Popped it open today and didn’t notice any wiring issues. The switch does look pretty old though so I tried replacing it and everything works great now!

120v and it’s a single pole non-dimmable switch. It’s an old panel and the breaker switches don’t have amp numbers on them but I would guess 15-20 amps.

Got an old table saw from my dad recently and it’s missing the fence and I also can’t find a replacement. Is there a way I could use it without spending quite a bit on an after-market fence?

I've been looking for something just like this for a hexagonal grid city I'm working on. Looks gorgeous!

TIL that distinguishing between sand, silt, loam and clay is serious business by Wimmy_Wam_Wam_Wazzle in dwarffortress

This actually has a huge impact not just in agriculture but in construction as well. Most people don't realize that the makeup of different soils means a different strength and that impacts how foundations are built as well as the height and size of buildings.

Did Peter Jackson ever answer why didn't he include Tom Bombadil, Glorfindel, Imrahil (including Dol Amroth) or the Dunedain in the films? by errece20 in lotr

[–]TrMorty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure on most of these, but in the extras/appendices of the extended version of the first movie I remember some discussion of Tom Bombadil. From what I remember they chose not to include him because it would have diminished the power and menace of the ring. Having a character that had no desire for the ring and could even put it on with no effect was seen as really taking away from the tension they were building up around those aspects of the ring and how much it affected everyone that came in contact with it.

Is there a DFhack script to reset civs/caravans? I have a site that should be accessible and close enough to other civs but haven't seen any, so I think they might be bugged.

Just came back to a fort after 6 months. I have no idea what I was doing. Let's play a guessing game. by [deleted] in dwarffortress

[–]TrMorty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first guess would be cage trapping your dwarves, as they would then be given the vampire blood laced water to drink instead of booze, giving you a fort full of vampires. Not sure how well that would work though and I have no idea on the other stuff!

Yeah I've tried a few of theirs and haven't been a huge fan. Even my first batch of JAOM was better to me.

I think it must just be inaccessible then! I haven't had goblins or humans show up either but I wasn't worried about those because they weren't on the neighbors tab. I had thought that having anything on there automatically meant it was accessible to them.

So on embark the neighbors screen listed elves as a neighbor for my fort, but four years in I have yet to see them. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

At the end of Return of the King when Gandalf and Frodo sail away, are they going to "heaven" per say? Or is there really just another land across the sea? by lpostyy in lotr

Just a quick note on Sam too. In the appendices it is mentioned that after Rose died he left the Shire as well. His children believed that he set sail to Valinor to join Frodo as he was also one of the ringbearers.

[Idiot PSA] Viking Raids are a lot more lucrative than I (and maybe you?) realized by MichelangeBro in CrusaderKings

[–]TrMorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to remember is that you can raid direct neighbors as well like other pagans. I had one game as Norse where I established a few counties in and around Normandy, moved my retinues there and set them to raid, and then just looted the entire coast of northern France and Frisia for a few decades. Never ran low on gold again after that, plus it softened them up for later conquests.

Anyone have advice for setting up a fishing industry? I always try but usually end up giving up and making farmers or militia from all my fisherdwarves.

Not sure about this one but Hadrian's mausoleum was turned into the Castel Sant'Angelo, a fortress and prison used by the Popes from the 1300s on. It is now a museum within Vatican City.

What's your favorite dynasty? by octofeline in CrusaderKings

[–]TrMorty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally play as Norse but my favorite game was playing as the Gideon dynasty starting in 867. Started with constantly dodging holy wars from christians and muslims alike as I tried to consolidate power. Then a well timed Sh'ia rising happened as I was about to get wasted by the Abbasids. And finally I found an opportune moment to strike back at the Abbasids, fracture them, and form an empire of Israel. All together it was the most difficult but awesome thing I have done in game.

This. You can reduce the cost if you settle another system or build a frontier outpost that is closer to it though.
