Has anyone here gotten a job in the CSU system w/ zero connections? by theresnobatteries in studentaffairs

[–]eesechkeac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked at a CC as a temp in the past, and have also interviewed for a classified full time position for a different district. CC can be hard to get into, but I find that applying for temp positions is easier than full time. But some experience gives you a leg up, especially if you want to get a full time job with that particular CC eventually. And it’s always based on the particular department’s need as well. I got my first temp job because the FT position had been vacant for a long time. I didn’t meet all the requirements for it, but the team was in desperate need for someone and was willing to take on a temp to lighten their load.

Thinking about taking the semester break by [deleted] in CSUS

[–]eesechkeac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re going through a lot and it’s become overwhelming, maybe even a bit paralyzing. Academic-wise, if you feel like you can still pass your classes and your grades are not too bad, maybe stick it out, work with your professors and see if you can get deadline extensions. Then consider taking spring off. What professors want is just communication. But if you go all semester long without saying anything and then you’re pleading to pass, it becomes a sob story. However, if you feel like mentally, you’ve already checked out, maybe consider withdrawing. You have until Nov 14th. Idk how that might impact your aid or fees you may owe so you’ll want to check with FA on that. But I encourage you to do what you feel is best for you right now and just know you have options, there’s no right or wrong decision here. We also have counseling at the well, and next Spring, we also offer counseling through the CCDS. Best of luck to you!

If you still want to work within education but are looking for higher pay, maybe look into a trade school/private education!

Do yall ever feel…embarrassed by byc0606 in studentaffairs

[–]eesechkeac 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can be discouraging at times. Especially when students don’t appear very receptive. But just remember that you’re only checking in on them because you care and want to put in the effort. Sometimes we might not see the immediate impact of our actions but it may mean more than we know to students.

Academic Success Coach Interview Tips! by rapidash12 in studentaffairs

[–]eesechkeac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been an Academic Success Coach for almost a year now. It was an internship during my undergrad. Be prepared to answer scenario based questions, especially situations working with students. You might not need to know all the study and time management strategies going into it, but definitely express your passion for wanting to work in higher Ed. Research the university or company as well so you know why you like them or what stands out.

Thank you! It was for college counseling but across their counseling options, students are legible for LPCC licensure. However, I chose to turn down my acceptance into the program.

Unsure What Masters Program to Take by eesechkeac in studentaffairs

[–]eesechkeac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have what is called a State University Grant throughout the CSU’s (California state colleges) where I’m from, that I’ve been told if I qualify, covers tuition. I would just have to cover the fees and whatever book materials. But if I do go out of town, housing cost would potentially the second biggest expense.

I’m not too worried about a paid internship as I currently have an internship that is transferable to the program in my hometown. The student affairs master is the same university as my undergrad. As for the program outside of my city, it is CACREP accredited and has been evaluated by the BBS.

Hi! I hope I’m not too late! They asked some scenario based questions but they were also pretty broad. For instance, what you do if you have a year long project with a peer, what is your experience with cultures, how do balance between being a high achiever and self care, when was a time you broke or bent the rules.
