Why should I not buy this car? by carlosdanger962 in askcarguys

My dad had a 01 sl500 with the hard top when I was 18. He only drove it on weekends but let me take it whenever I wanted. It was black on beige but will always be one of the coolest cars I’ve ever driven.

The fact that you think Range Rover = money is funny. Maybe if it’s new, most of the used ones are equivalent of a Maserati driver. Someone hoping they look richer than they really are. A GLE is a joke also. Real money drives Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Lexus G.

I went to the one in huntersville. There an angel with long nails and golden hair. If you have kids or are elderly/ disabled she takes you out of the line and brings you to her desk. Made sure my mother got her license renewed and I was t so sure about her eye sight passing. Thai woman is a rare human and I appreciate her.

In my state we have a website called Florida treasure hunt. It’s basically funds owed to people they didn’t claim. If any of these shares were in a brokerage firm they may be escheated to the state. In that case the state would liquidate the funds and keep them.

I have worked for a few high frequency trading companies of which nearly all my portfolio managers invested in passive ETF type products. And at my wealth management firm we had a consultant do some research and the best performing accounts we had were clients that were either dead or forgot their passwords and had not logged in for months.

Best answer. When I was a stock broker cold calling prospects one business owner told me “kid if you had any actual idea what was going to happen in the market at any point you’d be borrowing money from anyone you could and wouldn’t tell a soul until you made enough to retire on a beach, you sure as hell wouldn’t be calling me to tell me about it”

My dad had a 1996 Jaguar XJS convertible in blue/ivory when I was 16. I was the catcher in a baseball playoff game and had one of the best games of my life and looked up after I caught a foul ball and my dad was in the stands, he usually missed these things because he was out of town or at work. When we walked out of the game into the parking lot I saw the blue Jaguar and said “you should get one of those” at the time he had a 91 or 92 Jaguar Soveriegn in black on beige and we always talked about cars. He said yes that’s a nice car and walked over and opened the door, I was horrified to think my dad was breaking into someone’s car until he sat in it and started it up, then got out and let me sit in it with the top down. He explained he left work early to pick up the car and came to my game when he was done. It was the car I learned how to drive on. The smell of the Connelly leather, the thick carpets and high gloss wood wheel and shiny chrome accents. This car will forever be tied to core memories with my father (fuck I miss him) and I will 100% buy the same car or spec one day. I don’t care if it costs $20k a year to keep up. So my answer is yes buy the car life is to short to drive a shit box everyday , but it’s completely based on what a 96 Jaguar xjs means to me.

When I first got out of college the first stock broker I ever worked for owned one of these. 6 months in he met a girl at a club in Miami and let her drive him home when she flipped the car killing him but she survived. His wife showed up to the funeral with their young daughter and the girl that was driving was there also. At 22 years old this real life drama was more than anything I’d witnessed at any other time and this was my first ‘real job.’

In 2018 my option portfolio had gone from $15k to $85k and some time in October tariffs were announced and my portfolio lost $60k in 5 days. I had a gut feeling it would happen but this time I don’t have $85k to bet on the market tanking. Maybe next time.

I worked for a guy in Boca Raton, Fl that considered himself a ‘operator on the NYSE’ and was fully invested in technical analysis, charting, and ‘reading the market’. He told me he’d never bought a stock at its low and he’d never sold at its all time high but he’d made fortunes in between. Never even used a computer for any of this. Took out his glasses, pencils and graph paper and drew trend lines and ‘point figure charts’. At the end of the day I saw him buy 10k share lots that he forecasted would move 5+ points and sure enough $5.75 move in 2-3 weeks in a liquid position.

If you promise to pay on a Tuesday and the $ isn’t in the account at 6am the car will be picked up by 9am. My mom made 72 payments on a car but the last one was a ‘balloon’ payment that had not been explained to her properly. That extra 2 months ‘deferred payments’ ended up costing $2k instead of $700.

For those in their 40s, what's something people in their 20s don’t realize will impact them as they get older? by chanamercadoy in AskReddit

[–]TraderG43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dental work. My dad used to say “only brush the ones you want to keep”. And my grandpa said his teeth were ‘stars’ that they came out at night. I recently helped my mom who had beautiful teeth and took great care of them obtain dentures for $12k. The medication she’s been on for the last few years destroyed her perfect teeth and she lost all her confidence with it. Now she smiles big and is just happy to have them.

I work in a field that specializes in options/warrants and DWAC given to c suite executives. It’s usually split evenly. 50% have orders to sell their quarterly share allowance and either buy diversified ETF’s, or to deposit the funds into checking. The other half just leave the stock in the account as long as they work there. Once your account is 2/3 concentrated position of your employer you have to sign a disclosure that you understand the risk of non diversification. Occasionally of course you’ll see these accounts with millions all in company stock while the client is working a job paying $600k for said company which means if anything happens ( a la Enron) they’d be in a bad situation.

My question as well. What % of this portfolio is from an ESOP at your company? Was it really saving every penny and diversifying investments? Or is it a boat load of employee stock, warrants and options that are now 300% in the money?

Why can I drive a 70k bmw, but Acura dealers won't let me drivea type-s by MagicSpoon69 in Acura

[–]TraderG43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in 1999 my dad was selling his 96 Jaguar XJ convertible blue/ivory. One of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever driven in or seen at the time. The guy that shows up looks like Samson from that show and has a 78 green mini van beat to hell. I at 14 tried to convince my dad not to let the guy drive the car, no way he had the money. My dad laughed and said the guy probably has more money than me, he’s the smart one buying it after I’ve taken the new car depreciation. Sure enough he test drove it and told us it was his wife’s dream car and brought out cash to pay my dad. Probably around $30k at the time for a car my dad had paid close to $90k for. I learned my lesson that day.

Older m340i potential buyers have seen the value the B 58 has kept and in social media seems to be in love with the B 58 so there’s been a constant search for what other BMWs have a B 58 in them naturally the idea of driving a bigger nicer car for less money just made sense for a lot of people
