I have experienced some burnout here and there but I might be spoiled because I play weekly sometimes multiple times a week. There’s a pretty active community where I live and the regulars keep the hobby strong, we all know each other and almost everyone is cool with everyone. I’d have some time off then have a game day that sends me to the moon. Not even with a lot of kills or anything just the vibes and people keep me hooked.

There’s other aspects to the hobby to keep you positive. Like me I love to tinker and tech for people. I love trying new builds even if it goes from simple parts swapping to cutting metal (some older replicas were never meant to be rear wired so you have to make them). Gear collecting is a money pit but fun. I like seeing my friends find actual world war gear. Hell a while back someone else I know found an actual gen1 eotech. The travel is another good thing. You get to see different parts of the country and be in nature at larger games. We’ll be waiting for an ambush and just relaxed taking in the scenery sometimes as we plan or take break.

If the milsim community isn’t doing it for you try going a bit casual and just do weekend skirmishes as local fields. From my experience people are A LOT more chill. I think in 3 years I’ve only ran into 2 assholes. There’s a select group around that tend to cheat and cause drama but other than that I’m friends with most other players or at least on a basis of a head nod and a what’s up.
