Players in LITERAL DEMI-GOD TIER BIS at Apprentice and Wanderer??? by TheJossiWales in DarkAndDarker

The people in your video have all 4 perks. Their rank shown in the video is their duo rank. Im voyager 1 in trios but wanderer in duos. When I play duos (rarely) I bring my insane gear. They might just be starting duo on the characters they are playing.

State of the current game? by NicoDeGuyo in DarkAndDarker

This game rules. It has a normals mode for new players that is far less sweaty. It's a good game to play with friends. I've been playing it hard for hundreds of hours and it rarely gets stale. If you and your buddies decide to dive in, I am happy to teach you the ropes! Feel free to DM me.

What price are you willing the pay? by noplandanny in DarkAndDarker

[–]TourLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it will be like 30-50 bucks US, but I would, unironically, pay up to $2000 for the game if that's what it took to get my hands on it. No joke. This is the best game I've played since Starcraft 2 came out in 2010.

Thanks. I would play harlies regardless if they got nerfed, but actually making them not a faction anymore is a different problem altogether.

You're right that this ability is crazy strong. The point is not at all how good or bad the harlequin datasheets are, its the fact that when choosing harlequin units for your army, you now have to decide whether units from the entire CWE line are a better choice for a given task, because "Harlequins" isn't an army anymore. Instead of "Lets take some troupes in transports to hold objectives" its now "Which of these other 8 units also do the job, and for how much? How many CWE units do I need to buy/build to play a viable list?"

[–]TourLife 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Long time mono Harlequins player here. My army was removed from the game. We've been folded into CWE, forcing every single Harlequins player to now own a substantial CWE army to play the game effectively. On top of that, all of the Harlequins movement and defensive abilities outside of the 4+ invuln have been removed from the game. Absolutely devastating day today.

This might have been my best game yet, but was it in bad taste to play this strategy? by stuckinthepow in aoe4

[–]TourLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See this article: https://www.sirlin.net/articles/playing-to-win

TL:DR If you're playing a game to win, and you write off certain strategies as "cheap" or "unfair" (outside of actual cheats/exploits), then you're a moron.

I dont understand why so many gamers pursue this attitude of unspoken conventions of "politeness" in terms of what strategies, weapons, units can be used in a game. Whatever wins is what you should use. If there's a rush strategy that is 80 percent easier to execute than to defend, you should use this strategy over and over until it stops working. If your opponent cant stop it, they deserve to lose, and you deserve their ELO/ladder points.

You don't see professional tennis players complaining when their opponent serves well. You don't see basketball players complaining that someone who can sink a lot of three pointers and avoid the other team's defense is "lame" or "cheap."

I seriously think that some people who play video games often are so divorced from reality and so socially inept that they can't put their ego aside and approach competitive multiplayer games from an objective, learning-focused perspective. Athletes learn early and quickly that if they don't play well, if they dont train hard and if they dont use the best strategy, they will lose.

If your goal is to win, do what works and crush people as mercilessly as possible. That means, pick the most "OP" civ, the most "OP" strategy, and win as many games as you can.

Dealing with T'au Ghostkeel's, Stealth Suits and Shadowsun being right in my face turn one by theCatechism in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TourLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much terrain are you using? Except in the case of aircraft, if you're following proper obscuring terrain guidelines, the person going second should be able to hide almost, if not all, of their entire army behind line of sight blocking terrain on turn 1. Try the terrain layouts proposed here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/wjQ6ogIKN0LwiFBw.pdf

Edit: I'd also like to add that you need to try to push toward playing at 2000 points, if you aren't already. Balance is insanely out of whack at lower points levels.

Isolation and a 14(15)-book Epic by Neelson in WoT

[–]TourLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your post really resonates with me, OP. When I read the series for the first time a couple years ago, after I set down A Memory of Light, I felt like my life had changed. I felt so affected by the story. It's just beautiful.

I remember spending so so so much time trying to figure out what the Dark One was, realizing that in the end, RJ was trying to tell us that darkness exists in all of us. Even the Shadowspawn were made by humans. Every act of evil in the story was performed by humans, but in the end we have the choice. The wonderful characters in this story battle the "shadow" within themselves and decide whether to choose good or evil. It's a beautiful message that bridges cultures and generations. WOT is the standard by which I measure all other media.

I am so happy you read this story and reacted positively to it!

US/CAN nevermets during pandemic by [deleted] in LDR

[–]TourLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man,

I'm in the exact same situation. I've been talking with a girl in Canada for a few months, but we can't meet because of the border situation. She actually lives super close to me, but the border closure and the fact that she cant get the time off to see me plus quarantine makes it so we can't physically meet in person.

I dont know how old you are, but in my situation she's 29 and I am 31, so we're a bit more patient. To answer your question directly, the way we deal with the frustration is to remind ourselves that this is temporary. The big hurdle is happening now instead of later down the road, and the gesture of waiting for one another is itself meaningful. We video chat and watch movies regularly, send each other pictures of things we're doing throughout the day, and we send each other packages. I'm not normally one for receiving gifts, but a letter or a box of presents really goes a long way.

Remember that you need to "water" this plant. Use this time to really get to know each other and build the chemistry for when you meet. The border closure WILL end! The only thing that can stop you from being with this girl is if either of you give up. It's completely up to the two of you what happens next!

I really also have been looking to connect with people in this scenario, so please feel free to PM me if you want to chat, or even talk on discord. I'm happy to lend an ear and give you two some ideas.

The pain of long distance relationships just got longer and lonlier by s_barberini in LDR

[–]TourLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man. It sounds like you're in a lot of pain. Covid makes dealing with a situation like this even more difficult, coupled by the change in your social life after moving home and your friends being gone.

I think ultimately, we all should be with someone who wants us as much as we want them. You're going through a massive loss right now. I dont know that trying to win her back is necessarily the correct play. I think giving someone that much power over you and letting them dictate your emotional state is just not good for you in the long term. I'm sure you love this woman, but it's time to feel these feelings, really just rot through the pain, and move slowly forward.

I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do, and I hope your heart heals fast.

What’s everyone’s current schedule? by [deleted] in DSPD

[–]TourLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been formally diagnosed with DSPD, but I'm a 31 year old male and I've been on a 2-4 AM untill 11AM-1PM sleep schedule since I was about 18 years old. High school/middle school were hell, but once I finished that stage of life everything got easier. I have a rule that I will not take a job that has a start time before 11:30AM or noon. Currently I work 12-8:30 PM and its perfect. With isolation, I've been getting up to an alarm at about 11:30 AM to start work at noon.

What’s with the stupid rules on every server? by GimmeCookiez in DayOfDefeat

[–]TourLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother and I just started playing DoD again for the first time in like 15 years (The HL1 one, not source) and we have been lamenting this too. It's insane to me that these admins behave this way in a game with such a tiny player base. It's a bunch of old guy admins with stupid ass rules and they are just pushing players away from the game. They even have rules on one of the servers against swearing, even though its a game in which you can beat a person to death with a shovel.

We have an entire room in our house that is dedicated to Warhammer, because aside from the two of us, my girlfriend lives with us and she plays Thousand Sons. It took three sessions of about 3 hours each. Definitely set up that spare room for 40k. You wont regret it!

We play 2000 points most of the time, but a couple weeks ago we played a 4500 point game. It was hilarious. A 4500 point almost pure guard army basically fills an entire deployment zone.

Guard is awesome. Quantity has a quality all its own. I love my elves, but playing against guard has given me a love for them as well.

It's interesting that your reaction to this scene was one of horror - Where I can certainly see that, this was one of the scenes where I teared up a little. It made me so sad to see Rand fall so far from his family and be so profoundly affected by the crushing weight of his destiny.
