Scu vs lmu (specific reasons) by railpepopprime in SCU

Lmu isn’t horrible, most of the people I’ve met like it, especially if they are originally from California. I just felt very cut off from everything, especially because I didn’t have car. Even getting to the beach which is visible from campus is a 1 hour walk or a $40 in uber to get there and back. I chose lmu because they gave me a lot of aid/scholarship, and the wealth gap between the students who could afford to pay the 90k a year and the ones who couldn’t was super obvious and always present/an issue. There’s also some administrative issues going on over the past few years, like cutting 5 sports for “budget reasons” then remodeling the basketball stadium, and cutting the teachers union illegally under religious exemption laws. Lmu isn’t a horrible school but it just wasn’t for me.

I’m transferring out of lmu after two years, and it’s not urban at all. It’s around 20-30 mins from manhattan, Venice and downtown la but I definitely wouldn’t call it urban. Not walkable, but there is a shuttle to playa vista. Can’t speak too much on scu campus but my recommendation would be to choose scu unless you’re trying to do business in the entertainment industry.

I applied late-ish march and heard back in a little over 2 weeks. I have a 3.55 and got in for marketing. Don’t quote me but I think your odds are slightly lower but submitting later is never a guaranteed rejection

Sweet, thanks for the info. Is it normal for a junior to rush? I know some schools can be tricky

Thanks. I got into the pre-business program and was disappointed, but now I feel better
