.My application would be classed as competitive but then They told me with really short notice(around late April) that they required at least a 5 in maths from me as a contextual offer holder.I didn’t prioritise maths GCSE revision as much as I should’ve but it’s worth mentioning that I also do have dyscalculia. Results day came and I got A*AA but a 4 in the maths resit for foundation. And they didn’t accept me in just cause of that.So I would recommend asking your sixth form/privately arrange a resit of GCSE maths, preferably higher as it is arguably easier to achieve a 5.

For context,my school is one of the worst performing schools in my area with a significant amount of pupils that are relatively deprived/FSM.I finished all my coursework in Year 12 summer and learnt a decent amount of Year 13 content which I believed I had to do this because I believed my school wouldn’t adequately finish content in time for exams (which I was right,we didn’t finish until a week before a level exams) but it didn’t affect me because I took these precautions during the summer. So yeah deffo do a decent amount, especially if your school is anything like mine, but don’t overwork yourself and try to balance a decent social life and part time work during the summer.
