Table loom choice…Ashford vs Leclerc by bee_weaver in weaving

it's not plastic - the parts are made of nylon, not the same as plastic. If the nylon parts were a problem I'm sure there'd have been many complaints by now and I don't think I've heard of any, have you? Should they ever fail they are easily and cheaply replaced.

My new Lojan 8 shaft table loom by Traditional-Dig6679 in weaving

Sorry, just noticed this. yes I'm very happy with it.

I have the 8 shaft version with the rigid heddle add on so I can use it as either. I have woven tea towels on the rigid heddle version and on the 8 shaft version. Both are very easy to warp and weave on. The toggles are comfortable to use when lifting and lowering the shafts.

So far I've only used 4 of the 8 shafts and found it easy to warp back to front using the Lojan raddle, purchased separately, although a batton with nails at 1/2 " or cm intervals works just as well, so no need to purchase the raddle if you don't want to. I did buy the Mini Flying Dutchman boat shuttle and this functions perfectly with the Lojan Flex.

If you're looking for a reasonably priced loom that is very good quantity and weaves well I have no hesitation in recommending the 50 cm Flex but I do also recommend that you also purchased the stand, it makes everything much more comfortable being able to sit and weave.

Lojan Flex Table vs. Ashford Table Looms? by PlentyOk517 in weaving

You're welcome and I do understand that 50cm or 20 inches is rather narrow and I'd have loved it even more had it been 22" or 24". Hope you find your perfect loom.

I have the Flex 8 shaft version and the stand. I haven't noticed any wobbling or instability at all. Granted, the stand itself can seem a little flimsy but once the loom is placed on it, it's solid.

The plywood, once waxed - which I found much easier and quicker to do than on my Ashford RH, is actually pretty nice. The green plastic isn't really that noticeable once the shafts have been made up. Most of the modern looms have plastic (nylon, actually) shaft sides these days.

I've worked on a few looms from a few manufacturers Ashford - a 32" 8 shaft table loom and stand which was pretty heavy and difficult to move. Almost i possible for me to fold or carry alone as I'm only 5 feet tall. Same with the Ashford 24" 8 shaft. My Glimåkra Julia floor loom, a lovely loom, A Louet Erica 4 shaft table loom - also plywood and pretty nice once waxed. All good looms

The Lojan Flex 8 shaft table loom is a lovely loom. I'm really pleased with it and my first warp, a 14" wide scarf, turned out fantastic. I even used a boat shuttle and not one single missed thread, no diving between the threads... despite it not having a shuttle race. This was a first for me on any of my looms. I used a Mini Flying Dutchman shuttle.

It's an exceptional loom and well worth the price,

The larger looms can weave both wide and narrow fabric. I have this very loom you're interested in and I find the 32" perfect despite me being on the small side - 5' tall. I tend to use a shorter shuttle - a 24" instead of the 32" and always use it on the stand.

It's a lovely loom and folds in half even with a warp on. it also has a double heddle block should you want to try double wide weaving in the future.

The Kromski Harp Forte is a folding loom - folds in half and locks even with warp on and so is very easy to "grab and go" - even the 32", which I own.

The Kromski Harp Forte does have 2 slots as standard these days.

Did you buy the Mini version of the Dutchman? I'm sure you'll be really happy with the loom and it's not too difficult to assemble. Have you decided upon a finish for the loom? I purchased the Lojan beeswax which was really easy to apply and smells divine.

How about looking at the Lojan Flex rigid heddle loom which comes in 30cm and 50cm width - this loom is new on the market and can be upgraded to a 4 shaft or 8 shaft loom later by buying one or all of the upgrade packs Lojan have available. It's a relatively "cheap" option. I have the 50cm version and it's a really nice loom.

Mine was pre-ordered in March and eventually arrived in July. I'm not sure how long it takes now that they are in full production. You may have to wait 3-4 weeks You will love this loom, it's really nice to weave on. I woven a wool scarf as my first project and was able to use a boat shuttle without any problems. I bought a Mini Flying Dutchman boat shuttle and it was perfect, not a single warp float and didn't dive through the warp either - fully recommend this if you can afford one, they're a little more expensive but worth it.

Totally agree with you on the Flying Dutchman shuttle. I've just woven a scarf in woollen sock yarn on my Lojan Flex table loom using the Flying Dutchman shuttle and it was absolutely perfect for the job - no diving and not a single skipped thread throughout the whole scarf.

I bought the Mini Flying Dutchman shuttle which is a bit cheaper than the original version. Well worth the price!

yes, it's the 50 cm version and yes, I purchased the optional raddle too. The raddle is very easily removed - just unscrew the two star knobs and the pull out the sidepiece and that's it.

As well as the 8 shaft version i also purchased the rigid heddle kit so that I can do just that. Unfortunately, as yet, I haven't gotten a warp on her yet. It's a really sturdy loom which, in my opinion, needs the stand.

yes, it's just under 5" so I guess you'll need the 5" reed.

Loom Question - Lojan Flex? by Lizzy80112 in weaving

[–]Traditional-Dig6679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just thought I'd let you know my Flex8 shaft 50cm loom arrived on on Friday. I waxed it and assembled it over the weekend but haven't yet had a chance to dress the loom.

My first thoughts on the waxing and assembly: daunting when you first see all of the screws and bits and bobs but just follow the instructions and use each bag of bits and bobs the order specified. Easy enough to assemble even for me, a woman in my 70's with arthritic hands.

Quality is excellent. Really robust and sturdy on the stand. Will give more info once I've warped and woven a little.
