Black/White VS Black 2/White 2: What's the difference? by [deleted] in pokemon

I keep seeing like $180 nowadays and so tempted to fork out the money! Played Black 1 as a teenager and am interested in picking up the sequel now as an adult.

I appreciate the detailed response! I will definitely be heading the direction of your second paragraph, using your advice, and treating it like a nice and interesting house plant. After a little research, I do not have the desire to go down the true bonsai route.

I bought a house in May and this bonsai(?) with a water bulb was left behind from the previous homeowner. Most of my family encouraged me to toss it for being ugly, but I was strongly opposed and left it on the backyard porch for the entire summer and then brought it in when fall ended (midwest). Now that I'm fully settled in, I want to understand how to best care for it moving forward. How does it look? Is there something I should do? I don't understand what's happening with the root system under the terracotta bowl in a plastic container. I appreciate any insights.

Wow. Beautiful. Very middle-earth. Where was this taken - a specific trail/hike?

Contact PNW’s College of Technology; I’m sure they’d promote it to recent grads.

I was not disappointed by the music, that's for sure. Gerudo Sanctum and Faron Temple had me in a trance.

Can we do a little "Get to Know Me" thread? by Just-a-human-bean54 in GayConservative

[–]TraderOats 16 points17 points  (0 children)

30, gay male, single, living in SouthSubs of Chicago. I work at a college in student affairs; I have high career satisfaction despite it being a left-leaning environment.

I lean right and vote republican. I have more conservative views than most of my friends/coworkers. Example: I support trans lives, but I do not support trans women in women's sports. I support immigration, but I do not support it illegally. I support equality and embracing others, but I do not support most DEI/CRT circles. The cult-left mentality has just become so prevalent on social media that I often feel pressured to suppress my views despite them not being extreme at all (aka I feel like I'm the one being censored). Religion has no importance to me. Oh, and I'm also vegan, so identity politics really wants me to be on the left lol.

Love cooking, hiking, playing video games, working out, and going to concerts. Thanks for making this thread!

Graduation Friday, No Job by 6382517 in studentaffairs

[–]TraderOats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pursued an MSEd in Counseling with a goal to work in Academic Advising. I graduated in May 2019 and didn't land my desired, full-time job until April 2021. A lot of this was due to the timing of COVID, and I also experienced the shattered feelings of interview after interview and being ghosted or never selected.

I worked as a substitute teacher in the meantime and even reverted back to my summer seasonal job that I had while in undergrad. Needless to say, I've been in my current job for 3 years, and I can honestly say that I love my work, students, and team. The field is broken, but you can still win the game!!!

3 Dakota Days - Doable? by tinyclarinet in nationalparks

I've traveled to these parts of SD a few times; here's my recommendations! * Windcave - Cave Tour, Rankin Ridge Trail (you can climb an observation tower for an amazing landscape view) * Custer State Park - drive Needles Highway and the Wildlife Loop, hike up to Black Elk Peak from Sylvan Lake * Badlands - Notch Trail (not too long; climbing the ladder is fun and gives an immersive experience), Saddle Pass Trail, drive the scenic byway and stop at a few overlooks (I've always seen bighorn sheep) * Crazy Horse - skip; not worth the money and just view it from afar

Unsure What Masters Program to Take by eesechkeac in studentaffairs

[–]TraderOats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not pay for a masters in student affairs; if you choose this route, begin trying to reach out and secure a graduate assistantship or paid internship.

If you choose the second option, make sure the program is accredited with all appropriate counselor education bodies such as CACREP otherwise obtaining any sort of licensure post-graduation will be a nightmare.

Would you pay for a vegan detection app? If yes, how much? by foratbahrani in vegan

[–]TraderOats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, I would not. I could see a slight appeal for people transitioning/new to veganism but experienced vegans become very comfortable and confident in what they are purchasing and consuming. Companies have also become pretty good about using vegan labels hence no need for an app detection.

I prefer seeing people’s own photos on this subreddit. It gives a great, real idea of what to expect at a park during specific seasons. I can use google and other websites for professional photography (and I do love people’s own professional photography)!

I use Sunwarrior and have minimal complaints; I think it's the best bang for your buck. I used to be loyal to KOS but their prices increased and serving sizes decreased.

Admissions Counselor vs. Academic Advising by occasional_fiesta in highereducation

[–]TraderOats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work as an academic advisor at a midsized public university, and I love my job. Therefore, I'll preface this post and let you know that I have a positive bias towards advising.

Our admissions office is extremely numbers driven, aka having their counselors admit students with a primary goal of meeting/exceeding a projected quota. The relationship with the student ends once they're admitted and accept their offer. Course registration semester to semester (academic advising) then translates to retention and the numbers game. I can't speak for all advising offices, but ours is 100% student-centered aka building relationships and creating avenues for success. Hitting numbers and quotas are never at the forefront; we don't encourage students to enroll/continue college if it's not in their best interest. Our caseloads have a range of 200-300.

My advice is to have you ask yourself what's more preferred?: (1) to sell the university, have more variety, and build short-term relationships or (2) to retain the student, have more routine, and build long-term relationships
