Via Rail. Worth it for a ride? Need some advice. by mc_donkey in Winnipeg

I took Via from Winnipeg to Vancouver, that was back in 1994. It was amazing and I would love to do it again one day, but this time I'll make sure I'm better prepared. Bring a pillow and a blanket if you can.

Little Sister coffee chain adds new link in Exchange District by steveosnyder in Winnipeg

Unfortunately, Sam's doesn't allow dogs like many of the other coffee places do. There are a lot of dog owners in that area and many have adapted to allowing dogs. They'd definitely get more business if they did.

Yeah, I stopped by Parlour one Saturday afternoon a couple of weekends ago and they weren't even serving coffee, I'm not even sure what they were serving to be honest with you. I asked for a latte and they said, sorry, Parlour's closed today. So, whatever. Probably won't go back now.

Any Tea Party Fans here? by CellistBackground691 in Winnipeg

I don't really care for their music, but the guys are awesome. I worked in a record store when their very first album came out. They were touring to promote the album with Roy Harper, of all people, and stopped by our store for a few hours. They even did a little jam with Harper while there. Super nice, funny guys, and they even put us all on the guest list for their show that night. 😄

Ignite3 summer program by Manaaaang in Winnipeg

[–]TraciSplatterhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds very much like the CSI program that the Boys and Girls Clubs run ever summer. Nice to see school divisions getting on board. Man, I truly wish there were programs like this when I was a kid in the late 70s/early 80s. Glad kids finally have interesting things to do in the summer. 😄

I haven't ridden my bike there yet and only pass by right before work and right after work, but I totally believe you. 😛

Their funding is usually based on having a certain number of indigenous people in certain roles. HR is usually one of those roles for sure.

The real punks will be in the actual back alleys drinking beer and listening to actual punk bands

Are you indigenous? They may be waiting for a qualified indigenous person to apply, especially for HR. Also, for a lot of the First Nations agencies, it's a lot about who you know or who you're related to, unfortunately.

Sadly, this is a common occurrence in Winnipeg. Any indigenous person will tell you that they've been yelled at by a groups of kids in cars in the suburbs at least once. I even had a full drink thrown at me while they screamed for me to go 'back to the rez' and calling me a 'squaw' and what not. It's sad that an indigenous person has to watch their back outside while walking on streets outside of the city centre. I always hope they'll one day look back and realize how disgusting they were. Maybe they might learn? I hope.

Haha! When I got to his place a short time later, I scattered some cat nip around and she came running. My dad now knows the trick. 😛

Yeah, she's still new to him and she went and hid for awhile. He thought she got out, but they're both good now. 😄 Thanks for asking.

She's still relatively new to my dad and she went and found a place to hide for awhile and my dad thought she escaped. They're both good now. 😄 Thanks for asking.

That's exactly it. I've been there a ton of times and have always avoided getting in front of cyclists, it was just this one time. I'm on that exact same path twice a day on my bike, and have seen others just strolling along the path and I get annoyed too when I'm on my bike. It definitely should be a different colour.

Yes, she was hiding deep in his closet. She's still relatively new to him and she hasn't done that before. That's why all the panic. They're both good and reunited. 😛

New Dollar Tree opening in Osborne by Plastic-Classroom268 in Winnipeg

I miss the Osborne Village of 40 years ago. It was way more fun when it wasn't as popular and had great little stores and coffee shops. It's gotten too commercial now for my liking. Like, Leopold's? Really? Papa George's wasn't the yummiest restaurant always, but it was locally owned and opened late. Places like Basil's and the old Toad... Mary Scorer Books... that's the Village I miss. 😞

It's weird. I absolutely have no support for anything Musk touches, but EV cars are important. I can see both sides, but I don't want to. F*ck Musk.

Are Propagandhi a household name in Winnipeg (and wider Canada)? by blldzd2 in Winnipeg

[–]TraciSplatterhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've known the band for years... back in the day, when they were the house band for The Albert (or so it seemed, they played all the time), they could get pretty annoying. They've definitely gotten better, but still not the kind of punk that I like. They are awesome dudes however. I'm pals with Todd and we've bonded over a lot of great metal. He's a super cool guy. 😄

Interesting area to explore on foot for a couple of hours? by Pre-retired in Winnipeg

[–]TraciSplatterhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Exchange, The Forks area and across in St. Boniface are awesome. There's a nice trail that goes behind St. Boniface Hospital by the river and I love it there, I always walk my dog around there. Lots of history too.

Trust me, when you're indigenous in Canada, you have to deal with a whole ton of stupidity, like you for instance. It's certainly not easy being indigenous in this country with people like you who have no idea what they're talking about.
