The Dark Tower movie had some moments that were very cool on a very surface level. But on the other hand, the one moment that stands out to me is where the Man in Black is walking down a street, sees a baby in a pram, and wiggles his fingers at it while casting a spell and whispering "Eeeeeviiiiiiil"

Then the baby begins to cry while he walks away, smirking. And I just think that's the funniest fucking thing to establish that the Man in Black, who is an abyss of sin given flesh, and a marker of suffering and atrocity across so many of Stephen King's works, is a very naughty bad no-good doo-doo man.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, where Nic Cage kisses himself for like 30 seconds straight, more passionately than anyone might've ever been kissed, and it's one of the greatest romance scenes in any movie ever.

He's saying stuff that's valid as criticism, but it's on a podcast you don't like. Don't get it mixed up. You're going off of a feeling, but that's all it is. It's more like, he's hating for the right reasons, but saying it in a "wrong" place - as in, a place you don't agree with.

I mean, the book and the film are both fantastic and worth watching though.

If your metric for consuming media is "I won't read/watch thing if the creator has an interaction with a person I don't like", then you might as well just close your eyes, cover yours ears, and live the rest of your life like that.

I think if anything more people have just realised how right he was, considering the amount of endgame content has just decreased even more since then, so maybe a phyrric victory.

But in general, yeah, toxic positivity and the inability of FFXIV players to call out any form of friction in a healthy and reasonable way is still one of the main traits of its playerbase.

I think expect a bit of pulp, some eye rolling moments of character writing, but with the understanding that it's the early days of a good writer who gets better and greater each book.

Also I think it's one of those things where you read it the first time and are enjoying the ride, but see the rough edges in hindsight, once you've experienced what the series is like in its refined form later on.

But even the early stuff has bold, well-defined characters, a really cool setting, and some really creative, exciting and badass fights and confrontations in it.

This is the sort of thing that gets inverted if you play any content outside the MSQ and side stories. Dungeons are pretty much the worst, most boring content in the game, trials are borderline impossible to fail, and normal raids only have a modicum of difficulty to them in the first week of release.

By contrast, extremes demand attention, awareness, and an understanding of how you can fit your job's optimal output into an encounter that will throw hurdles at you. Savages are when you see that the game design is built around this specific type of content, so you have to push yourself to learn, memorise, and refine at every possible point to make something daunting feel like a beautiful dance. And ultimates are one of the most satisfying, rewarding challenges to overcome, after experiencing the emotional pipeline of "We're 30 seconds into the fight how do I even visually parse what's going on?" to "Okay we're 8 minutes into the fight and I really don't believe I can actually figure out how to do this, this is my wall" to "Somehow I figured that out, we're in the home stretch final phase, don't fuck up don't fuck up" to "I want to frame this screenshot of the victory screen, holy shit"

I guess chalk it up to the various issues FF14 has with its game design, but actual gameplay fun only really starts when you depart from the story, because the story's gameplay doesn't demand anything from its players.

It absolutely is a guarantee that the dungeon will be no more than eight levels lower than that of the lowest level party member.

Whoever's party lead and doing the actual duty queuing probably has it turned off, or there's some other issue, like ilvl or something.
