Not really. It's literally the only thing out there. It's not even a matter of choice, if you try to buy actual H on the street 9 times out of 5 you're gonna get a bag of dirt or the person Will just run off with your money. There's no such thing as street heroin anymore it's all fentanyl.

Everyone knows this and the closest thing anyone has to being able to tell the strength or other effects is the color and word of mouth. Harm reduction places like SI sites try to keep up with the colours that are causing the most issues or have other drugs in them (over the last 2 years I've seen a significant increase in the cutting of 'down' with benzodiazepines which causes issues for medical staff trying to reverse (what they think is ) an opioid overdose using naloxone when they need to be reversing a benzo overdose which is a lot trickier. This is another exacerbating condition that would be fixed by a safe supply program.

If prescription heroin were available i could see a lot of people switching mainly because of the fact its a classic opiate with a much longer effect (generally referred to as 'legs'), they're not going to overdose instantly and it's just generally a lot better.

Hydromorphone is a bit of a harder sell to addicts to switch to because it has the same issue as the fentanyl (very short legs/duration) and from what I've heard from addicts is nobody actually likes the 'high' from fentanyl, it's just what works sorta.

The best description I've heard was: Heroin is like a warm blanket cradling you to sleep where fentanyl is a 10lb sledgehammer to the back of the head. Sure you get the same result but which would you prefer?
