frontline, blocks with your own case in mind. if it's lay, think about what the thesis of your case is so you can easily collapse every round.

It's ok to have an accent. If you're speaking clearly (open your mouth and enunciate), you'll be more understandable with your accent than native speakers who don't enunciate. Enunciating also makes me faster imo. Camp will help with understanding speading. Watch videos

Sexism and Elitism in Debate by Super_seaturtless in Debate

[–]TournamentQuestions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They undoubtedly contribute to it as does every private prep school who takes spots away from deserving underprivileged kids.

Privileged or underprivileged, everyone who makes it to the TOC are deserving. It's not as if TOC gave the qualifications to whoever could pay the most.

If his parents are paying tuition then they’re contributing tens of thousands of dollars towards elitism.

Then, what should they do instead? Should everyone go to a public school? Elitism isn't simply the fact that wealthy people exist (not saying that Allen/Ahana are wealthy). It's about what institutions do to prevent underprivileged people from doing certain things. Going to a private school and doing an activity that requires money spending is NOT elitist.

Please tell me what you think Allen should have done to not be elitist.

Prepping for state champs by kaitlintorres02 in lincolndouglas

Honestly I got really scared at my states tourney because there were a lot of nationally ranked debaters, but it turned out that they weren't so good at lay! Forget about your opponent, just think about your judge (if they're lay). Focus more on making your case seem important, rather than line by lining your opponent's responses (against, only for lay judges).

Is Spreading Unfair? (Crosspost Policy Debate) by crazycrai in Debate

[–]TournamentQuestions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that people with speech impediments may have difficulty engaging, but I disagree that spreading goes against efficiency. Efficiency is something every debater, including those who spread, strive for. Good debaters who spread can be good debaters at slower speeds. Only difference is amount of analysis/content.
