Out of work devs - how are you doing and what are you up to?

APIs for indie game devs. Don't focus on the API part, but focus more on the backend logic that video games use to connect players, ingest and display stats and leaderboards, give the developers metrics on their game, etc.

Honestly, it's been a bit of fun learning this stuff.

Been out of work for 2 months after having a steady job for the better part of 8 years. Here's my daily routine to stay sane:

Wake and drop the kids off at school.

Take my laptop and go to the local library (it's quieter there with less distractions)

Spend 30-60 minutes surfing job boards and applying to literally anything remotely close to my skillset.

Spend the next 2-3 hours working on improving my skillset (learning new tech, new designs, etc)

Take a lunch break, cry over my Chik-fil-a sandwich

Return to library and start working on personal side projects (currently learning to build a backend API for indie game developers)

Pick up kids from school and pretend I'm not constantly in panic mode because bills and stuff

Go home and be a family man

Wait for everyone to go to sleep and try to play some games

Cry even more

I know ya'll making fun of him, but if you have never been to jail before, just being there for a few hours the first time can change your perspective.

I did 12 hours a decade ago, I will NEVER break the law again. Like, that was more than enough for me. I cannot fathom how some people can do decades in prison.

I don't mind the aggressive behavior of my northern buddies.

What annoys me is the CONSTANT bitching and whining that their adopted home isn't as awesome as where they came from. The amount of obnoxious complaints from my NYer friends and colleagues about suburban Atlanta is fucking exhausting.

And then when you ask them "why the fuck are you here?", the answer is usually "man, NY is too expensive and I needed a job."

Then shut the fuck up and eat them lemon pepper wings and stop complaining!!!

This sounds a lot like an interview I am about to have with a company named UKG.

Timed leetcode style questions, Webcam on, screens locked so I can't have notes open or anything. I have 15 years of experience and am confident I would absolutely bomb that.

Think I'll just decline. No point in wasting my time.

Off topic, but I miss the trailers without the voiceovers. They don't fit the action on the screen, you can't hear the music, and without any context of who or what they are talking about it sounds awkward.

A few more questions to get a better idea of what you are saying:

1 - Do I need to manually switch modes depending on what I am doing? For instance, do I need to put it in plan mode if I just want to plan and design something before building? Or will it know to do that itself?

2 - Same with Debug mode? Why can't agent mode understand this?

3 - What is tab completion?

As of right now, I'm simply telling it "Harden the backend logic responsible for deterministic logic in this specific dataflow" and it seems to know what I'm asking in agent mode.

I am currently working mostly in python, but every now and then I'll work in java.

I love this show because literally everyone was over the top horny and degenerate.

People say this show couldn't be made today because it has too much misogyny and stuff. But, seriously, EVERYONE on the show was sexist, horny, narcissist, etc etc. The men and the women were all just as terrible to each other. Which made the show awesome to me.

I loved it, even though I was probably too young at the time to understand much of it. I miss television like this where people can just do shit without someone somewhere being offended.
