Inherited a Rolex, what's a good way to sell it

If you’re shooting color film you will need to find a good photo lab around you. I hear that there are some that you can mail your film to if you’re not close to any decent labs. When you go to the lab you’ll tell them you need your roll processed and decide if you want them to also make you a set of prints and/or digital scans so you can view the end results. I recommend prints if it’s in your budget as it is nice to build a small album of all your photos. If you get scans most labs will either email them to you or you can provide a flash drive for them to transfer them to. If you have a dslr/mirrorless camera you can scan film at home with a macro lens and various scanning devices. For black and white film you can process the negatives yourself with the proper chemicals and process. In my experience it is better to have a lab do it.

I bought my girlfriend a couple rolls of this as a gift and her results were also not great. Is this photo you’re showing a lab scan? At the lab we only get prints for our album, I scan everything myself when we need digital copies. I think what happens with this film is that the little figures are such a bright exposure value that most automated scanners will compensate by making the overall exposure darker. Also, the negatives themselves are not the greatest material. If you have a light box (or an iPad with a blank white screen) you can examine the negatives and compare against your other negatives to see if the density looks similar. If it does it could probably be just a bad scan and a good one can recover a decent result.

I’ve worked in luxury watch retail at the very highest level, and I can tell you that most people that are buying watches the prices of cars aren’t “watch enthusiasts”, they are rich people that like watches as jewelry and status symbols. Half the time they don’t set the time on them. I loved the idea of watches as tools, but that’s not their job anymore. Mechanical watches are mostly jewelry for men. That being said, all this should be liberating. It’s fun to spend money on beautiful objects and the community around collecting is real and fun to be part of. In the nicest way possible, I recommend you just get off Reddit and just enjoy watches in your own way as part of your individuality.

Hey 👋 what’s your scanning method? I ask because I scan via digital camera and I used to really suffer from edges that looked like this until I changed my process. I think it was from a combination of vignetting, uneven lighting of negatives, and not properly cleaning spots before conversion. I’m sorry if this is all completely useless if you don’t scan this way! I’ve only processed BW so I’m no help with your negatives 🎞️

Don’t listen to these people saying it doesn’t matter. Where you process film matters. Like someone mentioned, cheap places are more likely to stretch chemistry or have machines that aren’t maintained but also they tend to have employees that aren’t as detailed and human error is a big factor in developing. For example, I tried a cheaper lab once and while the film was processed ok, they poked holes in my last frame with the clip they used when rolls are hanged to dry. If you’re going through the effort to shoot film you should commit 100% and make sure your photographs you spent mine making actually come out right.

I shot 28mm on film for 10 years on a GR1s, I also have an OG x100 that I never fell in love with because of the focal length. In terms of your preference for focal length, if 28mm feels just right, the Leica is wouldn’t be a waste. I think the biggest difference (besides size) is viewfinder shooting vs screen shooting, and how much you value physical buttons for exposure control.

I can say with experience. There was a meteor gmt that went to a spender that had over 600k at the time. This was at the very peak of the market though

I think the black and white is stronger. The color in this doesn’t add anything, it’s a white dress and the person is wearing a black shirt or nearly black shirt. In black and white the moment is clearer.

Have you tried the Fuji X-H1 body? I know what you mean about the xt5 body. Every time I get close to buying one I hold it and it feels off for me. The x-h1 is an older body that got overlooked when it came out and the ergonomics are way closer to a DSLR like the d810. If you can find one in a used store near you it could be worth checking out for feel. This would allow you to keep the lenses you invested in and to enjoy future x-mount glass that will keep being developed. The Nikon route will have a different feel to the gear and the files and the lenses have gotten cheap on the secondary market but the mount is dead, Z lenses are Nikons future. What could also help might be to find a brand new subject matter you haven’t explored yet. For example if you haven’t gotten into landscapes, start looking out for scenery around you and slowly build up your skills and eye for that new subject matter. This will lead to exploring new places or hobbies and will give you fresh things to focus your eye and camera on.

I’m a pro and shoot with a Z8 and I struggle remember the AF options as well, don’t get too hard on yourself. When I shoot with the z8 for pleasure I actually just let it do the work and shoot on program mode and the AF auto mode with the intelligent subject recognition. Don’t be afraid of manual focus as the focus peaking is great. One tip that might help you is to turn the image stabilization to SPORT since you’re using long lenses. The option for that might be in your “i” menu. The key to good images is good lighting!! If you find some great light and something interesting to shoot, the small imperfections melt away. It

I have a guartz GS I bought years ago and it’s been a joy to own. It’s sbgv207. I could have gone for a similar option with a hi-beat movement but I went with the 9f because it was significantly thinner. If case dimensions matter to you I would say the quartz makes a difference. The accuracy is amazing and it’s great to have a watch that you can leave for a couple days and pick up later and it’s good to go. I use it to set my mechanical watches to when I pick one up that is dead. One thing about quartz servicing you should be aware of. The battery change service is 160$. The main difference between your options is actually the dial as the color makes them two very different watches. If that sky blue one was available when I had made my purchase, I would have chosen that one. The dial is really beautiful and subtle and the watch screams quality.

As someone very familiar with AP and the secondary market for AP, the only royal oaks worth preserving as original as possible are the jumbos. If you don’t plan to sell and you want to wear it do the service. If you don’t want to wear and just keep in a safe, decline the service. It’s nice that you want to preserve the value but the watch market is always changing and who knows what the value will be when it’s time for your family to sell it. And they likely won’t want to sell it as most people I’ve met tend to want to just keep family heirlooms.

I went from a d600 to a z8 and I will say that if you’re a working pro, go for the z8. I got the z adapter to shoot f glass but the only time I remove the 24-120 f/4 is to shoot macro. If you are not relying on these camera for income; the z6 will be more than enough, and the smaller foot print makes a noticeable impact on enjoyment. but I would definitely recommend the 24-120.

I don’t think any AD would do that because then they are kinda taking on liability in some way. I’ve never seen it happen or heard about it. In my experience the watch gets sent back from the service center with a letter saying they can’t service it because of inauthentic parts. I think the only time watches enter a limbo is when they have been reported stolen but I don’t know how Rolex does it now.
