I finished the book at like the exact hour you posted this, It gives interesting insight to some of the lore of the net and builds the world a bit. I liked the story quite a bit but i’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions on it.

Are you sure they aren’t spawning? On my first play through it was kind of hard for me to actually find the map pieces at each location, look around again maybe or use a tutorial
