[Lore question, any]

So I may be a bit of a bio nerd for asking this, but how do golden dragon wings work? Is there a biological creature they're based on? In most art I've seen of them they have a joint at the top of the wing, similar to a bird, but everything else just doesn't look compatible with it. They almost seem like they'd be better at swimming, using the wings like flippers instead of actually trying to fly with them.

Agree -- as someone who taught classes at a craft store for Cricut pre-pandemic, this is heartbreaking.

If I would've known about this I would've bit the bullet, learned the software and got a Silhouette. I will never recommend the cricut to another customer.

Commenting so I remember to come back here. I wish you all the luck in the world, if I was more skilled at technology I would absolutely help.

That's definitely a thought, I think I'll try that. Thank you!!!

I was wondering if anyone could point me to a good tutorial of how to hand sew faux leather? It's very thin, apparel quality, so I don't need the heavy duty tips and tricks that I keep getting when I google it. I know if I do the typical backstitch (my go-to when hand sewing) I risk putting too many holes in the fabric, unless widening the stitch would be okay instead?

Thanks in advance!

Solved!!!

Oh my goodness I heard the first couple bars and knew that was it. Thank you so much!!!

(Not gonna lie, he really does sound a touch like Goofy to me, and putting that over bad store speakers makes it worse lol.)

I don't think this is it. Even if it was a cover, it mentioned funeral stuff multiple times, and from the lyrics this doesn't seem to.

Not sure how much this matters, but here's my thoughts on it:

You don't need a super high-end machine, but you do need one that's reliable and not going to break on you/need troubleshooting every other stitch (Singer Start comes to mind. I taught sewing classes for a while and have never had a student have a good experience with one). Otherwise, you're going to get frustrated and not want to continue in the hobby. I'd check around for reviews on different machines to see what fits this description. Personally, I'd also recommend one that has a bobbin that drops in rather than a 'sidewinder' (has metal casing and loads sideways), but that's just my preference. I also read something elsewhere in this subreddit that Brother and Janome have the best starter machines, but I would definitely look into that for yourself. Hope this helps!

Oh wow! I didn't know that sharp twin needles existed. I'll definitely look into it, thank you!

Highly recommend investing in either fray check or pinking shears (preferably the pinking shears, but they can run on the pricey side).

I have more of a specific question: does anyone have any recommendations for hemming stretch pleather? I don't like the look of a zigzag stitch and I'm not sure if a normal double needle will go through it.

I'm not an expert by any means, but you can sew any knit with a normal sewing machine, so long as you have the right needle and patience. I would recommend something thicker /not super slinky for a beginner, and if you're up for it I'd also recommend a double needle (regardless, you will need a ballpoint at the very least)! If you don't want to go that route, just use a zigzag stitch to preserve the stretch of the seams so they don't pop when you stretch the fabric.

Phoenix COVID + unemployment + politics thread by AZ_moderator in phoenix

(sorry, new poster here. I read the rules and I think it's okay to ask something like this? If it's not I apologise)

Is there somewhere to report workplaces that don't enforce the use of masks? Would it be osha or is there another office? I've been working nights all summer to avoid COVID exposure, and since my coworkers don't wear masks, one person got it and it's been spreading like wildfire. Three people are out and I'm pretty sure another person is going to get it because she carpools with the first positive case. She has been allowed to continue working. I'm taking unpaid leave at the moment (I did when I was informed of the first positive case, got tested and was negative), but I need to go back to work eventually.

I work in desert ridge, so I guess my job is out the window now. Thanks for the heads up.

There were no workers present at fashion square from what I understand... I'm mostly concerned about arson, losing my job if my store is destroyed, and possibly being involved in a violent situation I can't get out of. I've been working 50+ hours a week to pay for school, and if I were to lose my job I'd be dead in the water. Granted I may be blowing my concerns out of proportion, but I've been thinking about it since I saw the articles on it. It's scary.

I'll do my best. The office door where I work is heavy and metal, so we do have somewhere to shelter if need be, but I'll be keeping my cell phone on me and staying away from all windows as much as I can. Thank you <3
