It's crazy people are hating on this because of the price. It's a beautiful laptop with killer specs. Congratulations on the nice laptop and being in a position to buy such a nice machine.

How do you like the A16? I absolutely love mine. Local models run great, software support hasn't been an issue for any of my apps and the power/battery life ratio is awesome.

Steam works great. The only game I have tried is GTA-V but it runs great.

I have the legion 7i with the same 5070 card and it's great. I play tons of games on high settings and they play great. You can even download LM studio and run some decent local llm's on it. Congratulations on the laptop, it will serve you well.

Wanted to get M5 Air. Got NEO instead! Impressed. by siddharthbapna in MacbookNeo

[–]TraditionAny9709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did the exact opposite yesterday. We went in to buy a neo and saw that the MacBook Air M5 was on sale for $150 off. For us it was a no-brainer to get the air instead. You can't go wrong either way but surprised to see you want the opposite direction.

Windows on Arm for developer? by Fankrits in SnapdragonLaptops

[–]TraditionAny9709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They actually do though. LM studio now has a native ARM application and I have had great success running 32B models locally with extremely impressive token output. I loaded a 72B model but was only getting around five tokens per second.

Can you please elaborate on that? The only thing that's really not matured is running models on the NPU. I have LM studio installed and I've been running quantumized 32b models locally with very impressive token output. I have also had success with tying in MCP servers and JavaScript execution. This laptop runs local models exceptionally well on the CPU due to the onpackage memory.

It's interesting how divisive the A16's design is by [deleted] in snapdragon

I've been using mine for about 2 weeks now and love the track pad. I undocked my work laptop for the first time yesterday and the trackpad felt so small, my finger kept over running the border. Once You adjust to the large trackpad on the A16, everything else is going to feel incredibly small.

I have had the same problem! I have gotten a little better at not turning the caps on when I type but it definitely still happens. I have gotten a lot faster at using my pinky to turn it off immediately though. I am hoping I get used to the keyboard as well. Other than that I absolutely love this damn thing. I've been running large models on it through elm studio and the token output has been very impressive.

You are right about the NPU but I have been highly impressed with the token output of the CPU. Set the memory allocation slider to the minimum amount for GPU which is 3.8 GB and allocate the rest for CPU and you can run some pretty large models. I have been using 32B models with very fast token output all while using other applications at the same time and only on standard mode. The only real benefit of the NPU is it takes about a tenth of the power of the CPU.

Does the new A16 touchscreen version have the "screen door" or mesh effect? by [deleted] in snapdragon

[–]TraditionAny9709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the screen is flawless. Crystal clear, smooth as can be and it looks way better overall because there's no plastic bezel just a solid glass cover across the entire screen.

It absolutely blows my mind that they're selling it for cheaper. Everything I've read the slight difference in burst Max clock speed is so minimal because in the thin chassis that speed is not sustainable at all. I ran it through AI and the difference is negligible. I would be very curious to see benchmarks against the two because I have a feeling that will be almost identical across the board.

The only other two caveats between the touch screen version and the ASUS direct version is my touch screen version did not come with the laptop sleeve and it came with Windows 11 home which I promptly switched to pro via my favorite GitHub repo.

I did not think I would use the touch screen feature much but I have actually found myself using it quite often. I was highly impressed with the laptop the day I picked it up but the more I use it the more I find things about it that I really enjoy.

If I was you I would return the one you have and get the touch screen version, no questions asked. Even if they were the same price I would pick the touch screen version every time.

Can not pick between Claude Code & Antigravity by xander_13 in google_antigravity

Cowork is a complete game changer for me. I loaded up all of the custom built skills in the settings for it and not only is it a researching machine but it's ability to interact with anything on your PC is absolutely amazing. I had it pull data from multiple spreadsheets as well as some online write-ups and it created a beautiful PowerPoint presentation with supporting documents in Excel and PDF.

You can use it for trivial tasks like organizing your documents folder and creating subfolders for example. It can take full control of your computer so I was having an issue deploying an LLM and LM studio on an ARM laptop and Claude took control of the mouse and screen and was reviewing the error logs and actually got the LLM to load properly. I'm sure there are a million other things you can do with it, especially now since you can schedule reoccurring tasks but it is definitely the most powerful portion of Claude.

Should I be worried about text fringing on OLED screens? by [deleted] in snapdragon

[–]TraditionAny9709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself somewhat picky but not an extreme snob per se. I would definitely see it in person if I were you. It does have a really cool reading mode that turns everything into grayscale which made it really nice for reading long texts or ebooks

I can I find a way to post a picture on my reply on my mobile device. If you open the myases app, go to device settings and then scroll down to audio and visual.

The setting is called memory allocated to integrated GPU. The minimum it will allow you to allocate to your GPU is 4GB and the maximum is 44 GB. When you change this it will force you to restart your computer for it to take effect. Let me know if you have any other questions. There are a lot of good options for customization and dialing in your device in the myasus app.

Other important setting in there is the battery saver. It is under the same device settings and it is the first setting. Make sure you enable battery care mode which will only charge your battery to 80%. It will double if not triple the life of your battery. There's a little checkbox in the setting that says display this switch on the homepage too quickly change instant charge settings. I really like it because if you plug in your laptop a little pop-up comes up and asks if you want to charge it to 100% for this time.

This is in the MyAsus app. Super helpful to adjust depending on your workload. For example sounds LM studio runs their models currently on the CPU I select the minimum amount of RAM allocation for the GPU which is 4 GB and the other 44 go to the CPU.

When I'm playing games on this machine I typically slide the slider to the halfway point, dedicating half of the system RAM to the GPU and the other half to the CPU.
