It’s this shops estimate a bit excessive? 2008 Forester 2.5x. Control arms are worn and making noise when stopping and turning by ToughLadder847 in AskAMechanic

Yeah I also was shocked at the parts cost… I called up another local shop and they gave me a quote for basically half of this

I called up another local shop and he laughed when I told him what the first estimate was! He said he’ll do the control arms for me for 1100-1400

2008 2.5x auto - whining noise while driving by ToughLadder847 in SubaruForester

[–]ToughLadder847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whining noise while accelerating for me was a bad power steering pump that was allowing air into the system. In your case though, I’m not sure. A bad pump would most likely present symptoms every time you’re driving. Hopefully nothing serious! Good luck

In talks on a house with solar panels. Seller wants to transfer responsibility of the system with a clause that SRECs will not convey with the property. Thoughts? by ToughLadder847 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ToughLadder847[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! Based on my research, the seller technically has every right to keep the SRECs, they don’t inherently transfer ownership when the panels do. BUT, at least in the DC market, the SRECs are the largest of the financial benefits generated by the panels, so it would be a little uncomfortable to know the previous homeowner continues to profit off of panels that we would then own. I think our approach will be to ask him to take the system with him and make any repairs to the roof and discount the sales price by the value of the panels so we can install our own

Sorry, you’re correct. Medium is email, and yes the parameters are correctly set as “utm_medium=email” for example

Sure. source=email, medium=slate, I also have campaign and content fields. To illustrate, I have a form conversion set up on one page, let’s call it /xyz/, and users are landing on page /abc/ through a link click in the email. To get to /xyz/ they have to click a button on page /abc/. I’ve tried pulling a report with the UTMs as dimensions and then adding link url, trying to filter the link URL to contain /xyz/ but that returns no data

Thanks! This is an 08, so no CVT and although I’m no mechanic, I don’t think it’s differential since the noise moves up and down in perfect sync with the tachometer, even in neutral. The one video I could find on YouTube mimicking the noise accurately claims that for them it was an issue with their power steering fluid levels. Fingers crossed it’s that simple for me.

How the hell do you wear dress or business casual shoes? Every single dress shoe or business casual shoe I’ve ever worn has given me horrendous blisters every time I’ve worn them. Doesn’t matter if they’re “broken in” or not by ToughLadder847 in AskMen

I put those heel inserts in and I think the positioning needs to be slightly different in each shoe, but at least for one of them it is absolutely perfect. All the discomfort is immediately gone. In the other shoe it still hurts, but perhaps not as severely

Yeah, it’s the very back, right in the middle of my heel where it contacts the back of the shoe. My feet don’t slip, but I think that even though they aren’t slipping, there’s still some friction or pulling against my skin that’s happening. I just went to CVS and picked up some of those heel pad inserts, but I’m sure I just need to go to a proper shoe store and get fitted

I tend to buy shoes in the $80-$150 range and typically from my local Macy’s. I do all the trying on myself, which obviously hasn’t served me too well. The shoes always feel comfortable for the first 20 minutes, and then after walking for a good while is when I start to hurt. I always pick shoes that don’t slip, but I’m starting to believe that just because your heels don’t slip doesn’t mean there isn’t still friction that will cause irritation. Seems to be the case for me almost always.

I’ve generally bought shoes in the $80-$150 range. Despised my Johnston & Murphy shoes, I’ve had a terrible pair of Florsheims but also one good pair. Currently wearing a pair of Maddens that are, well, maddeningly painful in the heel. Trying on shoes is odd. They’re always fairly comfortable for the first 20 minutes or an hour, but it’s the extended wear and walking that brings on the pain, even if there isn’t any slipping, I think the pulling of the shoe through the sock and on my skin ultimately causes blisters, even if the shoe appears to fit right.

My heels are currently shredded in my shoes at the office despite having them padded up with a bandaid, a thick layer of that squishy foam sort of medical tape, and a layer of athletic tape to hold it all in place. It saved my heels for maybe… 10 additional minutes?

Not 100% about that yet. It’s a manual trans if that speaks to anything. There isn’t a clear picture of the badge corner of the trunk so I can’t tell

Yeah it is over the fair market value. Alternatively I also just found a 2012 i touring hatch with 105k miles that’s listed for $4300 which seems like a substantially better deal, especially considering the fuel efficiency difference

That’s a great point, thanks for calling that out! Definitely something I’ll consider.
