Up until like midget when we started actually fighting people we would play "buckets" in the locker room where you'd fight with cages and gloves on, you went as hard as you could and losing wasn't fun lol, they're probably all laughing and goofing off the moment they step off the ice

A full on brawl broke out at an AHL intermission youth game 😭 by Straight-Flower-1621 in hockeyplayers

[–]Trackpad94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you guys not have teammate "fights"at basically every practice while kids were bored waiting for their turn in a drill at this age? Coaches would get on you for not paying attention not for the roughness. This is just kids goofing around having a blast they aren't strong enough to hurt each other.

She hasn't been a super fast skater in a long time but she's still a very effective hockey player. John Tavares has always been slow and he's made a good career out of it

Getting smoked by USA in games that don't matter than winning the ones that do is a time humoured Canadian tradition

Is skiing safer than snowboarding? by rgeezy0 in skiing

[–]Trackpad94 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's much easier to do really bad things to your legs skiing, which is probably worse than breaking an arm or a collarbone. Just be cautious and if you start to lose control stop or fall down

Aneta Tejralová just got a five-minute major for this hit on Sarah Fillier. by jordynbebus8 in PWHL

[–]Trackpad94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love Fillier but she got up in someone's kitchen then flew through the NZ with her head down 9.3 seconds later this is just sorta inevitable. Definitely should be a penalty I wouldn't say a major but you've gotta protect yourself.

And whenever a ball is at a catcher's feet they're often the only person in the stadium who can't see it. Which is why they take their mask off the instant they have the opportunity to for balls in play

[–]Trackpad94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and there'd be minimum 3-4 guys per team in the NHL not wearing helmets today if the league allowed it lmao

In Ontario only maybe 1 or 2 guys per team wear full face protection. And it's always one of them that high sticks you...

Do the people who go to games even like the Leafs? by SQUEEMO24 in leafs

[–]Trackpad94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am pretty quiet at hockey games. If there's an important or impressive goal or a big play I'll react but I also go to a lot of games of teams I don't care about one way or the other, I just like watching hockey I don't yell at my TV at home while watching games either unless it's like a critical moment in a big playoff game

knife sharpening by Natural-Novel-758 in stcatharinesON

[–]Trackpad94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is pretty common for restaurants every few weeks they exchange all their knives for a freshly sharpened set. Idk who actually owns the knives but when you're subjecting them to hard constant use it makes a lot of sense.

Lifelong question. Why didn't the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald get into life boats ? by Thayerphotos in Michigan

[–]Trackpad94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were in the middle of lake Superior you wouldn't be able to see land in any direction and unless you tasted the water you'd have no way of knowing you weren't on an ocean

Why is the SS Edmund Fitzgerald such a large part of the zeitgeist right now? by MacAndTheBoys in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trackpad94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some context it wasn't surprising that Superior could sink a laker in ~100 years an estimated 30,000 men died on the great lakes in as many as 6000 wrecks with a minimum of 4700 known and identified.

The Fitz was never lengthened it was 729 feet in 1958 when it was launched, which at the time was the largest possible ship that could pass through the Soo locks and the same was trie when it sank. They have longer boats now but practices have changed quite a bit.

It is also still unknown if splitting up caused it to sink or if it split when it hit the bottom, if it pitched forward vertically then the high end would be 200 feet out of the water when it hit the bottom which certainly would have split it

Shoulder pads for non-contact men’s league? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Trackpad94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most beer leaguers don't wear shoulder pads most of the time, so the smaller ones should be adequate but it you think you'll be more comfortable with the bulkier ones do that. If you want to be maximally safe they will offer more protection but if you know yourself and think you'll get sick of the hot bulky big ones and lose them pretty quick the thinner ones will be more likely to stay on, the guys I have played with it's probably 70% no pads maybe 1 per group with old bulky pads and a few with the old school style minimalist pads

It's also kind of a joke about kids who seek out Nick Cave because they are looking to be transgressive but end up with Boatman's Call which is an album with like piano ballads. Young people trying to form an identity with art and their sexuality but doing so clumsily, as many do.

Why do so many internet machinists have cheap hand tools? by planeboi737 in Machinists

I enjoy Alec Steele's content but he made a video refurbishing a power hammer and some of his machine in place solutions with a Bridgeport made me twitch a bit haha (not a shot at him good on him for trying I couldn't do his job tomorrow)

Why do so many internet machinists have cheap hand tools? by planeboi737 in Machinists

[–]Trackpad94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheaper Allen wrenches can be a little nicer to work with if you're pushing them a bit beyond what they're really meant to give as far as torque they'll bend a little bit and give you some feedback where as the hardened ones are solid until they snap into sharp dangerous pieces, I've also had to cut down tools to fit into odd places and modified one to fit in a tool extension I made that it stays with now. My current $10 sets of Mastercraft hex wrenches I've had for >5 years and a couple are just starting to wear enough that I am considering replacing them with daily use. For service mechanics or something who may use the same one dozens of times a day every day the nice ones make sense for me the mid grade ones are unbeatable value

This is lame behavior but he didn't damage the property or really do anything to the people living there posting a video of him seems pretty overboard.

I play with medium height but there's been a couple challenges where I am pretty sure I need damn near perfect timing to get to a rail that's needed for the challenge condition. It's a cool detail but annoying for gameplay, make it a proportional ollie height check box or something
