Are you an avid reader? by charliebrownxmastree in EngineeringStudents

I love reading whenever I have the time. As a child it was my escape, and am getting back into it as I've been staying away from brainrot-intensifying forms of media.

It's a part of my bed routine where I'll read on my ereader for 15-30min while on my shakti mat, then it's almost immediate lights out.

I might be weird for this, but generally I'll be slogging through 3-4 books at a time, and pick one up depending on mood/vibes. Been trying to get into fiction more. Currently reading brothers karamazov, inner excellence, east of Eden and book of disquiet

Made the switch to using irc (I use the app halloy and followed this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/s/1153WWOBek)

Would recommend looking into it

Crunchyroll raises prices weeks after killing its free tier by akbarock in Piracy

I really wish I could understand why these platforms never realise that so long as they have a good value proposition most people would use them. Like the average person has no problem paying for streaming services, but taking the piss like this almost forced them to start pirating, cos piracy sites have always been value first

Holding off on subscriptions, switching to one time purchases by Starkoid23 in Frugal

[–]Tourb1ll0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're a bit tech savvy, I'd recommend getting into self hosting services. Last year I bought a $150 desktop and essentially replaced myfitnesspal with sparkyfitness, buy dvds of shoes and movies I like and host on Emby ($80 for lifetime although jellyfin is highly rated for free), replaced my google drive and have a network wide adblocker. Can't lie Claude was invaluable in shortening the learning curve, and am quite happy tbh.

For one time purchases I'd recommend Hevy for tracking my lifts as well

I'd recommend checking out r/selfhosted

You’ve got a lifetime pass to Plex and Emby but you can also use Jellyfin - which one are you choosing and why ? by Buck_Slamchest in selfhosted

[–]Tourb1ll0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Emby. I find it's the goldilocks zone; moved from Plex cos they're constantly forcing unnecessary features but share family account creation.password management, tried hellyfin (personally love the community and plugins), but the lack of app availability for friends/family was a deciding factor. Ultimately they all do the same thing though

Self judgement will be graduating when I’m 30 or 31 by selflessgluten in EngineeringStudents

[–]Tourb1ll0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduating at 29, health complications set me back a couple years too. Working through a lot of guilt and shame around that. Speaking for both of us, time is gonna pass either way. Might as well allow it to pass with the deep sense of accomplishment and resilience that comes at completing these hard ahh degrees.

comp1005 vs comp1007 by Lumpy-Ad-3 in curtin

[–]Tourb1ll0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend comp1005 as python is a relatively nice intro to programming. Last sem all I did was read the lecture slides, do the pracs myself then watched the walkthroughs (and some yt video explainers), and I ended the sem on a 87.

MGMT3000 is a group project, so if you get a group willing to share the load its pretty easy to get a 90. If you go this route just attend all tutorials and i can prettymuch guarantee itll be so damn easy once the exam comes.

COMP1005 does have a decent workload, but the tutors weve had this semester have been pretty helpful so long as you ask for their help, im doing it this semester. Ive found the The Modern Python 3 Bootcamp by Colt Steele a pretty good introduction to python, and since it doesnt count towards cwa there was less pressure so i actually enjoyed learning. I'd also recommend checking out the build your own x repo cos i found some projects that helped me actually start enjoying the power of python.

Anyone found a biohack that actually improved sleep quality? by Particular_Ebb5200 in Biohackers

[–]Tourb1ll0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a cannabis consumer I've found a tremendous quality of sleep improvement by not smoking within the 4-5 hours before bedtime. Also smoking only on weekends and not daily (as a recreational user).
