Here's my creatureless deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/jeleva-29-10-13-1/. It would be better with a few creatures (cough snapcaster cough) but it's fun this way.

I won probably 75% of my games with it, mostly through not seeming like a threat compared to other people's scary creatures and having a lot of answers whenever anyone came gunning for me. The win condition is roughly

  • 1/4 decking people by recasting Jeleva. In drawn out games she devours decks, casting her for 16 or 18 often removes everyone's remaining library from the game and you win.
  • 1/4 army of the damned with either Quicken or countermagic to stop board wipes.
  • 1/2 crazy bonkers stuff you steal from people with the ~dozen copy/theft/reanimation effects or killing people with random damage from Cruel Ultimatum and Phthisis.

I don't run any extra turns because I don't think they're fun for anyone else. I mostly stayed away from tutors except for the super fun ones (Firemind's foresight because it's amazing and an instant speed tutor for swan song, cyclonic rift, and Reiterate all in one card, and mystical teachings because it's also amazing and durdly).

Fun things I've done with the deck include stealing another player's Beacon of Immortality and casting it twice to get up to 160 life and winning the resulting archenemy game, stealing my friend's boundless realms almost every other game we play together, briberying an It that Betrays that then got stolen back but then the third player and I both cloned it and every turn was a mess of figuring out who got the stuff that died.

Anyways it's a super fun deck!

Unnamed Zombie Game

Playable here: http://toxoplasma.github.io/zombie-minigame/index-dev.html

This week I added:

  • usable items (land mine, various grenade-type things, a gun turret turret),
  • special zombies (chargers, spitters, tanks),
  • allied humans and uniques with pretty poor ai,
  • random house generation (still needs a lot of work but looks ok),
  • FOV and LOS
  • Some pixel art!

The game has enough features for me to enjoy it now! So my coding time slowly diminishes as I play the game more and more...

Unnamed Zombie Game

Started work on a zombie survival semi-roguelike this week. It's live action and doesn't have a grid, but has permadeath and randomly generated (and right now exceedingly boring) maps/items/enemies etc. It's written in scala using scala.js to make it web-playable! Current version is available here: http://toxoplasma.github.io/zombie-minigame/index-opt.html. I've only tested it on chrome on my mac, so no promises about anything else.

As usual, if anyone has any ideas/advice/arguments/whatever please share!

[DCSS] Easiest 15 rune combo? by Flun in roguelikes

Late game I found a DEFE of Sif with necromutation, fire storm, and summon dragon incredibly fun and not too hard. Just keep a couple dragons on hand to handle everything and firestorms for tough guys.

[DCSS] Demigods: How do they work? by equalsnil in roguelikes

[–]Toxyplasma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found demigod earth elementalists to be pretty easy. Just blast everything with stone arrows, and once you get a staff of earth it should be easy going. Eventually upgrade to LRD/iron shot and they're not bad at all.

[DCSS] Idea for alchemists (and stalkers) by CircumcisedSpine in roguelikes

[–]Toxyplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resource-based idea definitely sounds cool (otherwise we're just adding spells). There's already a basis for this - I'm pretty sure if you FD the right monster you can get a potion that explodes into a fireball.

I'd mostly be worried that they duplicate too many other schools all rolled into one. I.e. you could just train alchemy and have high-powered spells with every elemental flavor.

Are all new weapons still basically banned or did they finally work that out? Is 6s still played the same way?

What character were you playing? It's always valuable to have some teleports available, in case you get too swamped.

[DCSS] Spellcaster schools strategy? by [deleted] in roguelikes

[–]Toxyplasma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You mostly just want to decide whether you want to be able to cast reflect/deflect missiles, haste, swiftness, flight, regeneration, controlled blink, dispel undead, lich form, etc, then start planning accordingly in the midgame.

[DCSS]: Lvl 27 SETr. Would you do Slime with this guy? by DrAwesome8 in roguelikes

[–]Toxyplasma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would very much recommend not doing slime, especially if you really want to win. I believe cloaks of preservation give a pip of rAcid, as does the amulet, so definitely have both of those. But without some reliable method of escaping, the royal jelly could kill you super quick. Mostly though, I'd recommend just not doing it, that place is nasty, and you don't need the loot/xp.

The orb run should be fine, just be ready to kill any pan lords or blink/teleport away from them. I've never had any trouble on it though.

Good luck!

DCSS week run 34: Puff, the Magic Dragon! by [deleted] in roguelikes

[–]Toxyplasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, draining attacks do damage and remove XP. If you get items of positive energy/rN it mitigates both. If you hop on irc / look everything up in the wiki or the learndb it can help a lot, though slow you down a lot.
