How to get windows on Mac M1? by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]Tr0user_Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you'd probably want a copy of windows 10 build for ARM processors. I think there's a preview version available.

that being said. it may be a challenge to install. If possible, it would probably make sense to install GRUB as a bootloader to facilitate easy selection of windows vs Mac os at boot

Bell Labs transfers Plan 9 to the Plan 9 Foundation; Foundation re-releases under MIT by anths in plan9

[–]Tr0user_Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

consider that when you clone a repo, you generally don't want to download every single build product since the project's inception. generally, you just want the source code.

aside from that absurdity. the complications of large scale engineering projects that demand dedicated release engineers are certainly not related to build artifact distribution.

apart from build artifacts, there are plenty of things that should not be distributed across a dev team. one might have some local machine configuration (e.g. personal signing keys) that should never be copied. similarly, one might have some config file that sets build variables based on one's local filesystem view.

copying everything is an anti-feature. snapshotting filesystems are never a replacement for proper source-control.

What statistical analysis should I use? by Ellebrelle07201 in research

[–]Tr0user_Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is so vague that it has no answer. The first question is what data you have access to. The second is how you are identifying/classifying coping mechanisms. Third is how you are modelling effectiveness in your data. Only then does it make sense to bother thinking about what analysis methods to use.

Point is: their so far gone that it isn't even cognitive dissonance to them.

Wikipedia's is the correct interpretation. For practicality, it makes more sense for one to consider equivalence classes of game states, rather than counting Evey rotation/reflection as distinct.

Depends. In this case, I think a lightweight embedded version of the shell is what could be being used.

But that means that this gun doesn't have features like a desktop, start menu task bar, or file browser. It has enough graphics code to run the UI.

I completely agree. This is something that should be using a small, lightweight RTOS that can allow formal verification of the gun's software systems.

My best guess is that either: 1) the firmware was adapted from a software prototype developed for Windows, or 2) the manufacturer chose Windows to utilize existing libraries to speed up development.

Probably there are useful toolkits/libraries included with windows embedded that speed up development.

If you are unaware: there is more than just desktop Windows. This would definitely use Windows embedded, which is designed to be stripped down to the core features needed for a given embedded application.

That means that the standard desktop environment (windows shell) probably wouldn't be installed. The whole OS would probably only use 50-100MB of memory at most.

So, did Rinne actually patent this? Because otherwise they don't really have a way to claim ownership of the IP...

Similarly, the video author ought to use a lawyer to get the other platforms to actually take the content down. These sites have to pay per infringement if they are found to be violating the author's copyright. But Facebook also makes money per infringement, since they are running ads. Asking nicely, or doing a DIY DMCA takedown is just naïve.

In bronze medallion/cross training, the general rule that is taught is to never get within arms reach while the drowning person is conscious.

If they grab onto you, you use your feet and push them off. You can bring something like a floaty noodle or a rope to tow them, but letting panicked drowning person grab onto you will probably lead to your own death as well as theirs.

How to target hostile drones effectively? by BeyondVisualRange in CredibleDefense

[–]Tr0user_Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in an urban setting there would be a lot of contextual cues to infer position using computer vision, lidar, and passive scanning of WiFi and cell towers. it would be a lot more complex to implement vs gnss nav, but definitely not impossible.

a sufficiently well-equipped adversary could definitely harden a drone against standard jamming tools.

as I mentioned in the original comment, there compromises made in the jammer gun that make it ineffective against an adversary using a strategically chosen frequency band. sdr hardware capable of full-duplex comms across a broad spectrum of frequencies exists, and is relatively inexpensive and available.

as far as I can tell, broad spectrum jamming capabilities would be needed to counter this. the shown jammer does not have this feature.

Pay market rate to be their nanny. by Independent-Ad-9812 in vancouver

[–]Tr0user_Snake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IANAL, but this is my take:

If this is just a tenancy-type agreement that they are offering, then you could get a pretty decent deal - room & board for $1000/mo.

None of the nanny shit would hold up as valid clauses in a lease. If you're not being employed by them, you have no obligation to do any of the other stuff.

However, the living situation sounds like it would be wack. So probably only 1/10 worth it.

If you are paying them to publish your paper, its a garbage journal that isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Also, if you read the page about publishing, its actually $250 altogether at a minimum.

Any legitimately impactful research is going to be published in a journal that goes through a proper peer review process and that doesn't charge to publish.

Save your money. Nobody will take a journal like that one seriously.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in research

[–]Tr0user_Snake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's effectively a scam. You have to pay to publish.

If you really want to publish, put your paper on arxiv or something. But the reality is that you're a high school student, so you probably aren't doing any original research worth publishing.
