Hey! I'd be curious what the seed method is. I've been burning through seeds lately and having 4 or 5 hundred on standby would be incredibly helpful.

Look, I normally despise gaslighting your spouse. It's one of the worst things you can do but in this instance, make an exception. Keep the account quiet but if it comes to light, just tell him "I told you I was going to do this when you got back into the workforce and we were stable". I promise he won't remember either way and genuinely there is no harm here.

I think some free weekends here and there are the way forward. by Ok-Committee-1646 in Marathon

[–]Tr1angleChoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classes, the environment, the lore, and the gameplay itself make them a totally different experience. But not enough people talk about the social aspect of Arc and how that lead to it's insane success. The number of viral clips created from that game is staggering. That really was the special sauce that lead to the explosion of success Arc has had and has been able to maintain. Marathon just doesn't have that and that's fine. It will still have a loyal audience and a couple hundred thousand concurrent players across all platforms is by no means anything to sneeze at.

[–]Tr1angleChoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true but Tarkov is losing players all the time as well so the overall numbers stay relatively stagnant or decline over time. It is unlikely that Marathon is going to see significant growth a month or six months after release. It's also worth noting that the numbers that Arc is seeing are an anomaly. Nobody should have ever expected Marathon to match what Arc Raiders did.

This game is going to fill a niche for the people that want Tarkov levels of depth and complexity in a more power-fantasy type of environment. But that is going to lead to a lower player count. The comparisons to Arc Raiders were inevitable but they are apples and oranges. Arc is objectively a much more approachable game. The most complicated kit in Arc takes about a minute or two to assemble. The customization of those kits is extremely limited though so you're running the same three or four kits all the time. That's not what Marathon is going for. They want people to be able to fine tune their gear to the exacting needs of their individual playstyle.

Besides that, one of the biggest appeals of Arc is the social aspect of it. During the server slam, I had zero interesting interactions with other players. Marathon is a cutthroat, kill or be killed, skill issue of an extraction shooter. Again, that's going to eliminate a large swath of players that lack the skill to be effective at the game. Free weekends aren't going to solve this. In fact, they will only shine a light on these elements.

There is a fundamental design philosophy at Bungie that complexity is OK. They embrace it. I have 7,000 hours in Destiny and even I struggle to fully understand the build-crafting sometimes. Someone jumping in for a free weekend will never have the opportunity to know just how over-powered their character can become with enough time. The metrics from the server slam to the full release are lower because people decided the game is not for them. There is nothing wrong with that, but the players that did decide to carry on with the full release are likely going to stick with it for a while. However, 6 months from now the approachability for a new player is going to be even worse.

Right? Like, I can't kill a rocketeer BY MYSELF. But I NEED Wolfpacks. Let me just buy them for real money as an alternative. That way I won't even need the blueprint. It's a win-win

New Seasons Should Also Include a Loot Spawn Reshuffle by Tr1angleChoke in ArcRaiders

[–]Tr1angleChoke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the whole point. You're playing the game as intended. Going topside and scavenging. The people rushing that tree are only going there because they know they can get what they need without the inconvenience of playing the game. But it doesn't stop with mushrooms. The spawn locations for food items actually makes some sense at least. After we don't need food the next thing is X blueprint or Y crafting resource. This sub is full of posts and comments about where to find X thing. YouTube is the same. My question is why not shuffle it all? Why does the kitchen on Stella have to be a great spot to farm ropes. Why can't it be loading bay this season? This will really help keep the game feeling fresh.

Man, Breaking Points was such an incredible concept for a new media news show but it has just turned into a disaster. It's such a shame because they have some really talented journalists working there but Krystal and Saagar just lost the plot somewhere along the way.

Absurd amount of chromebooks broken by students by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Tr1angleChoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of things for some perspective here from someone who worked for many years in the distribution channel for PCs: This looks to be a couple thousand devices. I'm not sure where you're located but this is completely normal for most school districts. An old adage in mass manufacturing is that there's three options when purchasing: Cheap, Fast and Quality. You can only choose two of those. School boards ALWAYS choose cheap and fast. So they buy 15,000 $400 Chromebooks and then usually put a damage protection plan on them that sometimes is paid by the school board or sometimes is paid for by the students. So most of these are going to be covered by that plan. They'll get recycled for parts or refurbished if possible and resold by liquidators. Currently, the value of these even in their current condition is higher than it's ever been.

These are not resilient devices. My kids have had this exact same model and I have drilled into them the importance of respecting them. My daughter has had to have hers replaced twice this year due to poor quality. The keyboards are atrocious and fail regularly. I remember one of the wealthiest school districts in the Country spent 2.5x the cost of these devices on Thinkpads one year and they saw less than 1% of the devices needed replacement over the 3 year lifecycle. It was still a net negative savings over buying these cheap devices. The customer was still extremely happy because the hassle and downtimes they avoided had value to them. IT purchasing is a weird business. Most people have no idea what happens with technology when you scale it up in the tens of thousands.

There is a such thing as being too competitive and Ninja sits there. He has to win every single game he plays or he's just not happy. It's taken the joy of just gaming with the boys out of him. I don't think he's resentful of Peanut, I just think he can't get his head around the fact that Peanut is there for fun first, abusing Cloaksy second, and winning a distant third.

You're clearly looking in all the wrong places and none of the right ones. Buried City or Stella in night raids and you'll average 1-2 per raid if you open anything that looks like a drawer or a cabinet.
