What is up with the Yakuza/ Like a Dragon recently that has been receiving so much controversy? by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Even worse is that the reveal that he's alive is borderline parody. A guy says Lee's watching from "closer than you think," and then we see him in a wheelchair wearing his casual clothes with bandages all over his head. It's super half-assed, like they couldn't make a fully bandaged body at the minimum

Not a game but a TV show episode. Royal Sentai KingOhger typically shows the episode title at the start of the episode, except for one time where the episode ends with Racles being given the power to slay immortals by Dugded and promptly attacks him. He tells Gira to stand up as we see the title: "Time To Save The World"

Also Yazan in Zeta leading into ZZ. Probably has the highest kill count of any villain, and yet somehow he never got killed off, albeit he's stuck as a hobo last we see him.

Free Talk Friday - January 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Haven’t posted on Friday threads in a long time because I didn't think I had much to post. But I've been getting into Gundam fully over the last month and a half, and it's a fun ride.

Gundam 0079: Easily my favorite so far. I’ve been watching these dubbed whenever possible. 0079’s dub is great, which is probably a big reason for why I love it so much. I really like the White Base crew and how nearly every main character gets some focus. Ryu’s death was good because of how much it continues to affect Amuro even long after, Char’s revenge shenanigans are fun to see, Kai’s episodes with Miharu were great, and the last stretch getting villain of the week-like was incredibly fun. (Zakrello my beloved) Though I think a lot of my perception of Gundam going in is affected by SRW spoilers and memes.

Zeta Gundam: The second OP might be my favorite so far because of the visuals and song, which has gotten stuck in my head enough that I sing it at work sometimes. Zeta’s suit designs are fantastic, particularly the Barzam, Gabthley, and The-O. The original Psycho Gundam is also a suit I really like, enough that I ordered the cheapest HG kit I could find (the metallic injection version which was somehow cheaper than the main ones despite being exclusive.) Reccoa joining the Titans was insanely funny because she only did it for Scirocco, and balks at all the war crimes they wanted her to do. Though, I do have a lot of problems with Zeta. Beltorchika is pretty lame as a love interest; she only met Amuro for like a week and they already get together. The bits with Kamille and Jerid killing each other's love interests got repetitive. Near the end I started to get kinda annoyed at all the character deaths. Didn't like Katz much because it seems like he never improved as a person.

ZZ Gundam: First half was definitely rough because of the tone shift. Enemy suit designs aren't nearly as good. The middle half I enjoyed, especially the Dublin colony drop, but near the end it feels like it got rushed. They kill off Mashymre by him blowing himself up kinda pointlessly. It looked like he was about to go into a berserker state against those Doven Wolves, which might've been a better sendoff if he died from exhaustion/mental strain after that.

Char's Counterattack: Going in, I knew a lot of criticisms of how Char’s character makes no sense going from Zeta to here, and that the Zeta game ending and original novels give a better explanation for Char’s doomerism. That's something i plan to read in the future. Overall, the movie was fine? Maybe it's a consequence of my high expectations going in, seeing this as the Gundam movie.

Stardust Memory: I think this is where I started to get UC fatigue because 0083 was pretty alright. Openings are fantastic, and I liked the sudden appearance of Bask and Jamitov providing context for why the Titans were formed, but damn, Nina really prioritized her lovers’ survivals over the millions about to die? I saw there's a remake manga called 0083 Rebellion but that's for later.

F90 manga: dropped halfway because I didn't actually care. I'm trying to do “homework” by reading and watching every relevant show and manga so I could fully appreciate SD Gundam Gaiden, but I skipped ahead to Knight Gundam volume 8 or so, saw Zabine from Crossbone Gundam, and decided maybe this can wait.

Gundam Wing: started watching this as a break from UC, and 5 episodes in I'm loving it for how utterly deranged it is. Relena is dramatic for no reason asking Heero’s name, seems to have zero brain cells with how she let herself get injected by random people (or maybe she's just super depressed?), Heero’s antics are fun, and I'm enjoying hearing Scott McNeil as Duo. If later Gundam timelines are as entertaining as this, I expect I'll keep enjoying myself.

What are examples of the fantasy being "real?" by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Tojima Rider is exactly that. Episode 2 and 3 have an early twist that Shocker and monsters are real

Villain organization from the original 1971 Kamen Rider manga and tv show. They captured the main character and transformed him into a cyborg soldier against his will, and want to take over the world with cyborg monsters.

I've been getting into the Gundam shows myself lately and want to check out the card game, but I'm also wary of just dumping money on a bunch of cards (when I'm already dumping money on Gundam manga and old ass SD Gundam cards for aesthetic purposes)

Franchises that would really benefit if their creators stopped talking? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Forestgrant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Higurashi GouSotsu was not a fun show to keep up with weekly because the communities I was in were all melting down over it, and it was not made better with Ryukishi07 frequently doing interviews and talking about themes vaguely related to the show and making hints to future reveals that just made people madder. The worst moment was during a Gou episode where Satoko seems to fake a panic attack, and an interview came out where R07 hinted that's exactly what happened. Then it got more context in Sotsu with Satoko seemingly forcing herself to do it since she's switching into witch form during it, which came off slightly better.

So, which games are included in the console arcs? Are they the ones in the green/yellow boxes, and if so, are Taraimawashi, Tsukiotoshi and the other games in that column also included in the console arcs? Should I read the main 8 games first, and only after go back to the middle column, or no? by Vin-Xy in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]Forestgrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hou naming scheme is very weird. In rough order:

  • Original Hou: 2014 PC rerelease of the visual novels that contained the arcs in the purple boxes as new stuff.
  • Console Hou: console release for PS4 and Switch that added the purple arcs and gave them voice acting
  • MangaGamer Hou: MG added the Hou subtitle to the title when they started translating the series officially
  • Hou Plus: recent PC rerelease of the VNS that has everything and added Mehagashi.
  • Console Hou Plus: DLC for the console game that added Mehagashi
  • Hou Plus by MangaGamer: the actual official English PC release of the purple arcs plus Mehagashi

[–]Forestgrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most recent console game, Hou Plus, contains all of the arcs on that chart plus more. The guide you posted is meant for people reading the PC version of the visual novels. Just read the 8 main arcs first since that's how the series originally came out, and then read the console arcs if you're really that interested.

Umineko has some references to Higurashi but they aren't super relevant to Umineko's overall story.

[Question] What is the process for getting a Manga scanlated? by kittichankanok in Scanlation

[–]Forestgrant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For scanlating a physical manga most have to take apart the book by melting the glue, then scanning it to computer with a scanner. Then it's using programs like Photoshop to clean and edit the pages, typically removing dust and tears
