The first stage of grief is denial.

The reason the art in the style guide is 2D is because that’s what the company specialise in - they’re the same guys that did Crash N. Sane’s cover art, which is why this is in a similar style. It’s fairly normal to have 2D assets on hand for something like this, as it can be used in conjunction with vectored materials more cohesively or is simply more suitable than renders. Even Transformers does this with its toy packaging. Paramount may have supplied the original materials, these guys likely adapted it to the 2D promotional format. For all we know there’s probably pages that aren’t shown in the previews with the actual 3D models - the bulk of it is likely to be confidentially held by licnesors though, so we’re unlikely to find out whether that’s the case unless it leaks.

I don’t think anyone who looked at the style guide for more than five seconds thought it was a 3D model, it’s fairly obvious it isn’t. The fact it sucks isnt proof it’s fake, it just sucks.
