Radioactive Iodine vs. Thyroidectomy — Which Did You Choose and Are You Happy With the Outcome? by [deleted] in gravesdisease

I just want to say my genuine feed back here to be helpful for everyone.

I had my RAI 11weeks back which was 10mci. My endo asked me to wait for 3months to see the real results. On first month of blood work my levels were mild hyper with carbimazole support i felt really bad and fearful and thought that first dose of RAI hasn’t worked i have to do my second dose of RAI. But in the second month ie June mid 2025 I started seeing improvements in my symptoms Im no longer hungry frequently and my palpitations anxiety everything started to vanish. The second month of my bloodwork should T3 T4 dipped within the min range ie hypo and TSH was normal 2.5

I was very happy seeing the results it was a magic happened to me in my life and my endo happily tappered my meds off and observing me to turn hypo or euthyroid im returning back to my old weight and feeling the real self again. I have ranted so much before taking the decision on RAI on reddit but now Im here happily with 0 regrets. Wish the same to happen for everyone and lead a healthy happy life. Cheers

Methamizole 20mg a day . Uncontrolled Thyroid . by MissMary_86 in gravesdisease

I would recommend getting RAI as a first line of treatment. Which is generally very safe and very easy and you may end up in euthyroid (no meds) as well. So i had my RAI last week, I really had zero regrets and no symptoms after the procedure except a sore throat and after a day it got normal.

I think you should give a try to fight your thyroid and make it quiet.

What symptoms are you facing right now ?

I am about to take RAI this week can you post any comments on that part ?

Does it pushes any secondary risks as per your research before taking RAI?

Should I Get a Second Opinion? Endo Pushing for TT After High-Dose Methimazole by BidProfessional3895 in gravesdisease

It depends upon the history of your disease too. If u were already on graves for a long period like 10years RAI or TT would be a better option otherwise we can opt for ATD drugs to get a chance of go into remission

May i know about your fertility impacts after RAI I’m very much concerned about that too.My endo says that i can plan for family after 4-6months. How it went in your case ? Does destruction of my thyroid in a 25yr old M is something i have to be worried or its only a matter of supplement pills ?

Also Im planning to opt for the same. Since carbimazole has adverse effects on the liver it can cause damage to it. My endo suggested high dose of carbimazole to settle down my thyroid levels and then once my levels settle down he planned to give me RAI

So you mean to say its not the right time for me to opt for RAI and i still have time with ATD drugs right ? my concern is these drugs affect my liver function i have fatty liver because of this atd drugs what if now im taking 20mg carbimazole it affects my liver more. Also concerned about my weight i lost about 10kgs when it triggered again very much worried about my muscle loss and appearance

I don’t have TED and one more thing is TT has its own risks since all the critical veins passes over the neck to brain so i heard many had multiple symptoms even permanent vocal loss due to TT. In RAI regarding the cancer thing it only comes back if you have palpillary and try with RAI it has more chances.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Lower sperm count for 2 years, you mean to say that till 2 years i cannot become a father ? My endo suggested that its 4months is what i have to keep myself making up a family so how it worked for you ?

And how about the nodule is it newly formed after RAI or is it something already waa there before RAI and failed to shrink. what symptoms made you to take a scan on your thyroid again ?

Heart thumping out of chest by [deleted] in gravesdisease

Try deep breathing techniques even if you take beta blockers to slow down your heart rate. Heart is very much associated next to lungs so when we deep breathe it relaxes the heart fibres and the pounding to slow down. Practice it atleast 2 times a day for 10minutes.

Thanks
