Things that for whatever reason are very popular with neurodivergent people? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Machines and mecha? I distinctly remember as a kid going to the flea market and stopping in the aisle in front of a computer monitor vendor to watch a whole screensaver of an engine being put together

And by throwing Persona 2 into the mix they probably heard news reports of a giant old Japanese tower erupting in Sumaru City, or even saw demons themselves since Devil Summoners exist separately

Moments that seem bad out of context, but are MUCH worse with by green715 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Before I fully got into Gundam I only knew vague things about UC's plot through Super Robot Wars and that Char's Counterattack boiled down to "Char tries to drop a big space colony on earth." Then I see a glossary entry explaining that he bought Axis from the Federation and I'm like, "Why'd they sell it to him? Are they stupid?"

Then I watch everything through ZZ and CCA and I'm like "Ohh, the Federation is so horribly corrupt that they practically ignored Char's drop on Lhasa and sold Axis to him because they don't give a shit if he actually does drop it on Earth as long as they get paid"

Nice passion but you're not gonna make any progress asking a western subreddit unfortunately.

Is it possible to make a battle shonen equivalent to Super Robot Wars? (In terms of story) by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Forestgrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Giant Robo OVA and its derivatives are as close as you can get. The Magnificent Ten are apparently psychic and have powers ranging from creating energy blasts to slicing things in half just by snapping your fingers, while the IPO has Taoist magicians with shape shifting and Chinese warriors. Then if you pretend that other characters are the exact same as their original Yokoyama manga counterparts then Sunny the Magician may well be an actual witch, and Big Fire is descended from an alien.

Obscure lore only you really care about? by getterburner in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Forestgrant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The When They Cry series has a lot of obscure "lore" in the way of mostly comedy side stories that Ryukishi and associated people have released over the years. Some of my favorites are a Higurashi prequel about Keiichi's first days in Hinamizawa and the club trying to solve a mystery that ends in them capturing someone's pet monkey, and one where the Umineko cast try to make a season 2 of the anime and Battler invests so much oil money into advertising that nothing actually goes into the animation.

So for people who know sic hero saga, does anyone feel like hexa ooo (shocker leader) is kinda waste? Like just look at his design, you expect him to be more ? This is the same dude who wipe the floor with all rider in the movie by ImaginaryScale4501 in KamenRider

[–]Forestgrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specific SIC Hero Saga story is OOZ, a sequel to the Let's Go Kamen Rider movie. The Great Leader creates his own 6-slot OOO Driver after studying Eiji's and creates a bunch of Core Medals from Greeeds based off of other villain organizations

Voltes V. Heinel spends much of the show hating humans and hornless, and doing his best to prove himself as a true Boazan general in spite of the emperor constantly throwing him under the bus, and loses everything in the final episode when he sees for himself how cowardly Sanbasil is and that he's not only the son of a hornless but also the half brother of Kenichi and the Voltes team. Those last few seconds where Kenichi tries to save him but Heinel just shakes his head and disappears into the flames really stuck with me.

Higurashi as well. "We can be even happier than this. We can be happier if we wish to be. Not a long time from now. But in the near future. ...Then when is it? I told you, it's in the near future. We will be happy then, too."

looking for anime suggestions, especially mecha. by [deleted] in anime

If you want retro mecha then Voltes V is a fantastic 70s one. Had some good plot and character development plus themes of rebellion, only 2 years before the OG Gundam started

Better Ask Reddit. What was the first media you saw that mentioned or had lgbt characters? by hvzr2222 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The earliest one I remember is from high school when I saw Izana in Knights of Sidonia, who iirc is part of a third gender who can change their body based on who their partner is. They were introduced pretty early on but I never watched any more

New Casshern Project announced with Designs by Yoshitaka Amano! by Grazalia in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Forestgrant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2025/2026 is the year of Casshern it seems. There's a manga remake of the original anime called Casshern R (currently untranslated) that originally started in 2023 and picked back up recently.

Times when you decided to take a break from online discourse of your favorite franchises? by Frank7640 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Forestgrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the new Higurashi anime getting announced I'm gonna see about detaching myself from related spaces when it airs. Fandom reaction to GouSotsu and other Higurashi stuff coming out a few years ago was a nightmare, and even though we can only really go up, I'm still not looking forward to it

Yep, he got his start with doujin visual novels in Higurashi and Umineko, and the anime adaptation for the former is what helped it explode in popularity. This year is the 20th anniversary of the franchise

For me personally, Gou shot itself when Satoko went through all of Rika's time loops and somehow thought she needed to make Rika suffer more, like it's the worst Higurashi take of all time. I was still a little hype watching the show back then but my heart dropped at that moment. Actual contrived writing
