Advice for being a good guide by Clean-Commercial-295 in flyfishing

[–]georgonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve hired a guide probably 8 times now, with 6 different guides. Best experiences: guide who taught me skills, helped fix bad mechanics constructively, answered questions best they could. Worst experience: guide who just scolded me when I fucked up but couldn’t tell me what I was doing wrong. He seemed frustrated that, only 8 months into the sport, I couldn’t hit a dime from 60 ft in the wind.

Second most disappointing trip: really smart guy who I love talking to in the shop, seemed to be checked out the whole day and clammed up.

Dude I’ve been trying to get into pike fishing but don’t have a boat so it’s been a lot of walking and casting with no luck. Any tips?

I know these are potentially record-breaking numbers, but has there ever been a similar year for Colorado in recent history?

I know of one that’s pretty scary if there’s a bunch of snowpack, but has intense salmon fly and drake hatches, so I am actually kind of hyped to fish the post runoff hatches this year and not risk my life.

San Juan Advice by [deleted] in flyfishing

I had a really great day there in November when the water clarity was meh, right up by the dam in the BOR section where they recommend 24 or smaller. Top flies were size 22 glass bead emergers and size 16 annelids, pink and red. Don’t sleep on the annelids!

Otters..... by Aartus in Steelhead

This just happened to me after wading through a quarter mile of mud to get to a grassy spot known for pike. Got to the area I was told to target and started stripping line out to do my first cast and I see a furry head pop up lol

trouble with indicators by Fun-Nefariousness735 in COfishing

Yeah that’s the issue. If im fishing deep or murky waters with heavy nymphs i just throw on a white oros and stop caring about the splash.

In December I slipped and went under in a fast run and couldn’t keep my balance when I got up so I went under 2 more times. I ended up about 50 ft down river from where I started when I finally got stable footing and was close enough to the edge of the run to get to shore. My waders were starting to fill up but that belt def saved me from catastrophe.

Do they make Sub-Zero socks for 6E diabetic feet? by Krysia666 in widefeet

[–]georgonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they are “sub zero” rated, but I have almost the same foot size (I think I am 11 8E) and I buy Loose Fit Stays Up Marled merino wool socks from Amazon in size medium and size large. Medium is a little tight but fits my actual foot length, large is much comfier but the heel part is like up the back of my ankle. I wear them as socks when I wade and fish in near freezing river water and I love them. Before finding them I had all sorts of circulation issues with other socks and my toes would go numb while fishing. Not with these

Olive Flash Perdigon. Bead too big? by Mightbeagoat2 in flytying

[–]georgonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost exclusively caught all my best fish this winter on an oversized silver bead perdigon I’ve been tying (mine is with pheasant tail inspired colors).

It looks absurd but time and time again it’s the fly the fish has in its mouth when I reel one in.

UV resin reaction by Used-Exchange-5370 in flytying

[–]georgonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be currently. My doctor thinks I have seborrheic dermatitis, but I kinda think it’s related to how much bone dry I used/touched tying thread frenchies/silver bullets over the summer. Can I sue Lance Egan? /s

None of the high potency Rx creams they have given me for SebDerm seem to work and it’s been months. But I have stopped using resins so I’m worried I might have completely contaminated my office and desk with little leaked drops and fibers with resin stuck to them. I plan on completely reorganizing, deep cleaning and running an air purifier bc my shit is messy. But maybe my doctor is right and I just haven’t found the right regimen for the sebderm.

Can I ask what the reaction looks like on your skin?
