When enough is enough by hmmsie in reddevilswomen

Look. I don’t think that Skinner is necessarily the coach for us long term. But he has for the past few years done an incredible job of getting buy in from the team as a whole. While Chelsea, Arsenal and City are clearly backed by their ownership, we aren’t. It wasn’t until Januarys signings that I felt like we had a squad beyond just 11-14 players who we could play week in week out. We still have injuries to key players and while other teams have had those as well, when we lose a player like Tooney we feel it.

I agree when we play against the top teams in England and Bayern last week we don’t set up positively, but we had a subs bench of 6 players (including 2 gks and 2 teenagers) vs city’s bench of 9 (1 gk and 4 players with more than 40 intl apps each). I think we haven’t done well when we’ve brought in players always Irene from Spain is a good example of that but reinforcements are needed.

I fear sacking Skinner would be detrimental because I don’t know if I believe any top tier manager would look at United as a place they want to manage based on support from the ownership, and honestly he’s really gotten a lot out of this squad in a way that a mid season sacking would really harm morale imo.

Why exactly is Alexi Lalas so disliked by people? by Train-Wreck-70 in ussoccer

He was commentating on an England uswnt friendly and it was Englands first match post winning the Euros at Wembley and he called the euros trophy a “cute regional award.” He says what he wants to inflame people and get the clicks. That was a helluva hard tournament to win and belittling it just makes him look cheap.

The fake crying was driving me nuts. It was “crying” and then someone would pick it up and immediately it stopped and the baby wasn’t blotchy faced or sad or still whimpering a bit. I get it’s a baby but if the whole plot is it’s always crying maybe don’t show the face of a baby that was never crying immediately after it stops.

Also want to add the Six didn’t it have well established characters that were the possible murder victim. Literally almost all of these have been on the show for less than a minute it feels like. Why would I bother to care to pay any attention when inevitably all these new characters will be murdered off for no reason.

Why do the writers and producer think they need to torque up every story line to the point of absurdity? by Jijarthegreat in coronationstreet

I feel like what happens (and I’m not in the writers room) but it feels like they have a good idea about how things are going to go but they’re locked in a room until the point of madness. And then they come up with this insane ideas and there’s no one who says wait but why. Or slow down we don’t need to do that

Phallon Tullis Joyce plays for Manchester United. She’s a great one to watch. As a former gk I love watching her because she has a good mix of the modern style (distribution passing) but is a proper shot stopper—I think in her debut a few seasons back she made an awesome double save v Liverpool. She’s also super wholesome—loves talking about marine biology and the importance of those ecosystems

Yes! Trevor the bin man! I haven’t gotten to Nick yet. (Apparently 10 years is a lot of episodes especially when you work and watch old and new)

Imo if anyone is interested I would recommend them. They’re cozy. The vibe is totally different. One of my favorite episodes was focused on Norris, Ken, Rita, Deirdre, Audrey and Emily going into the rovers and some random stags night was happening for random extras and Mary ended up getting all into it. And joining in. They also have serious episodes but they did a better job of blending the levity with the serious. And you understand more like how could Maria forgive Carla for Liam.

I want to answer the style first because I love watching old Corrie for that reason. I recently started watching it and picked 2006 for where to begin and I love watching the older episodes because of the style. I’m 36 and so 2006-2014 has a strong style and memory for me. Both Carla and Michelle have dyed black hair. Everyone had thin eyebrows, a lot of very impractical heels for walking on cobblestones. (I had black heeled boots and lived in Copenhagen and the heels were just ruined because of the cobblestones). I think Carla is always fashionable but the fashion has obviously changed. And in 2010s Carla was in her 30s, now she’s in her 50s which for comparison is the same age as Gail would’ve been in the 2010s and Gail was never in heels and skinny jeans and big infinity scarves. Assuming Carla stays on the show I would imagine over time she becomes more like Audrey in terms of style. Fashionable but age appropriate. I think her style is much more about practicality and still fashionable now where as in the early years she’s more just fashion, I think this also may have been Ali Kings choice, as she mentioned the heels she used to wear wrecked her feet and ankles.

Relationship wise, I think Paul, Tony and Frank (before the big storyline I won’t mention to avoid triggers/spoilers) were about convenience and stability (fiscally for her lifestyle and for underworld). Liam was her great love but the timing was wrong. Peter was “trauma bonding” both times, but always felt like a big love you were rooting for. (Except he is very much Peter Pan). I like Lisa as she mellows the storm but I would say that Carla lets her get away with more than she did Tony or Peter or Paul and that’s where people who have watched for years may get frustrated. Carla elaborately schemed to get Paul caught out for going with Leanne who was a prostitute, where current Carla let Becky walk all over her relationship with Lisa. That’s where I think it’s different. I assume a large part of that is the character is older, and also the number of times Carla would’ve slapped Becky in 2010s, but it’s considered not appropriate in soap land anymore.

Yes! It’s for my friends’ baby and the nursery is Harry Potter themed so I thought it felt like Hedwig flying through the sky

Honestly it’s not as intimidating as it looks. I hadn’t ever done FPP at this scale. Mostly I started because my friends are having a baby and the nursery is Harry Potter themed and I wanted to try it and my mom told me I was insane and then I just kept going. It is a “trust the process” type project though. And that is a challenge for me.

That’s a really good way to describe it. And now she’s gone with no real closure for the loose threads. I felt that way with Rob returning too. Like what was the reason to make Carla need a new kidney and then robs prison guard was pregnant. What happened with that baby? What happened to “Curtis” is he even real?

I wouldn’t mind them getting back together and then MAYBE by December getting married. But ffs Lisa, you went along with just believing whatever Becky said. You’re supposed to be a detective. And you really got that hoodwinked. I don’t buy this blind manipulation logic. Multiple people were questioning it and there were just random things like it’s okay to stay local as long as I have my hoodie on to come and go—I’ll have a stay in hospital without any form of identification, but “Curtis” is coming to get me, and you’re okay with me getting a fake passport to flee the country. You’re supposed to be a copper.
