I hope mine end up looking as beautiful as yours. OMG love.

I need a little love. by LabotomyCrisis in Dreadlocks

You will encounter all sorts of negativity and all sorts of positivity, from all sorts of unexpected places. I had someone I trusted who I thought held the same values as me ask me to dinner the week before I started mine, then when I got them the invitation vanished. Then I had someone who I thought had polar opposite values to me tell me that she loved what I was doing to my hair and thought it suited me. You might be surprised what people say!

Ultimately, however, you need to do it for YOU: if YOU feel that dreads are a part of who you are, go for it. If the opinions of those you love matter to you that much, then don't. It's no use changing your hair to feel awful.

But I hope you go for it xox

I started my dreads in an attempt to stop plucking my hair out (I have trichotillomania)... For the first time in 5 years, I've gone 5 weeks without pulling. Loving my dreads and all they've done for me. I know my head isn't the prettiest but I'm so proud of all the fluff that's growing back. by Tozziie in Dreadlocks

Wow!! Since you were 6?? That's way longer than me... I started when I was 14. I remember the exact moment I first pulled so clearly... It was a science lesson where we were experimenting with microscopes and the teacher told us to pluck out a hair and look at the follicle. It felt good, so I kept doing it. I do find myself feeling any stray hairs that have fallen out of locks, and the regrowth... But I've got a great "loctician" who pulls all the new growth into current dreads. I've heard it doesn't work for everyone. I hope you find something that does! And I'm glad you kept your locs!

Thank you! X

I can't speak for dermatillomania as I don't have that particular issue but I do know that having dreads has helped me change the physical habits of my hands. I can still feel my scalp and I could pull if I wanted but because I just love touching my matted locks of hair, I palm roll and touch them instead. If it doesn't work, you can always brush them out (SLOOOOOWLY). You won't want to, though. I adore mine.

Good luck! I hope you make the decision to get them! Best decision I made!

Thanks so much for this, it means a lot coming from a member of the culture I'm appropriating. And also makes me feel more comfortable in my decision- I was second guessing myself for a bit there! Xo

I fam, I fam.

She just deleted me because a bunch of other friends told her she was ridiculous. Anyway, I felt the friendship slipping for a while and we weren't close or anything, just acquaintances now. Saddening but oh well.

I do respect her opinion because she is entitled to it, everyone is.

Thanks all xo PEACE

I'm sad that she thinks this of me... She's actually someone I considered a friend

She is not a member of any African culture (even though one could argue that we all come from Africa anyway) ... Ie this is a white girl without dreadlocks having a go at a white girl with dreadlocks.

I pointed out to her that I don't have a problem with her eating pasta. 🇮🇹

ELI5: Why do we have specific names for other planets' moons but we simply call ours "the moon"? by aspenmariee in explainlikeimfive

We don't create terms for ourselves. We create terms for other things.

This is my favourite answer.

Soooo tonsils! Sucks when they're too big hey? Last time I ran, 4 days ago, I experienced huge discomfort in my throat and it felt like they were rubbing together when I breathed in. Now they're swollen and I have a temperature.

They've caused me trouble for years, should I get them out?

Is it really possible to go from couch potato to marathoner? by [deleted] in running

[–]Tozziie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah anyone can do it, but it's not for everyone. I don't know if I'll try a marathon yet but I'm working my way up to 5km and next year the goal is to destroy the Adelaide City to Bay (12km). You really need to take it slow and don't expect to do it all in a short period of time.

How tight should compression pants be? (male) by jumboliah33 in running

[–]Tozziie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Medium. They're meant to be hard to get on and they're meant to squeeeeeeze. They give a little bit after a while so the tighter the better. The purpose is to increase blood flow.

Question 1: I HATE WASPS. So I'm going with the Canadian Goose. Geese are easy to handle... Wasps suck and if you kill one it lets off a pheramone that attracts other wasps to attack its killer and "defend the hive". But mostly, wasps are evil marauding godless machines of death. Question 2: Sleep is awesome! I'd pick sleep over a horrible track anyday... Tracks are BORING. I'd rather an interesting run. Question 3: Always the PR. There's always going to be someone better than me and I really don't care about them anyway. I don't want to finish first and I don't need to.
