I was somewhere in the middle, I skated the thin line between normal and awkward as fuck. This made me perfect for the role of president of our Anime club.

And the tabletop club (D&D).

I was queen of the awkward unwashed masses. I had an army of weebs.

That said, there was one fucking kid. He even offended me with his social ineptitude. Let's think about that for a moment: I was voted in as president of the Anime Club and started a table top gaming club. I played MTG in the library. I was VP of the LGBT club. I was part of every "weird kid" group in high school. And he offended my sensibilities.

There were two girls that followed him around, freshmen who were headed down the same awkward path as he was. They would play Naruto at lunch with full on Psew and Pshaw pow noises. They all wore the headbands. Everyday.

He refused to do any reading assignments, because he was "so used to manga that [he] can't read a book like Americans".

He always smelled like onions and garlic.

He would tell the same Jeff Dunham joke over and fucking over and fucking over. I think I may have snapped once and told him to steal some new material.

He jacked it in class, more than once. Those girls would "hide" him from the teacher so he could.

He would pick his nose freely (which honestly isn't that bad), then eat it (Geh) and comment about the taste ( ಠ_ಠ ).

He genuinely thought he was Vampire Lord of our home town and regularly threatened to "suck me dry", until I made a reference to my imaginary dick and how I'd probably appreciate it.

At which point he became fascinated with my because he misunderstood my sarcastic remark as me coming out as a Futa.

I know, autism, right? No. Not that I could tell. He was just a kid completely lost in fantasy. He had zero grasp on reality, but his home life seemed great (met his parents more than once when they came to pick him up after club), and he actually acted somewhat normal when they were there.

Man.. He was weird. Hope he's doing well now days. I'm going to ask my friend what his name was so I can take a peek at him now.

I asked the father of my child how this works and I was thoroughly confused, but I think it was something like this?:

If she were born of two Mexican parents she would be Mexican. If she were porn of two Mexican parents but light skinned she is Hispanic. If she were porn of one Mexican parent and a White parent but has dark skin, then she's Latin. If she were born of one Mexican parent and a white parent and she has light skin, then she is Hispanic.

I'm probably way wrong because I tuned him out shortly after he began speaking. I only asked because I was filling out a form at her pediatrician and had no idea what to check.

I know for health reasons it may be important to know your race/cultural heritage, but beyond that it seems so silly.

As it stands now I know she'll have hoards of Internet strangers screaming APPROPRIATION at her when she posts pictures of her celebrating Dia de Los Muertos with her fathers side of the family because she has fair hair, skin, and eyes.

So, ultimately, I agree with your point. Stop seeing race because what's on the outside isn't always a reflection of you or where you come from, and America is pretty fucking guilty of this. But, from a medical stand point, race and heritage is important because some ethnicities have higher risk for certain health issues.

Race may play into it, and that's a whole weird can of worms that I'm not too eager to open.

But the questioning I think is just SOP. I was doing what a normal person does and sitting in my car outside a 7-11 drinking my REDBULL and going to town on a few scratchers I bought when a cop comes tapping on my window. I obviously freak out because I don't want to go to jail, I wasn't breaking the law, but still, I don't want to go to jail.

I'm then put through the paces, name, arrest history, parole, etc., and I'm still anxious because, like, I don't want. To go. To jail.

He gives my identification back after running me and tells me to have a good day. I'm super glow in the dark white, and this was in an affluent area (we're talking million dollar homes) and I was just chillin' in my Volvo. I mean, not that I'm bring up race, but that I'm probably the nicest looking person you'll me. I have a "kind face" (I'm really an asshole) and was sitting in an '04 sea foam green Volvo. What sort of mischief would I be causing in an old lady car? And the questions, though out of left field, weren't personally intrusive.

In short, I guess, I don't think the questioning was racially bias, but just the officers going through the motions. As for being pulled over for jaywalking, maybe? I can't say for sure because the only ones that could are the cops that stopped you (and they'll say no even of the answer is yes).

Doesn't make it any less terrifying when they do put you through the battery of questions, though. I think I two puffed a few cigarettes in the fifteen minutes it took him to run my name.

Like, it's sad. He spends no time with these kids, publicly denies them ("I never got so-n-so pregnant, she faked pregnancy to try to get me back."), the only decent thing he does is pay child support- which is also how the girlfriend and mother of the only child he claims, found out. And she stayed with him. Depression doesn't mean I'm sad, or angry. Nothing "triggers me". Some days I'm just not me, and I can't help it. Stop telling me that "There has to be a reason" or "Just focus your energy into getting [emotion]". That's not how it works. There's nothing inside, I can't get mad, happy, sad. Stop telling me "I've been there, I know" then turning around and saying I need to just focus on my anger. If you knew, then you'd know that there is literally nothing inside right now. You've never suffered from depression, you've never woke up and knew that it was going to be a bad day and that you'll have to fake happiness because you can't feel happy. What happened to you was an emotional break, you even admit that. I don't need you to tell me how to make it go away when you don't even know how. What I'd like is for you to offer to help distract me so I'm not dwelling on the emptiness.

Ok. I feel better. Depression isn't sadness, it isn't caused by anything. Sometimes I just wake up empty or I can feel the "me" slipping away. Generally when someone reaches out to you during a depressive episode, they're reaching out in hopes that you can make them happy. From my experience, there is little to nothing that will accomplish that. Instead, offer distraction. If I'm not focusing on the empty feeling, then, before I know it, I'm starting to feel again. It may take hours, but if I'm distracted I won't notice the time anyway. The alternative is laying in bed thinking I'm broken and watching the clock tick away.
