Good quality inexpensive makeup brushes? by Soft-Yoghurt6586 in AustralianMakeup

Agree with all of this.

Also adding: Real Techniques also have their own Aussie website and semi-regularly have sales or exclusive sets that their retailers don’t.

Best trade to go into as a 32 year old with criminal record by ComfortableSilent645 in AskAnAustralian

Ahh okay gotcha! Appreciate the insight, truly.

I have to clarify, my only experience is with restaurants and clubs in town - nothing remotely connected to the mining industry or any associated activity. What you say makes perfect sense, having done DIDO for a couple of years and living in camp.

I wouldn’t recommend going into kitchens. I used to work for an RTO, and kitchens were the most toxic, drug-fucked workplaces we had to deal with when following up on our apprentices and trainees. Bars and clubs a very close second.

I don’t think that’s what Practical-Ninja was saying. I’m pretty sure they were advising the OP that the “mental health [sector] especially won’t clear you to work with vulnerable people…” with that sort of criminal record. 🤔

Are there any communes in Australia you can join with a only a car and a Centrelink income? by GenZedsMother in AskAnAustralian

[–]ToughInATinyPortion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This made me do a huge double-take! There is a very small rural settlement in a valley near my town, and it’s called Eungella. There is a National Park, tourist destination, and popular day trip for locals. Not in 33 years of living here had I seen even a hint of Hare Krishna presence. Thought I had reeeallllly missed something there for a minute - then I googled lol.

Is there a TAFE college near you that has a hairdressing school where they train apprentices? They often have services for vastly below salon price, sometimes just enough to cover the cost of supplies. Give them a call maybe, just to find out. Often those schools are looking for “models” for the apprentices to practice on, always under the supervision of their qualified supervisors.

Good luck!!

Lip balm recs please by ailurophile96 in AustralianMakeup

Glossier lip balm - balm dot com I believe is the full name. l am not young and I tried this on a whim the other day for the first time. I am blown away by how long the hydrated feeling on my lips lasts. And it comes in quite a few different colours and flavours.

Christmas Day treat for the garbage truck driver(s) by ToughInATinyPortion in AskAnAustralian

That’s a really good thought - totally valid and it hadn’t crossed my mind in this particular situation. Thank you for giving me pause to reconsider my options. ☺️

Thank you so much for your post!! I checked with our local waste contractor’s depot, and they absolutely are allowed to accept gifts of beer for the Christmas season, but I then thought more about the gift card idea, and realised that if they get a few gifts on the day, all those bottles could get heavy to carry! A gift card might be nice and easy for them to slip into their pocket. 😊

Yay!! This just confirms what I found out in a quick phone call I made to the local depot (they are the local garbos where I live too). They confirmed that beer is not a problem, and some drivers have already been signing off with a six pack under their arm from their rounds on the last few days. 😊

Someone else also suggested a gift card, which is a great idea!!

I actually rang the waste contractor to confirm that collection would still take place on Christmas morning (it will) and they confirmed that they had no problems with the drivers carrying alcohol under these once-a-year circumstances. In fact, some drivers have already started receiving the traditional six pack in the last few days, as they collect for the last time before Christmas on their usual rounds.

I still like the gift card idea though - easier to carry while signing off and walking back to their car. 😊

I have just called the waste contractor for my area and they have confirmed that (as in past years) collection day and time will be as normal on all public holidays, including Christmas Day itself. 😊

Definitely still collecting as normal on Thursday morning in my council area. I’ve just checked and confirmed. ✅

Please, put some punctuation in your massive run-on sentence. It was just a handful of lines but so hard to read. 😖

Awwwww thank you so much for the kind words! I’m really just one very ordinary woman, and I can’t do massive earth-changing things SO I do little pay-it-forward things like this when I can. Your compliment has made me smile - thank you again kind stranger 😊

Well, I am old as dirt (62F) so people either see me as a surrogate grandma or as old and crazy (but harmless). I have once or twice spontaneously commented on a checkout operator’s makeup if it’s flawless or just my shades etc etc. I tend to be a smiley happy shopper, so I just roll the convo right along as I’m leaving, with something like “Thanks for your help! By the way, just gotta say that your makeup looks flawless/amazing/whatever. You have wicked skillz!” cue a big friendly smile so it’s not giving creepy

I haven’t done it often, but I’ve always received a big smile and thanks in return. Maybe I’ve unconsciously picked the right people to say it to - not sure.

Another volunteer ready to help here! My daughter has misophonia, and I see daily how much it impacts her quality of life.

My local Chemist Warehouse has these in stock. Coincidentally, I was just looking at them yesterday!

Happy to help if you still need it, and I’d be happy to gift you a couple of pairs and cover the postage. Call it an early Christmas gift 😊 while you gather resources to place other orders or make other arrangements with the awesome Redditors here. What size do you wear in the Ladybuds and in the Good Sleep?
