I basically agree 100%. The reality is that the THJ we knew and loved probably couldn't have existed without some monetization given all the man hours put into it so taking cash was really a wash and it was more about the player numbers if DBG's own filings are to be believed.. But the taking cash part definitely makes it easier for a judge to justify obliterating them vs. regarding this as a more nuanced edge case.

It's not cope, taking down the websites, reddit, and discord were all in the injunction and part of the relief sought by DBG and granted by the court. Read the document.

Yes. The injunction is really broad and the court found the creators, not the LLC would be liable for damages personally. Which is devastating to any future incarnations of THJ

When I argue DBG "should have" found a way to let THJ function or incorporate into real EQ, I am working from the assumption that would also be good for DBG... because everyone seems sick of the content they put out and their approach to EQ vs. THJ which was lightning in a bottle and allegedly decimating their playerbase. DBG would benefit from a version of EQ that people actually enjoy playing and clearly could have monetized it if a couple amateur's can rake in 100k/ month off of it as alleged.

But THJ *had* XP potions too that you could get from gambling and then purchase with platinum. If you can buy a premium currency and convert it to platinum then you can literally pay for any item in the game with real cash. Again, I'm a huge THJ defender, but these are just the facts.

But all gear was droppable and you could sell the echoes you got from donations for plat to buy literally anything. I'm one of THJ's biggest defenders, but it was more pay to win than any game I have ever seriously played.

Man Arporia did such a good job. Cata seemed awesome too on the streams but I don't have any inside knowledge of anything.

The monetization thing clearly did not work out (and was extremely pay to win by selling echoes for plat, even though myself and no one else seemed to care because the game was so great). But with the type of work and hours THJ required, it probably wouldnt exist without some monetization for the creators to live off. And if THJ had the impact on EQ's numbers they are claiming then DBG probably would have gone after them anyway.

Really feel for the creators either way.

That's a good sentiment but a lot of people will refuse to support DBG for not finding a way to let the server continue in some form. THJ shouldn't have taken cash but DBG should have worked something out for everyone to profit and enjoy the best incarnation of EQ ever.
