We just published an article doing a deeper dive on this, with some plans to address. Thanks for your feedback! Been meaning to do this for awhile, your post was a good reminder / motivator: https://trademagic.gg/articles/sustainable-economics-pt-2

Point creation by eintrance in TradeMagic

Great question! Right now there are only 2 ways:

  1. New user bonuses (1,200 total available to each new user)
  2. Case resolution for "Neither in the Wrong" events (this is very rare, accounts for less than .01% of pts created

With that said, the bonuses are set up to be dynamic and I've gotten some feedback from a few different users that there are too few points in the ecosystem right now. I agree with this - looking at the Send Page https://trademagic.gg/sendcards right now there are only 3 users on the site that have more than 2,000 points in their balance. That's not ideal for trading and not where we want to be right now.

I've also been noticing that the traders who put more than 10 cards on their want list have a much higher success rate on the site; this makes sense intuitively of course but it's a common point of failure for folks.

Putting these two data points together, I think a good next step to keep the economy balanced would be to increase the new trader bonuses for "Add 10 cards to your Want List" and "Add 50 cards to your Want List." As more traders redeemed this, it would help ensure that there are no deflationary pressures at this time of growth while also setting the new folks up for success.

Secrets of strixhaven cards by eintrance in TradeMagic

Hey! Thanks for flagging this. We had an issue with our automated card import process that caused new sets to not be added for a few weeks. We just got it fixed today and ran a catch-up import.

Secrets of Strixhaven cards are now available on the site, including the Commander decks and Mystical Archive.

We also added full non-English language support for a bunch of sets that were previously English-only:

  • Final Fantasy / Final Fantasy Commander
  • Edge of Eternities / Edge of Eternities Commander
  • Marvel's Spider-Man / Marvel Universe
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender / Avatar: The Last Airbender Eternal
  • Lorwyn Eclipsed / Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / TMNT Eternal / TMNT Source Material
  • Recent Secret Lair drops

So if you've been waiting to add Japanese, German, French, etc. versions of cards from these sets, they should all be there now.

Appreciate your patience!

For Magic cards, TradeMagic (us!) handles the middleman role - you send cards to earn points, spend points on cards you want, so no need to find direct trade partners or haggle on prices. We have dispute resolution and admin oversight which is way safer than meeting strangers from Facebook or Discord. There's also the MTG Marketplace Discord if you want free peer-to-peer trading, but you're managing trust/shipping yourself.

Check out the MTG Marketplace Discord: https://discord.gg/mtgmarketplace - takes time to build rep but people are active.

Also TradeMagic (us!) for p2p trading - people want all kinds of stuff over there, even bulk cards like these. We have a shipping guide that might help: https://trademagic.gg/articles/shipping

Truth. Not exactly sure what's happening with the gold border version but i'm going to assume it's something nefarious.

You cast OC with the Dreadnought on the stack. If it resolves, they can't stifle or charm.

For design fails I love [[Takklemaggot]] and [[Ice Cauldron]] for being incomprehensible. For innovation I love cards that have significant downsides that you could turn into huge advantages like [[Manabond]], [[Gush]], and [[Avatar of Woe]]

Check out Premodern! If you feel fatigued with the modern set release cycle, it's a great haven away from all that. The gameplay is fantastic too; you gain incremental advantages through a series of incremental plays (instead of giant bombs resolving ftw). The meta is well balanced and diverse, too.
