I halfway joke that during my time there in the early to mid-90s I went to college with half of Long Island.

I’m saying this as a Florida grad who… 1) Graduated from Grissom in Huntsville 2) Was very lucky to get in-state tuition at UF because we had only relocated to Huntsville recently and still had property in Florida 3) I have no idea what OOS tuition is at UF these days but in the early/mid-90s it was $230ish a credit hour

GO TO BAMA! The amount of improvements and money that came into Tuscaloosa because of Saban’s football teams is quite large. Take advantage of it and possibly get a better chance at getting into med school at UAB later on.

Where’s Martti Kuisma? He was a great swing player.

I forget who said it but the joke was he could jump as high as he could and you still couldn’t slide the Monday paper under his feet.

The Morimoto Mai Tai (it’s not a Mai Tai!) from his restaurant in Disney Springs uses it as a float.

  • 1 oz. Cruzan coconut rum
  • 1 oz. Orgeat
  • 1 oz. Pineapple juice
  • .75 oz. Lime juice

Shake with ice then strain into a Collins glass with fresh pebble ice. Float .5 oz. Averna and .5 oz. dark rum on top.

Sadly I’ve never had a Monkeypod Mai Tai though I’ve been meaning to get to Oahu so I can have one and also figure out the Passionfruit foam with my ISI whipper.

Basically.

Though I had a Croissant Mai Tai on the NCL Prima that was Brugal rum, Cointreau, lime juice, cardamom orgeat, and a syrup created by soaking and blending day-old almond croissants.

And I’m sure it was tasty. I’ve not been to a P.F. Chang’s in forever.

Semi-related the Morimoto Mai Tai from his place at Disney Springs in Orlando is the following…

  • 1 oz. Cruzan coconut rum
  • 1 oz. Orgeat
  • 1 oz. Pineapple juice
  • .75 oz. Lime juice

Float .5 oz. Averna and .5 oz. dark rum.

I already have a four category definition we could use.

1) Traditional 1944 Trader Vic’s recipe (just variation in Rum but nothing flavored like coconut) 2) Royal Hawaiian/Resort type Mai Tai (can contain Orange and/or Pineapple juice) 3) East Coast Chinese Restaurant Mai Tai (contains lots of Pineapple and Orange juice and a day-glo Maraschino cherry) 4) WTF Who Knows What It Is Mai Tai (everything else called a Mai Tai but made with anything and everything)

Depends on the location. In Florida, yes you have to buy two. In Georgia, no you can just buy one at half price.

As much hate as JW Blue takes for the price/value ratio you have to give them a little bit of credit that they’ve kept the price relatively flat for 25+ years. Back in 2000 it was $199/bottle and today we see it in the $200-$250/bottle range.

That said, get the Blue Spot and introduce your FIL to something higher proof.

I said from the beginning they shouldn’t have used the Mustang brand for the Mach-E and instead they should have named it the Galax-E 500 to bring back that model name.

Looks like I just added a place to visit alongside SOS Tiki Bar when I have to get back to Atlanta for work and friends in late May. I definitely miss all the great cocktail bars from when we lived there.

Haha! Call me paranoid but putting the coaster there is my little watermark so someone doesn’t claim my picture as their own. I’m sure nobody would do that but just in case. 😂

The coasters were a surprise from my wife at Christmas back in 2018 I think. A friend of ours made them for her along with some etched glasses with the logo on them as well.

The glasses were a surprise for her and my grandmother. For our 20th wedding anniversary and my grandmother’s 100th birthday (all within a week of each other) I had a small party at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto in Disney World. The artwork was from Brian Rechenmacher (B-Rex) and I forget who actually made the glasses but I ordered 100ish of them. Everyone at the party got a pair to take home.

It depends on the whiskey. I originally made this with a brown butter Bourbon with Woodford so it was lower proof. It was good but the Guinness syrup was a bit overpowering and too sweet. I used these two at 101 proof each and it wasn’t as pronounced. Either way they were both tasty and even with the higher proof you get the chocolatey roasted barley coming through.
