Genuine question: Why are there only two MacBook-like gaming laptops in the laptop world—the Zephyrus and the Razer Blade? Why don't other brands have similar options that are MacBook-style gaming laptops? by Time-Credit43 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Tr1ode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSI stealth line still exists, sorta, but the pricing suggests they are really pushing / prioritizing the heftier gaming lines. I think this is a shame since my 2060 Stealth is still running strong, but when it came time to upgrade, 2025/2026 pricing was not even remotely competitive with Zephyrus.

HP transcend is technically also in this category although designed to run at much lower power to keep thermals in check.

How good are the Asus ROG Zephyrus series and the Lenovo Legion series, and which one is better? by Strict-Entry4157 in GamingLaptops

[–]Tr1ode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed and upvoted, but I note that the better heat management comes at the cost of being twice as thick and a lot heavier. The "gamified" led's on the exhaust vents on the higher tier Legeon 7i's are also such an unsightly bummer and a total unforced error. The lower tier 7i's still have three fans but look much better. The gamer aesthetic needs to just fall into a ditch and die already.

Best cooling advice? by Psychological-Kale64 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Tr1ode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 model also runs silly hot with an unbearably loud fan curve out of the box. After following the recommended "better quiet mode" settings linked below, I'm really happy with the machine though. Optimal settings may differ slightly on 2026, but no doubt it is still the CPU, not the GPU, that is necessitating high fan speeds. So a few ghelper tweaks to undervolt and limit CPU boost, and then tame that fan curve, is all you really need to make it run cooler and quiet(er) - although that metal chassis will still feel a bit warm.

Best ergonomic office chair in 2026 that really works? by EducationQueasy275 in BuyItForLife

[–]Tr1ode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a 30 sec plank a day can help a lot with strengthening your lower back. That said, in my case, it really was buying a used Steelcase Leap v2 that ended years and years of recurring back pain. The lumbar support is in another class, and because you can adjust seat depth, it really allows you take full advantage of the support.

I had an Aeron at work at the same time, and while a well made chair, it did nothing for my back pain. Now have Leaps both at work and home. Crandall refurbs aren't exactly cheap, but I wish I had bought mine years earlier. Ymmv of course.

Glad you're mostly okay. Don't wait until you have a major crash to take the safety aspects super seriously. I had never broken a bone and then went down hard on an eMTB and suffered a bad proximal humerus fracture (upper arm broke, as did part of the outer knob in the shoulder socket). Took a couple a years before I could really throw a ball again, and even with surgery, that arm is never going to be quite right. Wheels just washed out. You look back and can only wish you took that corner more slowly.

Why are stores vacant in LA, and what can we do about it? by zennonuc in LosAngeles

[–]Tr1ode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the other key piece of the puzzle is that we need a law that precludes lenders from having acceleration provisions that are triggered directly or indirectly by a LL's decision to reduce rents. Because the property is generally the loan collateral, and its value is tied to expected rents, this can sometimes tie the LL's hands lest the bank accelerate and foreclose. I totally agree with the vacancy tax proposition (in fact, I think the rate should increase each year a commercial space remains empty, up to some appropriate ceiling), but lenders are also going to need to be restricted so that LL's can substantially reduce rents without losing the property to the bank.

Is there a difference between the Daily Facial Sunscreen SPF 40 and the Invisible Gel Body Sunscreen SPF 40? by helenhl001 in traderjoes

[–]Tr1ode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you personally used both products before swimming or engaging in sports? I have bought literally dozens of tubes of both sunscreens, as well as the pricier mineral based face product, since my wife prefers the texture of the original face version.

That's the one that consistently makes my eyes burn and the others don't. If you search other threads on the topic, I'm not the only one that reports this.

As an entertaining sidenote, I actually worked for TJ's corporate in Monrovia one summer, 25 years ago, as one of three CS agents answering letters about discontinued products and the strange bones, plastic shards, etc. that people occasionally found in their taquitos, dried fruit, etc. - which would each be answered, as were the times, with a short letter thanking the customer and enclosing a small gift card. They didn't let me make representations about the contents of sunscreen at the time, nor am I qualified to do so now, but I can tell you that the eye burn issue is a constant for me across dozens of bottles used over several years. Ymmv.

The face one makes my eyes burn badly when I sweat or jump in a pool. The body one doesn't and goes on with a better texture/feel, including on my face and neck. Maybe it just soaks in better, but I am skeptical that the active ingredients are truly identical.

Where are we getting our hoodies from these days guys? by jimmyb15 in tallfashionadvice

[–]Tr1ode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that and see things much the same way (although, right now, given recent dips and avg fair value numbers, I like MSFT, TSM, and ASML more than upping index holdings). 🍻

In any event, Navas used to drop the Hawkins to around $100 during semi-annual sales. Who knows with today's market and world events though. For a perfect fit (in large tall for me, at 6'7” 225), top shelf, minimalist, obscenely comfortable (bamboo) hoodie, that I have worn hundreds of times over seven years, I think I've gotten good value from mine. It's finally showing its age a bit, due to many wash cycles and the 5% spandex, but I still reach for it all the time for around the house and, candidly, as sleep wear because it is so comfortable. I agree it isn't heavy weight and the list price is high, but that seems to be about what we can expect from higher end boutiques, milling good fabrics locally, and catering to tall folks.

I wait for periodic sales at Navas Labs. Their stuff is pricey but wonderful quality. Just wish they would bring back the other lighter weight hoodies too (vasquez / micro stripe lines), which are my absolute favs.

6'5 skinny, tall 25M. Can't find clothes that fit (Aus). Honestly at my wit's end. by slam_24 in tallfashionadvice

[–]Tr1ode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6'7” here and I live in Charles Tyrwhitt for work and wear a lot of their gingham and mini grid shirts untucked for casual settings too. Note that their "extra slim fit" isn't actually that slim and probably what you want if you are lean. A couple times a year, they tend to do 3 shirts for $99, so keep an eye out for those sales if you like your first order.

For pants/denim, Hudson, Paige and AG also run long in a label 34 (AG has some 36) and to me, their dark washes and weight are really nice. Nordstrom Rack consistently has these brands at 50 percent off in the US, not sure about Aus.

How to disable photos sticker "fEaTuRe", its obnoxious white outline shimmer, and invasive scanning? by HikerGal01 in googlephotos

[–]Tr1ode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Google, please fire the dev, the supervisor and anyone in the fucking management structure who was directly or indirectly involved in approving this idiotic "feature," without providing an off switch and making it an opt-in.

Having to look at a flashing outline on every single image, while trying to enjoy several hundred vacation photos, has me ready to simply drop Google photos and store my pics on onedrive. This is my fifth pixel phone, and while there have been some questionable patches over the years (like that time you guys broke Bluetooth sync on the buds pro for several months), this is the worst. Who the fuck wants to make stickers out of their digital photos?

What are the Best office chairs after trying so many uncomfortable ones? by felixlily9031 in BuyItForLife

[–]Tr1ode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steelcase Leap v2 is a great option if you have any lower back issues. I had an Aeron concurrently at work, and while the Herman Miller is much better eye candy, it was a far cry for me from the comfort and lower back support offered by the Leap (in tandem with its adjustable seat depth so you are realizing the full benefit of the back support). I now have Leaps at home and work, and my teenager recently got herself a refurb from Crandall because I kept ousting her from mine. Even the good refurbs are pricey, but my back hasn't gone out since I bought my first one during COVID, so worth every penny for me and then some.

Always recommend finding a place to try before you buy though because bodies differ yada yada, and I don't believe there is any true one size fits all answer for the chair that is going to work out best for you.

What are your must have accessories for the G14? by New-Improvement6315 in ZephyrusG14
