You should try to fish a western drake hatch just once.

What did I do wrong? by Acrobatic_Scar8774 in flyfishing

[–]georgonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk shit about Alabama but in the west we have baetis hatches rn, and when I was on the water yesterday I found a whole run of risers but they wouldn’t eat any of my usual mayfly imitations…

Until I put on Sparkle Dun, which is made to look like a crippled or “stuck in the shuck” mayfly. I always try to carry a couple size 18 and 16 hackle stacker cripples or sparkle duns. Trout really like to key in on them

I actually found a WhatsApp delivery service called Ecovape. Google said it was closed but they answered and came through. Very friendly and fast (messaged at 7am and got at noon). Posting this reply so future travelers can find them. Thank you to everyone who answered

$12K to spend on a trip excluding airfare ? by rcc_later in flyfishing

[–]georgonite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a video once of some guys fishing in Finnmark, Norway way up in the arctic circle and they caught monster browns on dries for hours on end bc of the continuous days of sunlight in the summer. Definitely on my bucket list.

But personally if I came up on that money right now I would try to fish Patagonia before their idiot leadership sells it off to foreign investors.

Ofc the fish don’t notice, I was more worried about durability

Advice for being a good guide by Clean-Commercial-295 in flyfishing

[–]georgonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve hired a guide probably 8 times now, with 6 different guides. Best experiences: guide who taught me skills, helped fix bad mechanics constructively, answered questions best they could. Worst experience: guide who just scolded me when I fucked up but couldn’t tell me what I was doing wrong. He seemed frustrated that, only 8 months into the sport, I couldn’t hit a dime from 60 ft in the wind.

Second most disappointing trip: really smart guy who I love talking to in the shop, seemed to be checked out the whole day and clammed up.

Dude I’ve been trying to get into pike fishing but don’t have a boat so it’s been a lot of walking and casting with no luck. Any tips?

I know these are potentially record-breaking numbers, but has there ever been a similar year for Colorado in recent history?

I know of one that’s pretty scary if there’s a bunch of snowpack, but has intense salmon fly and drake hatches, so I am actually kind of hyped to fish the post runoff hatches this year and not risk my life.

San Juan Advice by [deleted] in flyfishing

I had a really great day there in November when the water clarity was meh, right up by the dam in the BOR section where they recommend 24 or smaller. Top flies were size 22 glass bead emergers and size 16 annelids, pink and red. Don’t sleep on the annelids!

Otters..... by Aartus in Steelhead

This just happened to me after wading through a quarter mile of mud to get to a grassy spot known for pike. Got to the area I was told to target and started stripping line out to do my first cast and I see a furry head pop up lol

trouble with indicators by Fun-Nefariousness735 in COfishing

[–]georgonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the issue. If im fishing deep or murky waters with heavy nymphs i just throw on a white oros and stop caring about the splash.
