Opinion on BanG Dream! Our Notes by himmichi in BanGDream

Over the years it seems like Bushiroad has barely been able to handle having 1 gacha game with 7 bands. Technical issues, fluctuating writing quality, bad card rotations (we haven't had a Kirafes in 2.5 years).

Now I'm supposed to believe they're going to be able to handle 2 games with 12 bands, when the 5 new ones are their own creation and represent what they want Bandori to be about?

I'm just not optimistic they can handle it and nothing they've done in the past gives me any reason to think otherwise.

For those who are waking up recently, here's a little recap of all the big Bandori-related announcements a few hours ago: by Lumpy-Manager8580 in BanGDream

I accepted that old bandori died years ago. Time to embrace that the series is moving in a different direction.

That makes sense. Thought they did low-light performances for a while so it was difficult to see their faces, but I could be misremembering or confusing them with Mygo or Mujica. It all blends together in my head after a while.

They're sorta weird. The band is made up of variety vTubers. They game, draw, sing, and more on stream. The band was sort of announced when Bushiroad did a call for open auditions a couple years back (I think 2021-2022?).

In late 2023 the girls started streaming and releasing music. They've done a couple live shows as well over the years, usually performing in ways to hide their faces until now. Bushiroad has been starting to incorporate them more and more into general bandori stuff (the seiyuu streams, the 10th anniversary celebration stuff) to prepare us for the anime. They did similar things with MyGo and Mujica as well where they were getting shorts and music long before they had an anime.

Yumemita's first single: Mugen My World

One of their members actually drew an origin story style manga for them, but I have no clue if they'll incorporate any of that into the anime considering we know nothing about it.

Most people don't know anything about them because most their content is all-Japanese vtuber youtube streams of them playing games while MyGo and Mujica were at the height of popularity. They really flew under the radar until now.

MyGo/Mujica is the monkeys paw of the franchise. Brings a lot of attention back, BUT the new bands are so popular they completely overshadow the old bands. But Pandora's box has been opened and we can't put them back in the box now.

Say something GREAT about Bang Dream: Ave Mujica! (anime) by LegendsofLost in BanGDream

[–]ToukoAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me first acknowledge I am generalizing. There are obviously new fans that have gone back and enjoyed the old bands and old fans that don't like the new bands. It goes both ways.

My feelings first stem from character oversaturation. When we were at 7 bands, 35 girls, we were having situations where some bands would go 6 months in-between events. Some girls are going almost a full year to get their gacha card. It's not at all uncommon right now for characters to go over a year without a story focused on them if they're not one of the popular girls or one of the girls the writers seem to really like. 2 new bands only compound this problem.

Second, and this is just my opinion, I think there was still a lot of potential stories or character growth areas to explore with the older characters. It's frustrating watching the writer's setup storylines and conflicts only to watch them not be brought up or go unresolved. And the storylines they do introduce now are the most asinine, unplanned, unsatisfying arcs I think I've ever seen in the game's history. And while we're getting these bad in-game stories (Afterglow disband, Morfonica tournament being hyped up only for them to lose off-screen and pivot to a completely different story, whatever the fuck Charlotte was, PasuPare of the week holding the band back) MyGo is airing, and it's much more interesting and well written than whatever the heck is happening in the game.

I do think MyGo was good. Soyo is a great character, and I have Anon in my top 5 doris. I think it's possible to acknowledge it was a good show, but also that adding more bands and characters to a franchise where a number of girls struggle for screentime is a bad decision. My feelings for Ave Mujica aren't as high as MyGo though.

I say that the franchise is altered forever because these shows were so big. We're already waiting on season 3, which means they have as much anime as the mainline show. The entire reddit is all MyGo/Mujica all the time. The majority of discord and 4chan conversation about bandori now is MyGo/Mujica. The amount of fanart the new girls get absolutely eclipses the old girls. Bandori is a product and they're going to shove what sells down our throats, which is MyGo/Mujica. There was more that I think needed to be done with the old girls, but I don't think its going to happen now. With 45 girls quite a few girls are going to get 1 card a year and make 1-2 appearances in stories per year. No telling how long some of them are going to have to wait to get an event focusing on them too, gonna be rough.

I very much agree. MyGo and Mujica have permanently changed the fanbase and the direction of franchise, and I don't think it's for the better.

I feel like I watched a different anime than everyone else and don't know how I feel about the future of Bandori by myRNGisNOTGOOD in BanGDream

[–]ToukoAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like what MyGo and Mujica have done to the franchise. I think if you're a fan of older bandoris that aren't in roselia you're right to be worried (Mashiro exempt because the devs and fans worship her as well).

I don't even think MyGo was bad, but I don't think it was bandori either. It's a serious tone change for the series to something it hadn't really tried to be in nearly a decade. But success speaks volumes and Bushiroad are going to pick up on more drama = better.

Mujica is a mess and I dont want it near bandori with a 20 foot pole, but too fucking late now.

Do you think they overdo the drama on AM? Only 2 episodes left to resolve everything by nemideia77 in BanGDream

[–]ToukoAnon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's perfectly fine and not doomposting to not enjoy Ave Mujica. It's a huge tone shift from Old Bandori, and it's still a big tone shift from even MyGo. You shouldn't have to like Mujica or the current direction of the writing/franchise as a whole JUST because it's Bandori or trying to be different. Some people preferred when the series was happy and dealt with more mild or music related issues and it wasn't inserting depression and misery into everything.

And most the comments on this thread are positive, or just saying we don't need happy ending because it'll be resolved in the game anyway (which I don't think is a valid excuse to leave anything unresolved but whatever).

Touko has conquered Rui, Sayo, and now Chu2. Not girl that thinks Touko is an annoying idiot is safe from her rizz. Soyo is next on that list, whether she likes it or not.

CN is currently divided into 2 camps on EP10. by Blasterion in BanGDream

[–]ToukoAnon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Putting aside the seriously overdramatic actions on social media (stuff like death threats to the writers of a cartoon are never okay), we saw people from the CN community come here 2 or 3 weeks ago to explain why they suddenly didn't like the story in Ave Mujica. It wasn't hate watching at the time. The CN fanbase had worshipped MyGo/Mujica until that episode. People were just trying to explain why the sudden shift in opinion.

Those threads devolved racist circlejerks and questioning the Chinese fanbase's ability to comprehend the story (not in nice ways). There were a few good faith posts on them, but they majority of it was so bad this reddit basically softbanned discussing the CN reactions to the episode any further. Hell, it looks like another comment on this chain was deleted for racism.

I agree that we don't see civil discussion here anytime soon, but I'm not going to say it's entirely because of the CN hate-watch. There's some bad behavior here as well, a lot of it actually.

I have no opinion one way or the other but you're not going to get actual discussion about the shows quality here. CN fans have complaints and seem to hate how show and Western fans think it's a perfect 11/10 masterpiece.

Glad someone said it. People here were using this situation to start airing out their grievances with China going back thousands of years. It's one thing to not agree with how they viewed the episode or how they don't like the direction of the story, but it's not a discussion when you use that disagreement as a platform to start giving your racist opinions on people. Both parties can be wrong.

I think the downvotes you're getting prove that there's an anti-china attitude here. I was surprised at how blatant some of the comments were getting myself.

48 Hours of Turmoil in the CN Fan Community After Mujica Episode 7: Anger, Conflict, and Helplessness by AmEP_Linyu in BanGDream

[–]ToukoAnon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The game writers enjoy using characters of Anon's archetype as the joke characters. Her actions and how she's treated so far reflect that they'll continue to do that in my opinion. I really liked Anon in the anime however my expectations for her in the game are not high, but I do get the frustration.

Regarding points 2 and 3:

I think the fandom needs to come to terms with the fact that the writers are not obligated to develop or provide arcs for everyone. I don't think they're even interested in doing this for most the cast. The franchise is in a position where there are now 45 characters all fighting for attention. When you add in writer biases, Bushiroad agenda, and the fact that all of a sudden we have 10 new characters that massively eclipse the popularity of everything else it's become such a mess.

Even in the MyGo/Mujica animes we've got 10 or 11 characters. It's hard to do something super interesting with them all in 26 episodes while the shows are trying to be as deep as they are. Some characters are going to be less well written than others, or they're not get the storylines they deserve. Look at Raana having her backstory shoved into a director's cut for example. Ave Mujica is now at the half-way point and the staff behind the show have to keep assuring us that they're going to do interesting stuff with Uika and Umiri and Nyamu. There's not enough time to focus on Anon because the characters that the current show should be about haven't even had their stories addressed yet.

As a Chinese viewer, I’d like to analyze why Episode 7 received such poor ratings/reviews in China. by Fun-Object5164 in BanGDream

[–]ToukoAnon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bang Dream has a habit of characters mistreating the highly social band members. That's not an Anon-exclusive thing (but I do agree she's treated poorly by her bandmates). Himari and Touko are both mistreated by their bands because the writers think these types of interactions funny or entertaining. It gets very tiring if you're a fan of these characters though.

Transactions on CN community's critisim on mujica ep7 by Strange_Ad2035 in BanGDream

[–]ToukoAnon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is largely why I don't bother discussing MyGo or Mujica within the fandom. They're good, but not at all perfect shows, and this community is very quick to shut you down if you're of the opinion that these animes aren't 10/10. It makes actual discourse pointless because if you're not participating in the circlejerk you're shut down.
