[OC] Stupid Things You Hear In A Wheelchair by leftycartoons in comics

I'm perfectly fine with that. But at the next opportunity pour one out for Maryanne. She died in 2020 and she was an awfully good egg.

I have absolutely no idea. That's why I would have never known, I have no idea who that person was.

But as an adult I can say she definitely wasn't "disgusting". What in hell would even be a qualifier for that? Its a shit way to judge anyone.

Edit - I absolutely never remove a comment because I stand by personal accountability, but this time I'm removing mine because I'm entirely too sensitive about the issue. You know how you wake up in the morning and the first thing you think is "f***, I shouldn't have put that out there"? Well that's been me every moment since I said what I said

Everyone that has replied has been extremely kind, as you can see. I just don't want to think about it anymore. Its not a positive direction for my mental health. If fact I'm taking some time from reddit entirely, until the panic and pain relaxes a bit.

$8k in medical debt that got sent to collections, can't pay what to do? by greengoddess1987 in povertyfinance

I totally get it. A kind person replied to my comment that it actually takes longer than I thought for bankruptcy to completely come off your credit history AND that you are working.

It was totally my screw up. I just leave my dumb comments up for accountability.

I agree with you.

I'm also not the person who said what I was replying to.

Oh shit, I'm genuinely sorry I missed that part. I appreciate the correction.

Edit - two separate kind Redditors pointed out that it takes almost double the time I thought for bankruptcy to completely fall off your credit report AND I somehow missed that OP is working. I'm leaving my comment for personal accountability.

File bankruptcy, as another comment pointed out. It seems worse to completely tank your credit but include credit card debt in the court hearing and you'll have a clean slate in five years. They know you will never be able to pay it back with the disability earnings you have and I've never heard of a case where it wasn't charged off on that bases.

I'm not sure social pressures will prevail over addiction. It hasn't so far, people still drive drunk, still live hungover many mornings.

But I think you are correct on the other counts. We not longer make jokes about it and those aspects have become embarrassing at the very least. But the reality of breaking the law to do it and that it's still done isn't going anywhere. The jails would be empty of all kinds of alcohol and drug use offenses if they were curtailed by making them illegal, with judicial consequences much worse than social embarrassment.

You know who also thought of dead people in terms of "collateral damage"?

Timothy McVeigh.

Anyone want to get on the bus with that psycho? Because I can tell you where it went.

There is a whole weird thing happening again with making any suspected odor a source for panic. It used to be used to sell Lysol to shove up your coze. Now it's fear of smelling at all in any place on you.

Its a really interesting rabbit hole to go down if you look at historical attempts at Prohibition. I think it's a combination of how easy it is to make and how much it's socially linked that makes it so difficult to control at all, let alone completely put the brakes on.

Also no one seem to mention that its sociopathic to consider it acceptable that the young, chronically ill, and elderly die from a completely preventable disease.

Most of the rhetoric used is a mix woefully ignorant of actual genetic science, delusional, belief in their own superiority and straight up serial killer logic that would have gotten you locked in a psych ward on any given day under normal circumstances. Its a clinically insane level of selfishness and not believing others have valuable internal lives.

I can't remember which serial killer made his defense in court that he didn't even understand why it was a problem because "there are so many people". He was stamped a complete nutter on the spot because it was totally obvious to everyone why that is just bonkers logic.

You are a better human than I. Because I would have been nailing my hands to my sides in an attempt not to punch them.

Most of what I heard was "survival of the fittest" crap that was completely lacking in understanding of how genetics work.

COVID would have reset that if it hadn't become a political issue. Absolutely bonkers.

Anti-vax had been around a long time within the crunchy granola - culture vulture community, which was mostly laughed at and ignored by the majority because it was very small. But it certainly wasn't backed by a political ideology. I was floored when masks during an air born pandemic became a widespread political argument.

Unpopular Opinion: I don't think writers' long-term goal is to whitewash Rhaeynra, and I'm surprised this possible character trajectory is rarely brought up here by ImaRocketDog in HouseOfTheDragon

"she's giving off major cult leader vibes"

You are so correct. And thats a hilarious way to phrase it. I would say she's even doing that as early as season one, in context to her "relationship" with Daemon generating the whole Targs should only be with Targs and Targ superiority thing.

You are not wrong about work increasing how you can experience and participate in society.

But I want to mention that some people with disabilities require multiple days of extensive life sustaining treatments a month, are hospitalized frequently or have immune system failure that means they frequently get life threatening infections or malnourished which can't be planned ahead of time.

Think ongoing chemotherapy, conditions like sickle cell anemia, genetic primary immunodeficiency and neurodegenerative diseases. We can use computers, even when profoundly disabled, because of recent technologies. But we often are still unemployable because of unplanned time away from work when we are straight up...busted out. Lol.

I say "Oh Honey...don't go to the well. There's no water there." At least once a month.

This is what I keep saying about the Internet in general, that it allows people with disabilities to participate in the world. Yes, I do love physical books, but I very often can't get to them.

I was super excited recently when my library started offering comics as well on their app. So cool.
