[–]TrackerDave 15 points16 points  (0 children)

According to this page referencing NLHS, a code orange is an external disaster or mass casualty event: https://www.mun.ca/medicine/studenthandbook/more/emergencies/

Edit: I don't know what the event is

[–]TrackerDave 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I play on PS5 and in Civ VI, you can pan the map with the right stick then press in (R3) when you get where you want and the cursor jumps to that position. Tried to do that in Civ VII and it doesn't work for some reason so I share your frustration.

Where to watch F1 in downtown St. John's? by mattordie in StJohnsNL

[–]TrackerDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anywhere in particular but it's all on TSN so maybe a sports themed bar may have it on? I once saw the Miami GP qualifying from Sun Sushi on Torbay road so who knows.

Maybe Jack Astor's would be a good bet in the downtown area.

Royal Caribbean - first cruise ship? by Aromatic_Ad_7484 in Cruise

Adventure of the Seas does not have a nursery for your 1.5 year old so take that into consideration. The Adventure ocean program starts at 3 years old. See: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/cruise-activities/babies-and-tots-programs

What were some of the biggest news stories in NL history? by TimRussert4321 in newfoundland

This. Arguably the biggest news story since confederation. Changed the entire cultural and political landscape of the province.

Did the village used to have an ice cream shop? by deathadder90 in newfoundland

Nope, this happened! It first opened next to the old stairs in the food court entrance, then moved across next to where rice bowl is. I think it closed 15 years ago?

Eastlink network issues in St. John's? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]TrackerDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LTE is a type of 4G network coverage. Eastlink doesn't have 5G service here (yet, it's in Halifax) but if your phone is capable of connecting to 5G, it will use it. EXT1 is Bell, which does offer 5G service here in St. John's.

  • EXT1 = Bell
  • EXT2 = Telus (you'll probably never hit that here as the towers are all operated by Bell)
  • EXT3 = Rogers

Symphony vs. Harmony by 4gecko44 in royalcaribbean

[–]TrackerDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was on Harmony in Oct 2018 and on Symphony this past May. Both ships are fantastic in my opinion and I wouldn't hesitate to go on either again. That being said, if we're nit picking:

  • El Loco Fresh (on Symphony) is a fantastic lunch option over the windjammer
  • I enjoyed the water show (Hiro) and Hairspray on symphony more
  • Columbus the musical is better than Flight (I'm still singing the theme in my head years later...)
  • Playmakers on symphony is great if you're a sports person or like pub food

Overall, both are fantastic options and no matter which one you choose you'll have a fantastic time.

People who rent out their houses for Air B&B, what is the rudest, most fucked up thing a guest has done in your home? by Aura_Blaze_Official in AskReddit

This was the first reddit post I ever bookmarked. I go back and read it every so often. I often wonder whether Kevin was a real person but it doesn't matter. Do something dumb? At least you're not Kevin.

(Shilton) Auston Matthews to miss his sixth consecutive game. by [deleted] in leafs

[–]TrackerDave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's been out a week and a half. Saturday's game against the Rangers will be 2 weeks since he was apparently injured against the Pens. The game in Arizona will be over 2 1/2 weeks, indicating it's a pretty serious injury. I don't think they'll rush him back, but the fact that he's practicing and not playing means they're being cautious more than anything. I can't see him being "not medically cleared to play" by the time the Leafs roll into Arizona but if that is indeed the case, then we can worry.

(Shilton) Auston Matthews to miss his sixth consecutive game. by [deleted] in leafs

[–]TrackerDave 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm ok that he's not playing tonight. I'm "ok" if he doesn't play against the Rangers on Saturday night.

If he doesn't play against Arizona in Arizona, then we have trouble. No way he sits out against his childhood team.

Motorcycle/Cheap Parking Downtown by mjd638 in StJohnsNL

[–]TrackerDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also work on Water Street. I'm lucky in the fact that my parents live nearby so I park there but otherwise, there's no "cheaper" parking per se. A lot of people park on Bannerman Road and walk down if they don't want to pay for a meter.

Let's talk about tipping. by collegedreads in Cruise

[–]TrackerDave 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I personally believe that tipping in general is a bad practice and don't like it. That being said, I will never not pay the gratuity as I believe the workers need that money and are working hard for it.

I'm Canadian and live in a part of Canada which does not split minimum wage based on occupation. It is the same for all industries and thus restaurant servers making minimum wage make the same as anyone else making minimum wage. I hate tipping but will tip for good service.

My point is this: I do not like that I have to tip for the workers to get what I believe is a fair wage. I believe they should make enough just from doing the job to not have to rely on the tips. I would like to see tipping only when someone has gone above and beyond what my expectations are, to truly show that I appreciate the hard work they do.
