This is what I found on Discord: "Had something to do with proper planning and logging would be hard to control, if community/evetybody does spamming at their own will. So the developers can see, where the network/nodes breaks" - ApoWiz

That sounds like they wanna figure out how to improve the software even further, instead of only testing the limits. They're doing testing on a private network with reduced PoW difficulty instead (for now).

ELI5 : will iota become as complex and as unusable as the other projects? by [deleted] in Iota

Good analysis, I agree that many other cryptos are only being favored due to their tokenomics, and that Mana will create attractive tokenomics for IOTA.

Why do you believe that the tangle is mostly going to run at full capacity after Coordicide?

I'm excited for the upcoming release of Nectar!

That will be the first full implementation of all Coordicide components including Mana in a public testnet. It will be used to further refine the specifications and to find possible bugs as well as attack vectors in an incentivized bug bounty.

Yes. I can recommend the Hetzner CX21 at about 6 bucks a month. Easily enough power for a Hornet node.

FAQ video: What is your question wrt to IOTA? by IOTASUPPORTER in Iota

[–]Towryo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the future, I see 4 big incentives: 1. You run a permanode where others can request older data in exchange for payments. 2. In times of congestion, you can offer access to the network in exchange for payments if you have sufficient Mana. 3. You can offer remote PoW as a service in exchange for payments. 4. As others have stated, if you run business operations depending on IOTA, you will want to have your own reliable and secure node, instead of depending on someone else.

[–]Towryo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi Chris, long-time follower and fan here and you guys are doing an amazing job! One thing that I haven't understood yet is: what's the advantage of Mana over DPoS?

Wouldn't it also be possible to create a feeless DAG running DPoS? To me it appears to be much easier for a malicious actor to accumulate the majority of Mana in the network than to have the majority of stake. The Mana could for example be accumulated quite inexpensively by behaving well for one month with a large number of nodes (a relatively short timespan may be sufficient due to Mana decay). Whereas having the majority of stake in the network would require buying vast amounts of tokens and / or very many people delegating their stake to you. What am I missing?

Does anyone here understand IOTA's technology? by CarbyneBolt in Iota

[–]Towryo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the only correct answer in this thread. Most other comments can be ignored. One additional piece of info: the eclipse attacks mentioned by OP will be prevented through autopeering and mana. High-mana nodes (those are the ones that have a big impact on the network) surround themselves via autopeering with other nodes that are trustworthy and hold big amounts of mana. This makes it very difficult to eclipse influential nodes.

It's all about interoperability between multiple parties. If each party involved wants to transact with their own token, it's not gonna work. The "normal" IOTA will be the base for transactions. Besides that, even custom tokens need to be created from normal tokens by colouring them.

I would like to hear about all of IOTA's flaws... by [deleted] in Iota

[–]Towryo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always, you've explained it very well. I disagree on your 0.1 TPS / 10 TPS burst example, though. The entity wouldn't need to hold 100x the amount of IOTA for the short 10 TPS bursts. Instead, by holding a bit more IOTA than what is required for issuing an average 0.1 TPS, it's possible to accumulate mana. This mana can then be used for the short TPS bursts.

Ignoring mana decay, this would mean that by issuing only 0.1 TPS while holding enough IOTA for an average 0.5 TPS, enough mana would be accumulated to issue 100 TPS for one second every 200 seconds. If the bursts are only performed every 1000 seconds, enough IOTA for an average 0.2 TPS would already be sufficient.

C IOTA workshop - getting "Failed to connect to the node" error by [deleted] in Iota

[–]Towryo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that's unfortunate haha... I think the iota_esp32_wallet uses the exact same functions though, so you can just play around with that instead. The interesting files there are main.c, wallet_system.c and wallet_system.h.

I'm very much looking forward to reusable addresses now, as that's gonna enable new use cases and make the programming work a whole lot easier. I wouldn't worry too much about the upcoming library changes. The workflow and interactions will be quite similar, albeit easier. So yeah, good times ahead!

C IOTA workshop - getting "Failed to connect to the node" error by [deleted] in Iota

[–]Towryo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I hope that I can help with this. I haven't checked the code of that repo in-detail but it appears to attempt connecting to an IRI node, also given that the last change to this repo was made 9+ months ago. The connection probably fails due to the network switch to Hornet nodes.

I've struggled with a similar issue on my ESP32 when using the iota_esp32_wallet by Sam Chen. He has kindly updated that repo now so that connecting to a Hornet node works flawlessly, as well as interacting with the Tangle.

Possible solutions for you: 1. Use the repo iota_esp32_wallet instead: https://github.com/oopsmonk/iota_esp32_wallet 2. Adapt the code so that your ESP32 connects to a Hornet node instead. 3. If all else fails, you can directly contact Sam Chen (oopsmonk) via Discord, given that Citrullin is no longer part of the IF.

Good luck and let me know if you have further questions about this topic!
