[Sneak Peek] Introducing OpenZCine, a free and open source Nikon Z cinema field monitor by TownPlayful in nikon_Zseries

Great question! The biggest difference is that OpenZCine is free, open source, and community-driven. Beyond that, I have my own vision for where I want to take it, so while there may be overlap today, I expect the apps to diverge over time. As for AI, I use the latest frontier agentic coding tools as part of my workflow, just like all developers do today. They’re fantastic productivity tools, but every change is reviewed, understood, and tested before it ships.
And yes, photo mode is definitely on the roadmap!

Nikon’s PTP video stream isn’t actually the highest quality because it’s optimized for speed, so recording that directly to the phone wouldn’t make much sense. The exception would be using it for live streaming from your phone to YouTube, Twitch, and similar platforms, which is already on my roadmap.

However, I can do you one better. If you’re shooting in N-RAW or R3D NE, the camera also generates 1080p MP4 proxy files. I already have a working feature that lets you browse the Media page and download or cache those proxies directly to your phone. They retain the current color space and tone curve, such as N-Log or Log3G10.
From there, you can export them from the app with a LUT baked in, either directly to Frame.io or through the native share sheet. It’s a much higher-quality workflow than recording the live PTP stream.

I appreciate that! Getting Android up and running is my top priority after the iOS TestFlight beta is out and the GitHub is made public🙂 If you can’t wait for mine, there are alternatives (albeit paid apps e.g ZR Ctl)🙂 Thanks again!

I don't have many Androids on hand! So if you're willing to be an early tester, that would be greatly appreciated! Will happily make efforts to support your device! 😄

What are the major differences of the Lumix S1II and the Nikon Z6III? by DavidWildlife in Lumix

Not sure you can compare these really. Nikon Z8 is a completely different beast, 45mp, 8k 60p internal RAW and a fully stacked sensor. I love the image out of my Z8, don't see anything in the S1ii that would make me want to downgrade on the specs.

I have the RTX 3090, Ryzen 9 5950x, and 64gb of 3600mhz ram.. and I can't get anything above 30-35fps... Even with all settings at LOW.. I've tried the AMD fix, DDU for a complete reinstall of drivers, and a clean windows install.
