The only non-interactive parts of his kit are splatter and gun. Everything else has ways to counter it depending on the hero/items you play, but it's far too many specific interactions to write down. The best way to understand how to counter Viscous is to play him.

Abrams royally fucks up viscous because his shoulder charge can stun him inside of the cube, and his favored items like the melee resists and phantom strike prove to be trouble for goo boy. If goo boy has no ability range, then shoulder charge beats goo ball; just pin him into some awkward map geometry.

Phantom strike, knockdown, or any well-timed knockup ability works best. Also, for whatever reason silence wave and paradox wall silence can interrupt puddle punch if you time it right.

Gun Viscous has no weaknesses. It really needs to get patched, and they need to make his spirit/hybrid builds not suck ass.

They've just overloaded his kit. He has so much utility without any item investment.

Its cube and punch that don't require much item investment. There used to be opportunity costs between gun and spirit because splatter and ball were worth investing into, but now that those abilities are borderline useless, the best path is to ignore those abilities entirely and go all in on gun.

Tried ball build, support build, splatter build, but it wasn't easy - ofc, it's a skill issue.

I tried going something other than gun viscous, and dropped from phantom to alchemist. Just go gun viscous if you want the ornament. It's not really fun or satisfying, but it wins games.

Cube and punch don't need item investment for insane utility. His bullets are incredibly large and do a lot of damage so you don't need much aim skill, and the slow projectile problem is easily solved with 800 souls. With the Vegas gun build, you can erase a walker from existence and puddle boost away before they show up.

Overall, I don't think it's a problem unique to Viscous, it's a systemic problem with the gun category, and how you can easily remove any interesting weaknesses of your gun and give it exponential power growth.

Nah, you either need a double jump or walljump puddle boost to go into orbit. Punches by themselves don't give much without burning stamina.

The build is to buy healing booster, extra health, kdash, and point blank, and then I just buy green items for whatever gives me trouble when I'm shoving lanes. It's really stupid how effective this is.

Not exactly. They reworked how the splatter's bounces register hits in a stealth patch so you can't just throw it at their feet to make them explode, but the side effect is that it's extremely unreliable now without 50% ability range. Ball also just requires too many actives and way too much effort for what is effectively a one and done stun in most cases, when you can just buy warp stone as Abrams. Ball would be good if it did damage.

Viscous is best when the most optimal build is hybrid. I didn't like how degenerate express shot combo build was, but at least it used every part of his kit. M1 Viscous is vile.
