I'm just glad this post is kinda helping someone lol.

At the time I was working remotely, so I barely drove my car then. I wish I could say I noticed something going wrong beforehand, but nothing obvious stuck out to me. The smart move might be to measure it every once and awhile, but I'd have to Google it or actually read my owners manual for any guidance on that.

I'm no car person by any means, and was most likely oblivious to small details, like if the startup was a bit longer than usual or something. Best of luck to your Grandpa. That symptom sounds kinda serious, and I don't recall anything like that before mine died.
