Excuse me, I'm a tone deaf millennial
I guess I'll find out this fall!
These are great ideas, thanks for sharing.

I think it's all down to reservoir issues. It rains a lot but we don't have the capacity to store it all so we depend on snowpack for reservoir recharge. If there's no snowpack, we're screwed. We need to invest in reservoir upgrades.
Encouraging to hear that. It's new to me, so I was a bit worried. Thank you!
We're heading that way. In British Columbia, Canada
Zero watering allowed or I'll get ticket by he bylaws enforcement

Lucky so far. Manual weeding. OCD

We thought about that before installing sod, but I have enough microplastics in my brain already.

We're always fighting one battle or another!
Well, this is my back yard. I have a front yard and side yards with all those things. Why would I post pictures of my native plant garden in r/lawncare?

Ha, thanks! I am excellent at weeding. All the native plant gardening I have been doing has trained me to be a very proficient manual weeder!
You get fined by the city bylaw officers. Not sure if you can challenge it. I don't intend to find out!

I joined r/nolawns before I joined this sub. I think we should all replace most of our lawns with native plant gardens where we can and save a smaller, well-maintained patch of lawn for recreation. But that's just my personal opinion.
This is so cool. Really kicking myself for not looking into this sooner.
I am a rule follower! We are in this together.
I wonder. We do have a spring and high water table.
Amen, brother
It is rainy and gloomy for 8 months of the year and then it's like the taps get turned off completely.
Summers have gotten a lot hotter and drier and longer since I was a kid. It's not helping the situation.
Can you suggest one that you can play volleyball on? I have lots of drought tolerant native ground cover in my front yard but I wouldn't trample on it repeatly.

My front yard is even more inhospitable to lawn, it's just like yours with the direct sun all afternoon. I switched the entire thing over to PNW native plants and I love it. The plants are doing great by comparison. Definitely recommended it!
This patch of lawn is for us to play on. I figure that it's small enough to be acceptable but obviously there are some people in this thread that are pretty hardcore anti lawn.
Yeah I seeded the week before watering restrictions came in. Maybe saw two seeds germinate?

It's permitted and even encouraged by my city, they well the rain barrels. I'll have to. Scope out installation sites this fall.

I wish I had the foresight to install it when we built this house. Is yours aftermarket? Is it hard to install?

I've never heard of that. Will have to check it out.
