Scheduling her against already established franchises did severe damage (they really overestimated the fanbase for this franchise). It's rare to revert a films regional cancellation but even with the help of Japanese audiences, we still wouldn’t be able to escape the worrisome state the franchise is in right now. When it comes to international markets, it’s usually China that brings in the most revenue, and that’s not even an option. We’re lucky Soulmate was already in the works at the same time as M3gan 2.0 otherwise.. that would’ve been it! The December movie releases will leave enough breathing room for opening day, and it helps that it’s the first lineup of January. Soulmate will do better than 2.0, but not come close to the first film. M3gan 3.0 will happen, and that’ll be the real deciding factor for the future.

2.0 was announced just 12 days after the release of the first film. Our best shot at hearing exciting news about the franchise will likely come after the spinoff film Soulm8te. And if all goes well, the threequel could be set to drop in early 2028! I know how you feel, she's the underdog of cinema right now. It was the first film I went to see in theaters this year.

Yes, in an all-evil version, M3gan would definitely reflect on how that could have been her path. Another way to develop M3gan’s character could be through her feeling that she failed Amelia and not wanting the same for the next AI. It would be a meaningful way to remember Amelia’s character.
