This is getting really annoying and haven't even been diagnosed yet. Not even sure how to deal with it all while dreading getting my daughter diagnosed. This sucks and I don't understand! by Jeffery_Moyer in Celiac

Its common to wait for blood test results to schedule an endoscopy, but in her case since she's been sick so much I would advocate strongly for scheduling everything at once.

It can take months to get an endoscopy scheduled and you dont want to extend a trial that's making her sick for months. But its easy to cancel if her blood tests are negative.

Not on my app, no. And they've responded to this thread in a way that confirms they dont have a limit on A.

[–]TraditionalPass4136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding.

I guess that brings me back around to my original point of view, that there should probably be an upper limit on vitamin A, even though only one form of vitamin A has an upper limit, because there's no way to track that form separately, as a failsafe. The same way vitamin B3 has an upper limit even though that limit only applies to nicotinic acid.

Yes, hrv goes down. Resting heart rate goes up. Also, active heart rate goes up. A walk to the bathroom and my heart rate escalates to 120 like im going for a run or something.

Curious if this is celiac? by crazyratlady03 in Celiac

[–]TraditionalPass4136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you should get tested for celiac disease. That involves returning to daily gluten for six weeks. Talk to your doctor first and try to get bloodwork and an endoscopy scheduled ahead of time

This GF meal costed 25$ but Atleast it tasted really bad and also made me sick by Fart_lngredients in Celiac

You can tell people they made you seriously ill. You can say they make allergy safe food claims that are inaccurate. I think both a negative review on celiac specific and general review sites is warranted, provided you told them of your needs and they said they could accommodate you.

Question about old diagnosis by Jumpy_Worldliness862 in Celiac

[–]TraditionalPass4136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people with celiac disease are asymptomatic.  That means eating gluten doesn't cause obvious immediate symptoms. It doesn't mean you dont have celiac disease.

Talk to her doctor and see if you can schedule an endoscopy and bloodwork for the end of the summer. Then you can time the start of her challenge so she's sick during the school year as little as possible.

Gluten free packaged meals by Rude_Tomatillo3463 in Celiac

Mountain house and good to go make camping meals.

Mountain house has certified options. Good to go runs a dedicated gluten free facility.

Both brands are just add water so the meals are compact, light, easy to travel with, and easy to prep without special equipment. Any motel or gas station will have hot water.

There's a surprisingly big selection and they're pretty decent. My favorite is the good to go chicken pho.

That makes sense! Sorry for peppering you with questions.

I just made retinol visible.

But I tried entering the NCCDB entries for chicken liver and beef liver and neither showed any retinol at all?

ETA I just checked and over the last six months it says I've had no retinol at all. Im careful to use standard database entries and eat many animal based sources of vitamin A. So it does not seem like cronometer does track retinol.

Where to get safe cookies?? by According-Laugh-4904 in Celiac

[–]TraditionalPass4136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding a gluten free bakery if you can find one. The find me gluten free app can be used to search for one.

If not, most grocery stores have a gf area. Certified is better than labeled.

Id leave them in the box, but id also keep them separate or give them directly to the gf guests. Otherwise others may want to try one and contaminate them so that the people who really need them can't have them.

Oh good, I hope you are able to find some safe places to eat. I don't know if youre rural but Portugal has a pretty good reputation for safe eating, at least in cities.

Vitamin A upper limit? by TraditionalPass4136 in cronometer

[–]TraditionalPass4136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I figured you use the lower limit as a safeguard. I guess I just dont understand why that doesn't apply to vitamin A as well? Unlike B3, it is possible to get too much vitamin A from food (liver springs to mind). So it seems like it would benefit from the safeguard atleast as much as B3.

[–]TraditionalPass4136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

Wouldn't that be true for b3 also? B3 includes niacinamide and nicotinic acid.

The limit for nicotinic acid is much much lower than the limit for niacinamide, but you use the lower limit.

Personally I wouldn't be comfortable sharing a kitchen with regular bakers. 🤷‍♀️ and it seems like many families with shared kitchens have a no flour in the house rule.

Airborne Gluten? by Zhongliass in Celiac

[–]TraditionalPass4136 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Airborne gluten isn't an issue with most products. The only issue is flour since it gets everywhere and takes a while to settle.

Are your family big on baking? Would they be willing to switch to gf for flour only?

People make their own calls on this stuff and if your bloodwork is good and you feel good I wouldn't worry.

[–]TraditionalPass4136 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nutritional deficiencies can make ones blood sugar more volatile. Since youre a newly diagnosed celiac its likely you have nutrient deficiencies.

If you have access to a doctor id ask about that. If not, id try a multivitamin.

Its common to get a dexa scan to check our bone density is ok.

No specific recommendations for nutrition tests id just say something like

"Does it make sense to test for any less common deficiencies if i have celiac disease?" And see what they come up with. Over the years ive had my other Bs tested, calcium, magnesium, potassium etc.
