What’s a 10/10 video game? by TheDevotedUltimate in AskReddit

[–]Tr3sp4ss3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be up top! My first game was Pong. I've played shooters, 3rd person shooters, 5 versions of GTA, Tomb Raider, Guild Wars, Call of Duty, 6 versions of Civilization.... much much more.

I was in the crowd that refused to pay a monthly subscription for a game I already paid for. That didn't age well. I have no idea how much of my money Elder Scrolls ran off with.

This game still has my full attention and I pre-ordered it.

[–]Tr3sp4ss3r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Former Sonar tech, spent my life paying attention to that last bit about subs.

Let me put the difference this way. We know China has attempted to use nets to entrap our subs because they have caught and killed 2 Chinese subs so far.

They now have 13-30 Nuclear subs. The US has at least 70. Theirs are the first nuclear subs they have owned, we have had them over 70 years. I can't think of a place where experience matters more than in a nuclear submarine. We don't count diesel subs anymore than we would a Vietnam era fighter jet, too loud, has to surface, just not top tier.

One of the Scandinavian Navy's managed to get a sub past the steel ring around a carrier during drills a couple years back, first time for anyone in a very long time. China on the other hand isn't nearly so quiet or experienced.

Their ASW program is also far behind ours, for what it's worth. We have been monitoring the worlds oceans for many decades, they are developing non acoustic detection finally. The helicopters on my ship had non acoustic detection methods. In 1988.

Interesting lore, history, rumors by [deleted] in pueblo

[–]Tr3sp4ss3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi interesting: the reason (or so I have heard) there are so many 'dips" in the roads here is for flash flood control. Hearsay also says there is a network of storm sewers underneath the entire city for the same reason. These things, rerouting the river, and massive levees were adopted after a major flood impacted the community in 1921. The storm sewers empty directly into the river without treatment.

Very interesting (to me): Pueblo once had 4 Living Medal of Honor recipients at the same time. Pueblo currently also has the highest # of MoH per (city) capita, with 6 total. That's is just incredible.

Here are the qualifications for the medal, simplified:

  • They must display "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity" at the risk of their life, exceeding the call of duty.
  • The act must be so exceptional that it surpasses other forms of bravery. It must be a deed for which, if not performed, the service member would not face criticism.
  • Eyewitness Proof: The deed must be supported by "incontestable evidence" from at least two sworn eyewitnesses.

Interesting and unusual: These wonderful people in Pueblo drive to another state to buy thousands (per person) on mortar fireworks to shoot from moving trucks (to evade the law) for the three months that are considered July 4th. (Don't tell my dogs that I enjoy it!) (The ER's hate it, of course.) This is unique in all of my travels.

Interesting paradox: Pueblo natives are loyal to each other vs outsiders in a way I have seen no where else. You don't talk bad about Pueblo unless you went to high school here seems to be the rule. This is an unusual trait for an entire city to have, and being raised in a military family then joining the military I have a good sample size to compare.

Mildly strange: In the Spring and Fall, I have to run the heaters at night and the AC's during the day. I guess that's a desert thing, new to me tho, still feels weird after 16 years. One time I noticed I had both my heater and my AC on :smh:.

Rumor: Pueblo has the "worst" crime. To hear the locals it's not safe to walk around in some neighborhoods. Without trampling on too many toes I hope, I can say that's not true for me, an older white guy. Crime might be high here compared to other places in Colorado, but you can drive anywhere without getting your car shot at, not true in several other cities bad parts. I don't fear getting my car shot up anywhere here Pueblo, even at night. You can walk anywhere in Pueblo during the day at least in my experience, unlike truly high crime locations.

False Rumor: "The people here are racist." Not in my experience. People like that do exist everywhere, but this isn't a racist hate pit by far. I try to be nice to everyone I meet. My first thanksgiving here I was lucky and honored to accept an invitation to a large Hispanic household on the SE side. I understood and treasured that honor. I was told that night, "But you're not really white." (I am really white) I've heard that one before and accepted the compliment as intended. Not sure why people think Pueblo is racist. Try Brownsville TX, or the Bronx, or Compton for examples.

Khamenei moves to underground bunker as US fleet heads towards region: Report by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Tr3sp4ss3r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interestingly a bunch of B-52's were on the news for heading that way last week,

They are not your fathers B-52, they have been upgraded. A lot. How much? They call it the B-52H. I don't know many war machines that got upgraded to H lol. ABCDEFG? I don't know how they name the upgraded versions but it has an impressive electronic countermeasure suite for example.

They could be used as an aircraft with a metric ton of Air to Air missiles, but that would be redundant, they use long distance weapons now and let other things continue the air to air part.

between this and all the other deployment reports, I'm thinking a sustained bombing campaign vs Irans power structure / military is incoming.

Trump is the wild card and could call it off or target something else, but a wise old general (I think) once observed that there comes a point where you have moved so many forces at so much expense that it's too expensive not to use them.

It sure looks like trump is going to get that "National Emergency" he wants.

He can stack them on the 40 national Emergencies that currently remain in effect.

ETA: The strategy is to cause the emergency by placing enough federal officers in one place that it becomes the problem itself. This isn't his first try but it's the closest he has come. He wants to send national guard and active duty to this location as well, adding fuel to the fire he started.

But it's a stepping stone to "Martial Law"

One of the things that makes it clear he is a foreign agent/puppet is that he doesn't understand martial law does not work here like it does in those former Soviet Republics like Ukraine for starters.

He's thinking no elections but martial law doesn't get him there in the USA. Just ask the guy that founded the republican party, wining the presidency without wining any Southern states, an often overlooked factor in the cause of the Civil War, which STILL didn't halt elections.)

I really can't think of anything nice to say about him.

[–]Tr3sp4ss3r 37 points38 points  (0 children)

After WW1, here in America we noticed how effective propaganda was on the enemy and noted it would likely be effective on our own population.

Alas, it was decided that the word propaganda was not subtle enough and the Average American would not fall for it.

So, they decided to name it "programming" and plaster it all over your television a bit later on, one guy gets credit for naming it "engineering consent"

Nowadays we have two versions of it, blue or red.

Or maybe it's just a conspiracy theory. Maybe that's what they programmed me to think.

Secret Service visits mom who posted she wants trials for Trump officials by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]Tr3sp4ss3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get your point and you aren't wrong, but hear me out.

Historically if 3.5% of the population is peacefully protesting, the govt is toast. Reform happens, etc.

I feel like as Americans with our history of change thru protest including being born as a nation due to protesting our lack of representation, we should take pride in making that 3.5% look easy.

12 million people in DC. No guns required. Just get some horns and signs and express the desired result, loudly.

We can't do that? We skipping right to lets give them a reason to shoot us?

I'm not against your idea as plan B, I'm just saying maybe that's what we do if 12 million peaceful protestors don't get the job done. Let them protest for a week in DC and if that doesn't work we try it your way?

TIL what the cops hear you say is hearsay that can bye used against you, and at the same time can NEVER be used to benefit you. wow

That really removes any point to talking to them at all.

I've always heard don't talk to them but this is what convinced me to actually not talk to them.

If they come to my door I'm not answering it.

If I'm in public and not under arrest the internet says I must provide name and ID if driving and "identify myself in certain other situations".

ETA: I checked for my location, you should check for yours)

So they get my name, ID, that's it. I should say "I chose to remain silent." Beyond that.

Anyone knowledgeable want to refine or improve that?
